13. Dorothea WONNENBERG (Ludwig, Friedrich, <strong>Heinrich</strong>) was born on 15 Oct 1877 in Kronental, North<br />

Cau<strong>ca</strong>sus. She married Johann 'John D.' Quast, son <strong>of</strong> Gottfried Quast and Karolina H<strong>of</strong>fman, on 17 Nov 1894<br />

in North Cau<strong>ca</strong>sus. Dorothea and Johann immigrated on 28 Oct 1905 to Gavesten, TX. She immigrated in Oct<br />

1908 to Spondin area, AB. In Nov 1908 Dorothea and Johann took out a homestead at SW19 TW33 RG11 W4<br />

which was close to Spondin, AB. They raised their family and farmed here until they retired. She died on 14<br />

Oct 1954 in Calgary, AB, at age 76.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> Dorothea <strong>Wonnenberg</strong> and Johann 'John D.' Quast were as follows:<br />

i. Karolina was born on 8 Feb 1894 and was adopted into the Quast family. She died<br />

in 1918 in Castor, AB.<br />

27. ii. Alexander 'Alex,' born 19 Jun 1901 in N. Caucusas; died 1 Mar 1977 in Hanna,<br />

AB.<br />

iii. Edward was born cir<strong>ca</strong> 1903 in N. Caucusas. He died in Oct 1905 at sea.<br />

iv. Johann 'John' was born on 9 Oct 1906 in Alva, OK. Johann owned and operated a<br />

Texaco service station between 1921 and 1960 in Hanna, AB. He married Evalina<br />

Lorna (Janke) Haynes on 15 Jul 1961 in Osoyoos, BC. He died on 18 Aug 1984 in<br />

Edmonton, AB, at age 77. He was buried on 21 Aug 1984 in Sherwood Park, AB.<br />

v. <strong>Heinrich</strong> was born on 28 Jan 1910 in Spondin, AB. He died in Jul 1931 in<br />

Spondin, AB, at age 21. He was buried in Jul 1931 in Spondin, AB.<br />

28. vi. Leontina 'Leah,' born 30 Jul 1911 in Richdale, AB; died 11 Jan 1979 in Kamloops,<br />

BC.<br />

14. Justina WONNENBERG (Ludwig, Friedrich, <strong>Heinrich</strong>) was born on 8 Sep 1874 in Rostov, North<br />

Cau<strong>ca</strong>sus. She married Gottlieb Koenig, son <strong>of</strong> Jacob Koenig and Katherine Seigfried, cir<strong>ca</strong> 1895 in N.<br />

Caucusas. She and Gottlieb Koenig emigrated from Kronental, North Cau<strong>ca</strong>sus, and sailed from Bremen,<br />

Germany May 13, 1899 on the ship 'Kaiser Wilhelm de Gross' with their 2 oldest children arriving Ellis Island,<br />

New York on 31 May 1899. We found Justina's parents and her siblings on the same ship. Between Feb 1906<br />

and Oct 1908 Justina lived in Granada, CO, where the family had moved be<strong>ca</strong>use <strong>of</strong> her husband’s illness. After<br />

he died her brother, Martin helped take <strong>ca</strong>re <strong>of</strong> the beet crop on land that they had rented. In Oct 1908 Justina<br />

immigrated to Canada along with her brother Ludwig Jr. Wonenberg and two sisters Dorothea (John Quast) and<br />

Louisa (Sam Littau) and their families as well as her mother Wilhelmina Bauch <strong>Wonnenberg</strong>. The siblings went<br />

to Hanna, Alberta to homestead and Justina stayed in Calgary cleaning houses, washed & ironed cloths and baby<br />

sitting children while her own children went to school. Grandma <strong>Wonnenberg</strong> stayed with Justina and her<br />

family. She married Phillip Keim in 1910 in Acme, AB. Philip was a strong Adventist and had just lost his wife<br />
