Fangon is a cross of Cymbidium Sunday Romance
with Cymbidium parishii [New Horizons
2013]. Cymbidium Boon Bryson is
a cross of Cymbidium Gladys Whitsell with
Cymbidium Gordon Gibbs [New Horizons
2009]. And Cymbidium Shinning Parish is
a cross of Cymbidium Kusuda Shining with
Cymbidium parishii [New Horizons 2011].
I also think that some interesting
parishii/sanderae hybrids are currently
being made with modern hybrids. Case in
point, George Hatfield is making crosses
such as Cymbidium parishii ‘Mem. Emma
Menninger’ x Cymbidium James Toya
and Cymbidium parishii ‘Mem. Emma
Menninger’ x Cymbidium Aunty Violet.
I have made several crosses with
Cymbidium parishii “Mem Emma
Menninger” 4N as a parent. One is a cross
with Cymbidium Valley Zenith ‘Glen Avon’.
I hope to get a much improved Cymbidium
Western Movie. The spike should be taller,
the flowers an apple green color, and the
flower count should 10 to 12. Another of
my crosses is Cymbidium parishii/sanderae
with Cymbidium Helen Tangcay. This will
have long spikes of 12 to 15 flowers in a
light to medium pink color.
So what does the future have in store
for us? Luckily, new plants of Cymbidium
parishii/sanderae are being found in Viet
Nam and Cambodia. And with the opening
of tourist trade in Myanmar [Burma]
we might see plants from the original
collection area where Rev. Parish found his
plants all those years ago.
