These awards are presented to students graduating from the College of Continuing
Education. One award is presented to the outstanding associate, baccalaureate and
master’s degree students. Those recognized have maintained a minimum cumulative
GPA of 3.25, and have displayed active participation in the learning process and
persistence in achieving their academic goals.

Service to the Institute Awards
Philip A. Brooks Unsung Hero Award
The Unsung Hero Award is presented to a student in good standing who exhibits
commitment to Wentworth through consistent involvement within the campus
community. Named in honor of Philip A. Brooks, whose dedication and
commitment to Wentworth serves as an example of selfless contribution to the
Institute, the recipient of this award, who may or may not hold a leadership position
on campus, exceeds all expectations, consistently volunteers their time for
Wentworth events and projects, and serves as a role model for all students.

Wentworth Bowl
The Wentworth Bowl is presented annually to a graduating senior in excellent
academic standing in honor of their consistent involvement and contributions to the
Wentworth community. This award is the highest honor a student may receive in
recognition of outstanding, overall participation in Wentworth activities.

Community Scholarships are awarded each fall to junior and senior students who have
made significant contributions to the Wentworth community through involvement in
clubs, organizations, athletics, leadership positions, or service to the greater
community while maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0. A selection committee reviews
application materials carefully and selects those students who have demonstrated the
highest levels of involvement in the Wentworth community.

Civic Engagement Award
The Civic Engagement Award is presented to a student or group of students in good
standing who have contributed greatly to the community through a particular service
project or community organization. Criteria for selection are based upon nominations
from members of Wentworth and the community. Selected by the Faculty Service
Learning Committee.

Accelerate Graduates
The Accelerate Wentworth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center was formed in
May 2012 with the idea to bring innovation + entrepreneurship skills to our students.
These Accelerate graduates iterated an idea, tried one out, saw the bigger picture,
solved problems, networked intentionally, and built confidence in taking risks for
small projects and big ideas.

Service to the Institute Awards
The Advocate for Multiculturalism Award is presented to a student who has
consistently supported the development of a diverse and inclusive community at
Wentworth. The student has been involved in diversity and multicultural
programming and has been a strong advocate for underrepresented populations.
This student has impacted diversity efforts on Wentworth’s campus, and will likely
continue this role in any community in the future.

good standing who is employed through the Financial Aid Office in a work-study or
student employment position, and exhibits commitment and interest in their

Edward T. Kirkpatrick Cooperative Education Awards
Named in honor of Edward T. Kirkpatrick, former President of Wentworth Institute of
Technology from 1971-1990 whose contributions include the introduction and
integration of cooperative education to Wentworth’s curriculum, the Cooperative
Education Awards are presented to senior co-op students who receive outstanding
employer evaluations, show motivation and professionalism both in the job search
and on the job, and who have an enthusiastic and positive attitude toward the total
co-op experience.

Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Student Merit Award
The IDSA conducts the Student Merit Award portfolio competition at each
accredited design program. Seniors present their work to local industry professionals
for evaluation. The design professionals choose a winner to represent the Wentworth
Industrial Program at the annual Northeast Regional Conference. The Student Merit
Award is a high honor for graduating seniors aspiring to enter the profession of
industrial design with an edge on the competition.

The Student Organization of the Year Award is presented to an outstanding student
organization which best exhibits student involvement in organization activities,
commitment to student life at Wentworth, represents Wentworth in a positive

Outstanding Leadership Awards
Each Outstanding Leadership Award is presented to a student who has shown
leadership and dedication to their co-curricular involvement. The First Year
Leadership Award is presented to a new student who has already shown significant
contributions to their organization and will likely leave a lasting impression on
Wentworth's community. The Sophomore Leadership award is presented to a
student who serves as a strong role model for their classmates and displays potential
for success in future leadership roles. The Junior Leadership Award recipient is a
student who regularly demonstrates enthusiasm toward and passion for their role on
campus and displays potential for success in future leadership roles.
Eta Kappa Nu is the international honor society of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers). The society’s designated fields of interest include but are not
limited to Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Computer Science. Eta
Kappa Nu members are distinguished by superior scholarship, attitude, and character.

Chi Alpha Sigma Recognition of New Members
Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college student athletes who earn a varsity letter in at
least one sport while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA throughout their
junior and senior years. Chi Alpha Sigma‘s purpose is to encourage and reward high
academic scholarship of college athletes at accredited colleges and universities and

These students exemplify dedication to leadership at Wentworth through completing
the Division of Student Affairs three phase leadership program, the “Wentworth
Leadership Institute”. These Wentworth Leadership Institute graduates have
completed 8 weeks of fundamental leadership skills in the Phase of the institute, 4
weeks of perspective challenging discussions in the Phase II seminar, and have
successfully completed a year-long Phase III project showcased in the annual
Wentworth Expo.

The Paragon Award is presented to a graduating senior who has continually

Founded in 1949, Sigma Lambda Chi is an international organization, consisting of 47
chapters worldwide, dedicated to recognizing the outstanding academic

standards of students enrolled in construction curricula. Students are invited to join
Sigma Lambda Chi by the current membership and are eligible after they have
