A Needle Pulling Thread Summer 2017 Sampler

This Red and White issue of A Needle Pulling Thread is a beautiful compilation of ideas to commemorate Canada’s very special birthday. Between quilts and knit wear, there are 10 projects created in our patriotic colours, however, project ideas are eternal, once they are suggested you can modify these to suit your favourite colours and decor scheme. 2017 has been for me a year of knitting shawls, it just happened this way, and by synchronicity Cynthia MacDougall designed the Double Horseshoe Wedding Shawl for this issue. This is an appropriate culmination to her posts on KNITmuch.com where she reviewed Fibra Natura’s Flax Lace and designed the Knitted Lace Stole for the bridesmaids or mother of the bride, you can get the pattern to it in her "Flax lace yarn makes this exquisite knitted lace stole perfect for weddings" post. In the same vein of exploring the Flax Lace yarn, crochet designer Ruth Forbes designed a delicately textured crocheted tank top that can so easily be dressed up or down, but it will always be very elegant. Finally, follow the journey of one artist who transformed a wedding dress bought at a thrift store into a fairy tale prom dress for her daughter Josephine. Make & Be Happy indeed, enjoy the issue.

Editor's letter
I state the obvious when I say this is the red
and white issue in honour of Canada's very
special birthday. Since A Needle Pulling Thread
Magazine is read across North America and
in some parts of the world in digital format,
needless to say, feel free to change colours.
Others will want to make the projects in
the same patriotic colours to commemorate
Canada's 150 th Birthday.
I'm thrilled about the knit and crochet wear
in this issue. So perfect for summer and early
fall, nothing too complicated but with enough
detail to keep your interest. These are knitted
and crocheted using light yarns like Red
Heart's Soft Touch, Fibra Natura and Flax Lace
yarns. How perfect for warm or downright hot
weather!
There are two features to highlight and both
are related to weddings. Janine Zeck's A Prom
Dress for Josephine is a feature on how to
transform a wedding dress into a prom dress.
You'll be amazed at how easy it is to work with
what's already available on the wedding dress.
The motto is, work with what you have, and
change what is easiest to change.
The second feature is by Cynthia MacDougall.
You might have seen her yarn review of
Universal Yarns' new Flax Lace on KNITmuch
published in May 2017. Her review included a
swatch knit up in a lace pattern turned into a
ring bearer pillow. From that she went on to
design a stole perfect for the mother of the
bride or bridesmaids. But what's more stunning
is the complementing Horseshoe Wedding Stole
in this issue which completes the set. There are
links to her KNITmuch post if you want to make
this full set.
Lastly, this red and white issue wouldn't be
complete without some redwork and cross
stitch projects created with a little humour and
keeping in mind our patriotic colours.
Enjoy a full year of celebration!
Cheerfully,
MAKE & BE HAPPY
