Rajiv Kaul President, Leela Hotels The most recent honourable guest to do so was His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who was the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, and stayed at the prestigious property. “We have been privileged to welcome literally the who’s who from the Arab GCC nations at the Leela Palace in New Delhi,” says Mr Kaul. “When any of the top leaders from the UAE travel to Delhi, we have had the privilege of hosting them.” The affection for the Leela brand has now resulted in the premier group being involved in plans to set up hotels in the Gulf region. “We have been in active discussions in the UAE and Qatar and we expect to ink at least two contracts this year in the region,” he asserts proudly. The hotels should be ready in about two years. In the UAE, the Leela group is looking at opportunities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, where it plans a corporate resort. But in all these ventures, the Leela group would be running the properties on a management contract. The company is also looking at managing resorts in the 47
