`Abdull\h said that it was not proper to tell lies ei<strong>the</strong>r<br />

in seriousness or in humour. Nei<strong>the</strong>r was it proper to make<br />

promises to one's children and <strong>the</strong>n not fulfil <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

There are four characteristics which toge<strong>the</strong>r make a person<br />

a complete hypocrite, while any one who possesses a trait<br />

among <strong>the</strong>m possesses a trait <strong>of</strong> hypocrisy until he abandons it.<br />

They are: to betray a trust when entrusted;<br />

to lie when speaking; to break promises after making <strong>the</strong>m;<br />

and to use foul language when in an argument with o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

When three men travel toge<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong>y should<br />

make one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong>ir leader.<br />

Do not quarrel with your bro<strong>the</strong>r (any Muslim).<br />

Do not ridicule him. You should refrain from making<br />

a promise and <strong>the</strong>n going back on it.<br />
