asked the students questions that caused them to think honestly about choices to be made and emphasized the lasting trauma that can<br />

occur from not wearing seat belts or from distracted/impaired driving.<br />

ST. JOHN XXIII COLLEGE PREPARATORY ANNOUNCES VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN FOR <strong>2017</strong><br />

St. John XXIII College Preparatory named the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for <strong>2017</strong>. Valedictorian is Benjamin James Rehfeld and<br />

Salutatorian is Madison Ann Deane.<br />

SJ23 VALEDICTORIAN <strong>2017</strong><br />

Benjamin J. Rehfeld will be attending the University of Texas in Austin in the fall, planning to major in computer science. During his time<br />

at St. John XXIII College Preparatory, Benjamin was a 3-year captain of the varsity swim team and member of the golf team, was active<br />

in many student organizations such as Student Senate, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society and National Science Honor Society and<br />

served as a House Captain, Link Crew Leader and Lion Ambassador. He has worked in various charitable endeavors such as volunteering<br />

at the iCan Bike Camp the last two years, visiting with residents of the Cinco Ranch Alzheimer’s Special Care Center, volunteering at the<br />

Brookwood Community and serving as a Conquest Catholic youth mentor. Benjamin plans to pursue a career in the computer science<br />

industry and hopes to be hired by one of the top technology corporations as a software engineer upon graduation. He is the son of James<br />

and Alicia Rehfeld.<br />

SJ23 SALUTATORIAN <strong>2017</strong><br />

Madison A. Deane will be attending the University of Texas at Dallas, majoring<br />

in biology. While at St. John XXIII College Preparatory, Madison was very<br />

involved with the Art Club, was an officer in National Art Honor Society, was<br />

an active member of National Honor Society and served as Secretary and<br />

Vice-President of Mu Alpha Theta, Math Honor Society, her junior and senior<br />

years, respectively. She has volunteered with the Debusk Enrichment Center<br />

for Academically Talented Scholars (DECATS) for over three years and has<br />

served as a tutor with the Neighborhood Kidz Club. Madison was a recipient<br />

of a scholarship from University of Texas at Dallas, being named as a UTD<br />

Academic Excellence Achievement Scholar. Upon graduation, Madison hopes<br />

to be able to use her knowledge and talent to guide others around the globe to<br />

lead healthier and happy lives. She is the daughter of Patrick and Inke Deane.<br />
