Evolution<br />
Location, location…<br />
As with many organisations, large or small, change can be viewed with some<br />
trepidation and occasionally, suspicion by those affected. Some changes<br />
happen slowly and subtly so there is little upheaval but others are more eventful!<br />
And so it was in <strong>1999</strong>, after many years at the Dunblane Hydro, we<br />
had to look for a new venue while the Hydro underwent a major refit, on the<br />
understanding it would be a temporary arrangement. Dunblane New Golf <strong>Club</strong><br />
made us welcome but it was clear this<br />
could not be other than short term. We<br />
held our December Special General<br />
Meeting (SGM) at the Westlands Hotel<br />
and were well looked after.<br />
After the Hydro refit was<br />
completed, the new management<br />
seemed unable or unwilling to confirm our previous weekly booking so the<br />
Westlands became our new home from January 2000.<br />
Welcoming women<br />
Another major milestone was the introduction of lady members. It is fair to say<br />
this issue had been the subject of fairly heated discussion on more than one<br />
occasion. The matter was resolved once the<br />
Rotary Council on Legislation voted to admit<br />
women into Rotary <strong>Club</strong>s worldwide. And so<br />
it was with great pleasure (and some relief<br />
that we had such a splendid candidate) that<br />
Gillian Weighton, then the minister at Bridge<br />
of Allan Parish Church, was welcomed into<br />
the <strong>Club</strong> in February 2009.<br />
This followed closely on from another first for the <strong>Club</strong>, albeit of slightly<br />
less moment. After years of the <strong>Club</strong>’s Burns Supper giving free rein to the<br />
proposer of the Toast to the Lassies, with no riposte from the fairer sex, we were<br />
