Rockwood theater students<br />

shine at conference<br />

Rockwood Summit and Lafayette High<br />

students had great success at this year’s<br />

Missouri Thespian Conference, which was<br />

held in St. Louis.<br />

“We had four students compete in the<br />

individual events category,” said Rockwood<br />

Summit High theater teacher Katherine<br />

Fischer. “There was also duet acting,<br />

musical solo and acting solo.”<br />

Isa Garcia and Bryce Miller, performing<br />

as duet acting, and Mikeysa Powell, performing<br />

a musical solo, received a “superior”<br />

rating, while senior Sydnee Nelson,<br />

performing as solo acting, received an<br />

“excellent” rating.<br />

“This is my eighth year at Summit, and<br />

it’s the first time I’ve had two separate student<br />

performances get a ‘superior’ rating,”<br />

said Fischer.<br />

An improv troupe from Lafayette High,<br />

Rockwood Summit students Isa Garcia and<br />

Bryce Miller received “superior” ratings at the<br />

Missouri Thespian Conference.<br />

named “Undefined,” also received a “superior”<br />

rating. The troupe included Alex<br />

Dederer, Peyton Boyd, Will Gerretsen,<br />

Abby Mirikitani and Keilah Moore.<br />

Any student who receives a “superior”<br />

rating regionally is invited to continue<br />

competing at the national level. That next<br />

step is the International Thespian Festival<br />

in Lincoln, Nebraska.<br />

Third round of Merit Scholarship<br />

winners announced<br />

National Merit Scholarship Corporation<br />

[NMSC] announced more than 3,200<br />

winners of National Merit Scholarships<br />

financed by U.S. colleges and universities.<br />

their scholarship winners from among the<br />

finalists in the 20<strong>17</strong> National Merit Scholarship<br />

Program who plan to attend their<br />
