Welcome to our May 2017 Issue.
Firstly – Huge congratulations, see below, to David Perry from Shaftesbury Wines for
taking over the chains of office as the new Chairman of Shaftesbury Chamber and a big
thanks to Clive Carter of Thatchwise for all the hard work he has put in over the last 4
years. Gillingham Chamber have their AGM on 25 May at the Town Hall (please check
details with Gillingham Chamber (gccisecretary@outlook.com) before turning up.)
Part of the sponsorship benefit for the current Gillingham Chamber Directory was
showcasing the company in Gillingham & Shaftesbury Guide. As a member and sponsor, this month it is our turn. The
Guide is not a conventional business but a community project set up to help businesses. I am Gillingham & Shaftesbury
Guide and I have tried to give you a very quick overview (pg14). There is never the space to thank all the outside helpers
and contributers without whom this would never get through your doors. I wonder how much you didn’t know about our
monthly publication?
Sclerodema is not a disease I had heard of before but read the story of Sarah Lloyd (pg 8) who suffers from it. Two close
friends Sue Browning and Adrian Geal are determined to raise money for more research into this debilitating and often

you would like to help them.
Tax Returns do you know if you should complete one? Read Rose Duly’s informative article (pg 26/28).
We have lots of ‘what’s ons’ this month. It looks like we are building up to a very busy summer. If you want your
charitable or community event in the magazine for free please get it to us by the copy date below.

End of an Era for Shaftesbury Chamber
After an unprecedented four consecutive
years as chair of Shaftesbury and District
Chamber of Commerce Clive Carter
stepped down at the AGM on Thursday
13 th April.
The 62 year old chain of office was
passed on to David Perry of Shaftesbury
Wines who has been acting Vice
Chairman for the last couple of years.
Chamber president Tony Morgan,
founder of Wessex Group, presided over
the meeting which unanimously praised
Clive’s contribution noting that the
Chamber is now stronger than ever.
As incoming chair David’s first act was to propose that Clive became an honorary
member. This was carried unanimously. David commented, “Clive will remain a most
valuable member of the executive team but making him an honorary member means he
can never leave!”
