Building 1
Inspired by modern sensibility with a mid-century influence,
form meets function in this “Design Matters” themed vignette.
An eclectic collection of ceramic vessels and unpolished
wood places the focus on artisanship, a key component of
this design-forward look. Simple outlines with soft contours
and rounded edges define this flexible style. An emphasis
on natural materials and low-maintenance greenery weaves
together global influences, subtle pattern and tactile
surfaces. Celebrating the simple beauty of everyday basics,
juxtaposing a soft industrial feel with organic simplicity
creates an adaptable space that appeals on many levels.
LOBBY VIGNETTE
Building 2
A nuanced palette of sand & limestone neutrals keeps this
“Earthed” vignette firmly rooted in the ground, while touches
of dark indigo and a deep forest green provide glimpses
of hidden depths. Highlighting organic materials in subtle
textures, this collection strikes a lovely balance between
bohemian and traditional elements. Wood grain, both
smooth as silk and rough with natural irregularities, weaves
throughout the space, forming a calming visual touchstone.
Natural hide, horn and feathers add the feeling of a welltraveled
collector’s den of curiosities, while subtle metallics
and woven accents insert a man-made, artisanal element.
THE INFLUENCER
Brittany Hayes
Addison’s Wonderland
Monroe, GA
addisonswonderland.com
@addisonswonderland
Brittany Hayes is the interior designer behind
the blog Addison’s Wonderland. Beginning as a
whimsical children’s bedding company in 2011,
Addison’s Wonderland has evolved into a design
& lifestyle-focused site that explores the blogger’s
“obsession with anything and everything full of color
and pattern.” After appearing on ABC’s Shark Tank
in 2013, rising star Brittany’s focus turned from
children’s bedding to a career in interior design.
These days this self-described “designer, dreamer,
doer, and now a blogger with a degree in residential
design” uses Addison’s Wonderland as a platform
to explore spaces that are colorful and full of lively
pattern and detail, recurring themes which also
appear in her vignette.
THE
Nocturne
TREND
Brittany’s vignette explored the darkly glamorous mood of the “Nocturne”
theme through the use of dark metallics and sculpture-inspired
furnishings. Antiqued mirrors mingle with angular contemporary sculpture
to create a space that is opulent and full of drama. Dramatic lighting
and a variety of luxurious textiles and bold patterns help to create an
atmosphere of edgy romance in this nocturnal wonderland.
THE
INfusion
TREND
Inspired by the past-meets-futuristic “INfusion” theme, Gen embraced the
contrast of traditional and modern. Retro-inspired geometry layered with
pattern takes center stage, along with perennially stylish warm metallics.
“We are forever inspired by 1970s influences,” said the designer, citing
iconic designer David Hicks as “an absolute favorite.” This vignette conveys
a classic vintage, India-inspired style, juxtaposed with a modern feel, along
with a few of the signature Pencil and Paper elements of surprise.
Entertaining expert Mandy Kellogg Rye drew inspiration for her vignette
from the “Earthed” theme, imagining a space for “sitting in a garden in
the French countryside drinking wine.” A palette of beautiful neutral tones
brought this theme to life with the use of natural textures and patterns.
Wood, rattan, natural minerals and fossilized shell play against subtle
brass accents to create a serene space.
THE
Earthed
TREND
Victoria found inspiration in the “Earthed” theme, drawing on its focus
on tactility and weathered, timeworn objects. The designer’s Belgian
and Japanese-influenced vignette drew on the many nature-inspired
shapes and forms of the “Earthed” theme, highlighting textures such as
earthenware and wood grain as well as natural dyes and coloring. Smooth
marble and alabaster meet patinated wood and woven seagrass in this
vignette, for a look that juxtaposes textures in a low-contrast palette.
In her exploration of the “Design Matters” theme, Vicki incorporated
TEMPORARY VIGNETTE
Trending in High Design
Take a walk on the “Nocturne” side in this vignette, highlighting a sultry
and sophisticated palette and luxe materials like supple leather, brass,
silk and shagreen. High-polish surfaces are juxtaposed with natural
treasures such as horn, quill, aged metallics and jagged quartz crystal
in the well-curated collection of a global aesthete.
