Artist In The Spotlight C ynthia Cabrera is an interior designer born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Very early in life she showed a keen interest in art: drawing, painting, and music. Growing up without some of the comforts we in Canada are so accustomed to, she developed an interest in how space has an effect on human interaction and development. She describes interior design as much more than fashion and esthetics. “Good interior design is about function; how can you make everyday life easier, so you can concentrate on the things that really matter in life?” Asked if she saw God in her work, Cynthia replied, “He first decided to reveal Himself as the Creator; He is the one and ultimate Designer. All creativity and problem-solving skills come from Him.” After graduating, Cynthia began her interior design career in Mexico. She moved to Canada six years ago, where she now lives with her husband Moises and son Aaron, and continues to work in her field. Cynthia’s creativity can be seen here at FAC many weekends; she recently joined a team of volunteers who design and create the look of our sanctuary stage for weekend services. • Cynthia graduated from the University of Guadalajara with a Bachelor of Interior Design. A lot of people wanted her to choose a different career path that would be more profitable in Mexico. “I prayed and asked God for guidance,” recalls Cynthia. “I know now He guided my decision. I had no idea at the time what He had in store for me. Being able to live off of creativity is a blessing.” God has given Cynthia a passion for art and design, which you can see pour out of her whenever she speaks about it. “The ultimate Artist reveals Himself throughout creation, and we are the pinnacle of it – we are His Mona Lisa" she says. “We are creative because we are made in the likeness of Him.” 24
