The importance of adult
vaccines
Vaccines are recommended
for all adults by the
federal Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention in
order to prevent the spread
of disease. This is especially
true for adults with
chronic health issues, who
Help your customers
are more likely to develop
complications from a vaccine-preventable
disease.
It is important for residents
to protect themselves
against serious and deadly
diseases and to maintain
that protection as they get
older. Vaccines that an individual
receives as a child
are not enough; vaccine protection
can eventually wear
off. Also, the virus or bacteria
that the vaccine protects
against can change, leaving
one’s resistance weaker.
A person’s age, job, hobbies,
travel or chronic health
conditions can affect their
risk for vaccine-preventable
diseases; however, the CDC
recommends that all adults
get the following vaccines
unless a healthcare professional
determines an individual
cannot safely receive the
as well as avoid missing
work or paying expensive
medical bills. Those
Tdap vaccine for new
grandparents available
at Orland Township
Submitted by Orland
Township
Grandparents and those
who will be around a new
baby can receive a Tdap
(tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis/whooping
cough) shot
at Orland Township for a
discounted price of $55 ($60
for non-residents).
Proof of residency is required.
Call (708) 403-4222
for an appointment.
The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention recommends
receiving the shot
two weeks before visiting
with a new baby. Whooping
cough is extremely dangerous
to babies under 6
months old, and most catch
the disease from adults like a
grandparent or close family
member.
