It is generally acknowledged (especially by those who<br />
have held the post!) that <strong>Club</strong> Secretaries (including<br />
Alasdair Mackie, right) are the ones who really control<br />
the <strong>Club</strong>. Their role in receiving and disseminating the<br />
masses of information received from District, RIBI and RI<br />
as well as dealing with membership issues, submission<br />
of annual returns, taking minutes at Council etc, ensure<br />
they are kept busy all year round.<br />
One reminder given to all Secretaries at the<br />
District Assembly was that they were to be a conduit for information, not a filter.<br />
Fortunately for the members, most of the post holders exercised a degree of<br />
poetic licence in this respect.<br />

found in Appendix (iii).<br />
Dark days<br />
After setting up the Dunblane Fund in 1996, following the<br />
tragedy at the Dunblane Primary School, the <strong>Club</strong> eventually<br />
agreed to wind up the Fund. And in 2000, the balance of<br />
£30,000 was transferred to the Dunblane Primary School<br />
Charitable Trust, marking the close of one of the most<br />
harrowing times in the <strong>Club</strong>’s history.<br />
George Martin, <strong>Club</strong> Treasurer, was subsequently<br />
awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of his<br />
unstinting efforts during this period.<br />
Hi-tech communications<br />
As technology advanced and the digital age arrived, the <strong>Club</strong> adapted to use<br />
the opportunities afforded by the World Wide Web. Our first website was created<br />
in 2004 and, under the control of Rotarian Rod Jones, quickly developed into a<br />
repository of information and reports on <strong>Club</strong> activities, forthcoming events and<br />
membership information. Digital cameras enabled visual displays of our activities<br />
to be available within hours of them happening.<br />
