gardening. During the summer, her front yard comes
alive with soft clusters of John Cabot climbing roses, the
deep fuschia of Winnipeg Parks, and bright orangey red
of Morden Fireglow bushes. When I visited, these had
been pruned back to within three feet of the ground, not
yet even budding out, but just biding their time before
new life breaks forth.
Her Syrian family will benefit not only from the overflow
of her backyard apple trees, but from the various
vegetables she plans to put in this year. Already, sweet
peppers were poking up through the soil in small pots.
In a few weeks they will be ready for transplanting to the
garden.
Sheila says it’s very much like how God has worked in
her own life. He prepared the soil by allowing her to get
a good education, but at the same time planting seeds of
service. He opened doors to a successful career working
with people, gaining valuable relationship skills. Then He
pruned back her career, slowed her down, and shifted
her focus. “I’m like a new garden,” Sheila exclaims, ‘’tilled
and ready for God to plant new seeds into my life!”•
