Performance of new QuickGrind
miraGe Tools is no delusion
It’s considered a rarity to find a series of end
mills capable of generating extremely high
performance whilst offering the ability to
machine a vast array of materials, until now.
Quickgrind have launched its new Mirage
Series of solid carbide end mills that
outperform competitor products on stainless
steel, super alloys and a selection of nonferrous,
high temperature alloys and cast
iron.
new Xiros Guide rollers
For guide and conveyor rollers, igus has
developed a fully FDA-compliant design.
The fully assembled guide roller system
comprises a blue PVC tube and two flanged
ball bearings made of xirodur B180 with
stainless steel balls.
“All components used in these guide
rollers are FDA-compliant,” says Robert
Dumayne, dry-tech director, igus.
“Compared to stainless steel tubes, the foodgrade
plastic tube weighs only about one
third as much – this significantly reduces the
amount of drive energy required. Also the
self-lubricating xiros ball bearings offer less
friction than sealed lubricated ball bearings
made of metal, and the balls do not have to
overcome the resistance of the lubricant.
Here, they have the advantage that they start
The new edition of the Industrial
Tooling Corporation (ITC) product
catalogue now has a section dedicated
to trochoidal milling; such is the
industry attention to this machining
strategy. Leading the new section of
the 2017 product catalogue is the
enhanced range of the 5021 Series of
solid carbide end mills.
The new section of the ITC
catalogue is packed with innovative
new developments for trochoidal
milling and the enhanced 5021 Series
is at the forefront of this technology.
The 5-flute solid carbide end mill has
proven time and again to improve
tool life and productivity through its
ability to increase machining speeds
and feeds. Previously available as
square-end geometry, the Tamworth
cutting tool manufacturer has now
introduced a complete range of corner
radii for the Cupro Coated end mills.
Currently available as a squareend
option in diameters from 3 to
25mm, the new corner radius
additions to the 5021 Series include a
As well as offering blistering performance
on a variety of materials, the new Quickgrind
Mirage Series has an ingenious geometry that
allows end users to apply the Mirage to
much more easily than ball bearings made of
metal.”
The system is offered in two installation
sizes with outer diameters of 50 and 63mm.
The light weight rollers are available from
stock in lengths of 100 to 1000mm.
corner radius of 0.25 and 0.5mm on the
smallest 3, 4 and 5mm diameter tools
whilst the 6mm diameter cutter also
offers a 0.75 and 1mm radius. The
larger tools that include the 8, 10, 12, 16
and 20mm diameters all include the
0.25mm increment corner radii up to
1.25mm with radii above 1.5mm
stepping up in 0.5mm increments. This
gives the 20mm cutter a huge range of
radius options with 10 standard
variants available from the catalogue.
Of course, as a UK manufacturer ITC
can process the corner radii on the 5021
Series to meet the needs of the end
user.
For further information on how to
improve your machining performance,
reduce your tooling consumption and
costs and also reduce the stress on the
spindle of your machine tools, please
roughing, finishing, slotting and profiling as
well as trochiodal milling and strategic HSM
processes. This extensive capability reduces
tool inventory and costs. The cost benefits
can be extended with Quickgrind’s remanufacture
service that re-coats and regrinds
tools to as-new condition.
The Mirage Series enables customers to
increase speed and feed rates to improve
material removal rates beyond existing
parameters whilst also suppressing vibration
and extending tool life. All this is credit to a
tool composition that consists of a force
resistant sub-micro grain carbide that is
layered with Quickgrind’s unique X-Red
coating technology. Whilst the extremely
tough and durable carbide composition
forms the foundation for the extended tool
life and performance of the Mirage, it’s the
variable flute design and the centre cutting
geometry that delivers the astounding
material removal characteristics and the
flexibility to conduct a multitude of
processes.
micro end mills
for mirror-finish
machininG
Horn has expanded its milling cutter range
for ultra-precision machining with the
addition of new micro end mills with
monocrystalline diamond (MCD) inserts.
The extremely sharp,
flawlessly polished cutting
edges can produce a surface
quality of Rz 0.02 mm.
MCD tools are ideal for
finishing of aluminium
alloys, non-ferrous metals
and precious metals such as
gold and platinum. They are
also used for mirror-finish
machining of plastics such
as polycarbonates and
PMMA.
When using MCD
micro end mills to carry
out ultra-precision
machining of tools and
moulds, there is no
need to polish the
components by hand
afterwards. The singleedged
tools are available
as ball nose milling
cutters from 0.1 mm to 3
mm in diameter.
