In Celebrating Our Past,
CCES
Christ Church Episcopal School
Office of the Headmaster
Dr. Leonard R. Kupersmith
Dear Friends:
Every new year is a chance for renewal. The closest resemblance to
the hopes and ambitions that a new school year generates is a new sports season: the possibilities
are limitless. I greet the new school year and the start of each new athletic season with the same
keen anticipation of growth and achievement.
Eighty percent of our students in grades 7-12 participate in at least one interscholastic SCSHL
sport. Each sports experience enhances character and self-assurance, a spirit of sacrifice and
collaboration, poise and resilience, fairness and mutual respect. Furthermore, the sports programs
build a strong community. Members of the entire school community come together to cheer for the
Cavaliers. Plus, former parents and alumni reconnect with the school through sporting events and
support of teams.
Our athletics programs complement our arts and academic programs. They stress our core values
and cultivate the same qualities of self-discipline, high expectations, hard work, and respect for
others. Each of these areas enriches the qualities that students rely on to make the most of all of
their opportunities at CCES.
This year the Booster Club and CCES are partnering to launch a Leadership Council for team
leaders to develop key attributes of leadership. Dr. Milt Lowder will lead this effort. Alongside
that program, he and his associates will work with head coaches and athletics administrators to
address challenges that they face and strengthen their instructional and leadership arsenal. Milt
will customize these programs using models that he has found effective in his work with Clemson
athletics programs. We believe that this initiative will serve as a model for future efforts in other
areas of school life and in itself make a positive impact well beyond athletics.
I encourage you to join the Booster Club, support our sports programs, and attend games and
competitions to show your support for our students and coaches.
Yours very truly,
Leonard Kupersmith
Dear Cavalier Fans,
CCES Athletics welcomes everyone to another exciting year of Cavalier Athletics. Our student-athletes and coaches are
looking forward to continuing the tradition of excellence in the classroom and playing fields. The same focus, discipline,
and commitment that our student-athletes strive for in the classroom carry over to the playing fields.
The CCES Athletic Program excelled last year in all sports. Our Boys Golf Team won their 4th consecutive State
Championship(16th overall), Girls Basketball won their 2nd consecutive State Championship(4th since 2009), and Girls
Track captured a State Championship also. Girls Soccer, Girls Tennis, and Boys Tennis each finished the season as State
runner up. Congratulations to all of our athletic teams for not only the success on the field, but for the way CCES was
represented by these athletes.
The CCES Athletic Programs are looking forward to the year as we move up to 2A. The South Carolina High School
League restructured the organization of schools for the upcoming 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 years. Moving from
4 classifications to 5, CCES will compete at the 2A level with our region during this period to include: Blacksburg,
Chesnee, Greer Middle College, Landrum, and St. Joseph’s.
The Athletic Department recognizes the importance of the support of the Booster Club and parent volunteers. This
support allows our coaches to focus on preparing our teams to be competitive at a high level. Please consider joining
our Booster Club and helping to support our teams.
This year, the Athletic Department and the Booster Club will be partnering to provide a Leadership Council for our
coaches and student-athletes. We are fortunate to have Dr. Milt Lowder and his team leading this initiative. The focus
of this program will be to help develop leadership skills among coaches and athletes, with the program potentially
extending into other areas of school life.
The CCES Athletic Department would like to thank the CCES community for its support of all our athletic programs.
CHRIST CHURCH EPISCOPAL SCHOOL
BOOSTER CLUB
Dear Cavalier Fans,
When I walk the grounds at CCES I am amazed. My perspective of walking off the field, court, and
diamond as a CCES senior in 1980 and seeing where we are today, as a parent, is truly amazing. It has
not been by accident, rather thoughtful planning and tireless dedication to the pursuit of excellence by
many. Booster club members have always been leaders at CCES. Athletics were, are, and will continue
to be a venue for learning life lessons in addition to playing the game. We can easily see the tangible
signs of our booster club in action over the past 10 years. Scoreboards, lights, track, tennis courts,
training rooms, equipment, scoreboards, and trophy corridors quickly come to mind. The Booster Club
has been proud to partner with the entire cavalier community to make our school a better place.
This will be a historic year for CCES Athletics as we transition to 2A for the 1st time in school history.
New conferences, new rivals, and different facility challenges will define our new path. What makes us
uniquely prepared for this transition is our history and culture of an entire CCES community providing
student athletes with the resources for sustained achievement in sports, classrooms, and life. While our
tangible facilities showcase our abilities it is the intangible…… the people that truly set us apart. Our
coaches, teachers, administrators, and entire athletic staff define our culture. We are truly blessed.
While the Booster Club has many tangible facility upgrades on the horizon, this year we will fund and
develop the “Cavalier Leadership Institute.” An investment in people! Approximately 80% of US
students participate in a sport. Our Institute will focus on developing leadership, mental toughness,
unity, and teamwork. This may be the most exciting and rewarding project done with long lasting
impact. We will partner with Dr. Milt Lowder who has helped build similar programs on the college level.
It should positively impact athletics, the school, and most importantly is designed to impact lives.
Thank you to all of the businesses, individuals, parents, friends, and alumni. Your support allows us
the resources for continued excellence for our student athletes. A special thanks to those serving the
booster club board who are tireless workers and leaders that make a difference. To our student
athletes: WIN OR LOSE……. WE LOVE TO WATCH YOU PLAY! We appreciate the desire, passion,
teamwork, and effort in all you do. These are the attributes that will carry you in life.
We look forward to another great year and thank you for your support. See you at the game!
