I
am excited to report that our 2017
CSA Congress planning is well
underway, with the CSA Board of
Directors working hard on all the details.
As you might remember, Lucia Brandt
retired from this position last summer and
it has taken an entire Board to fill her
shoes. After many meetings, trips to Santa
Barbara and Pasadena, a myriad of phone
calls and many emails, things are getting
confirmed and finalized. March 17-19
promises to be an amazing weekend as the
CSA collaborates with the Santa Barbara
International Orchid Show to showcase
the orchid world. We will be sending out
registration packets and specifics very soon
so start making plans to attend right now!
The 2017 CSA Congress will include a
similar format to the one used in past years.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and admission to
the Santa Barbara International Orchid
Show will be included in your March 18th
registration. Each of you will receive a
packet of Congress specifics and chance
to bid on one of a kind orchids and orchid
related memorabilia at our annual auction.
Breaking news: Carol Helen Brule is
hard at work creating a ceramic something
special for the big event! Start saving your
pennies (OK - dollars).
And now for the news you have all been
waiting for. Our speakers, as of this printing,
include: Randall Robinson, Geoff Bailey,
Tim Culbertson and Kobsukh Kaenratana
with a fifth spot to be announced. Please
take a careful look at the specifics of their
presentations elsewhere in this Journal.
This talented line up will also be a part of
a day that will honor both Tony Velardi
and Ernest Hetherington, true icons in the
orchid world. Please use the opportunity
of attending the CSA Congress to help us
and their families honor these two giants in
our community.
We have all worked diligently on this
Congress and have listened hard to all your
suggestions and ideas. We are very excited
to be a part of this ground breaking day
and are eager to share the expertise of our
speakers. Of course, the success of a day is
also dependent on YOU. Over the years, I
have heard many reasons for not attending
the Congress: too far to travel, not enough
Cymbidium speakers, not enough Paph
speakers, etc., etc. Where else can you see/
hear such a wide variety of thoughts and
new ideas, honor two of our true heroes,
and be surrounded by the orchid world’s
leaders? Apathy is not an option here. This
is YOUR CSA and YOUR CONGRESS.
So no excuses — be there!
