OUR COMMITTEE STRUCTURE<br />
As explained earlier in this statement, in addition to the Audit, Risk and Governance Committee, Sport England<br />
established three new Committees in September <strong>2016</strong> – the Investment Committee, the Workforce Committee,<br />
and the Chairs and Remuneration Committee (previously the Terms and Remuneration Committee). The Project<br />
Committee was disbanded in September <strong>2016</strong>, with its functions relating to approving and monitoring major grant<br />
awards being undertaken by the Investment Committee<br />
Set out below are some of the key areas which the Committees focused on during the year.<br />
Project Committee (disbanded September <strong>2016</strong>)<br />
• Approval of all major capital and revenue awards<br />
under the 2012-20<strong>17</strong> strategy, including for<br />
example:<br />
- Strategic Facilities<br />
- Improvement Fund<br />
- Protecting playing fields<br />
- Our dedicated youth and disability programmes<br />
Investment Committee (est. Sept <strong>2016</strong>)<br />
• Approval of all major capital and revenue awards<br />
under new investment programmes – Tackling<br />
Inactivity, Children and Young People, Volunteering,<br />
Mass Markets, Sustaining the Core Market, Working<br />
Locally and Facilities, including for example:<br />
- Community Sport Activation Fund<br />
- School Games and organisers<br />
- Swim Pilots<br />
Audit, Risk and Governance Committee<br />
• Regular review of corporate (strategic) and operational<br />
risk profile<br />
• The <strong>2016</strong>-20<strong>17</strong> accounts preparation process<br />
• Review of financial forecasts including critically cashflow<br />
and detailed monitoring of monthly management<br />
accounts every quarter<br />
• National Governing Body and partner governance,<br />
including key issues arising from the audit and<br />
assurance process<br />
• The internal audit plan for <strong>2016</strong>-20<strong>17</strong> and internal audit<br />
reports<br />
• Regular reports on fraud and whistleblowing<br />
Workforce Committee<br />
• Oversight and development of Workforce<br />
Strategy, Volunteering Strategy, Coaching Plan for<br />
England, Professional Development – Leadership<br />
and Diversity, including for example:<br />
- Coaching Plan implementation and investment<br />
- Volunteering implementation and investment<br />
- Professional workforce<br />
Chairs & Remuneration Committee (est. Sept <strong>2016</strong>)<br />
• Maintained overview of developments in public sector<br />
pay<br />
• Chief Executive’s remuneration, performance and<br />
objectives<br />
• Advised the Chief Executive on organisational design<br />
and any structural changes required to support the<br />
implementation of the new strategy.<br />
