community to Romania, because of an irresponsible life style. After the deportation, Eva was granted a divorce
and married Ludwig Fruck 26 Aug 1848.

in Alt Arzis, Bessarabia. On 30 Nov 1839 Friedrich took over the operation of farm #95 in Tarutino,
Bessarabia.
On 12 Nov 1842 he was purchased farm No. 1, the horse mill, plow and harrow for 100 Rubles silver from
Friedrich Wendland in Tarutino, Bessarabia. He appeared on the census of 15 Sep 1850 in Tarutino,
Bessarabia. He appeared on the census of 17 Jan 1859 in Tarutino, Bessarabia. After his first wife died earlier
in 1863 he married Justine Huff on 22 Nov 1863 in Tarutino, Bessarabia. In 1875 (he was a widower) sold farm
#1 to George Friedrich Gaeckle and immigrated to Kronental, North Caucasus, (Chaginsko-Nemetzkon). He
died circa 1875 in Kronental, North Caucasus.

6. Samuel WONNENBERG Sr (Heinrich) was born on 16 Oct 1825 in Tarutino, Bessarabia. He married Eva
Rosina Goetz, daughter of Ludwig Goetz and Karoline Brunsch, on 1 Nov 1845 in Tarutino, Bessarabia. In
1849 he purchased farm #81 for 320 Rubles, where he farmed until he sold it to Karl Kahler in 1866 and moved
back to farm #95. He appeared on the census of 15 Sep 1850 in Tarutino, Bessarabia. He appeared on the
census of 17 Jan 1859 in Tarutino, Bessarabia. On 11 Aug 1866 Samuel Wonnenberg Sr took over the family
farm(#95), where farmed it untill his death in 1893. The farm had been given to him by his older brother
August.
In 1893 the farm was inherited by Samuel's 3 sons:
1. Christoph, the oldest took 1/3 and after his death in 1911, his 5 daughters inherited this 1/3.
2. Samuel Jr, took over 1/3, however he also died in 1911 and his part was inherited by his sons, Wilhelm,
Edward, Alfred,Gustav (Robert immigrated to Canada and sold his 1/5 share to the other 4 brothers).
3. Daniel, the youngest son, sold his 1/3 interest to Michael Tetzlaff (son of Daniel Tetslaff of #96) as he went
to Vischina Gov Cherson [sic] in 1910.
Samuel purchased a horse operated flour mill in 1877 at farm #93 which he operated until 1912 when it was
sold and dismantled. He died on 28 Feb 1893 in Tarutino, Bessarabia, at age 67.

8. Ludwig WONNENBERG Sr. (Friedrich, Heinrich) was born on 30 Mar 1845 in Tarutino, Bessarabia.
Ludwig was baptized on 6 Apr 1845. The source indicates that a local baptism had been performed on 1 April
1845, so we assume that the regular Pastor (Croon) attended periodically. He married Wilhelmina Bauch,
daughter of Samuel Bauch and Wilhelmina Banek, circa 1870 in Bessarabia. He immigrated in 1874 to
Chaginsko-Nemetzkon, North Caucasus. He and Wilhelmina Bauch immigrated on 31 May 1899 to Ellis
Island, New York, NY. The ship manifest indicates that Ludwig and his family emigrated from 'Nemezko
Chaginsk' which is Russian for Kronental North Caucasus. It indicates that the family had $450 and that their
destination was El Reno, OK (Near Oklahoma City) and they were sponsered by John Stadler. He died in Oct
1904 in Avard, OK, at age 59.

Charlotte Hoffman in 1894 in Kronental, North Caucasus. Daniel and his family immigrated to Ellis Island
New York, NY, landing on 31 May 1899 from 'Nemezko Chaginsk' which is Russian for Kronental, N.
Caucasus. In 1902 Daniel was employed George Windecker working beets in Eaton, CO. He was naturalized
on 14 Nov 1905 in OK. In 1905 we find him working on a beet farm in Granada, CO. Daniel was issued the
Land title to a homestead on 6 Dec 1906 in Tangier, OK. On 28 Jan 1907 he sold the homestead land for $1500
which included $800 cash and a mortgage of $700. In 1907 the family moved to Colorado where they farmed
and raised their family until they retired to Greeley in 1931. Daniel and Maria appeared on the census of 1 May
1910 in Township 7, Ault, CO. They were members of the Seven Day Adventist Church. He died on 18 Aug
1944 in Greeley, CO, at age 72. He was buried on 21 Aug 1944 in Greeley, CO.
There were no children of Daniel Wonnenberg and Daniel's first wife (--?--).

14. Justina WONNENBERG (Ludwig, Friedrich, Heinrich) was born on 8 Sep 1874 in Rostov, North
Caucasus. She married Gottlieb Koenig, son of Jacob Koenig and Katherine Seigfried, circa 1895 in N.
Caucusas. She and Gottlieb Koenig emigrated from Kronental, North Caucasus, and sailed from Bremen,
Germany May 13, 1899 on the ship 'Kaiser Wilhelm de Gross' with their 2 oldest children arriving Ellis Island,
New York on 31 May 1899. We found Justina's parents and her siblings on the same ship. Between Feb 1906
and Oct 1908 Justina lived in Granada, CO, where the family had moved because of her husband’s illness. After
he died her brother, Martin helped take care of the beet crop on land that they had rented. In Oct 1908 Justina
immigrated to Canada along with her brother Ludwig Jr. Wonenberg and two sisters Dorothea (John Quast) and
Louisa (Sam Littau) and their families as well as her mother Wilhelmina Bauch Wonnenberg. The siblings went
to Hanna, Alberta to homestead and Justina stayed in Calgary cleaning houses, washed & ironed cloths and baby
sitting children while her own children went to school. Grandma Wonnenberg stayed with Justina and her
family. She married Phillip Keim in 1910 in Acme, AB. Philip was a strong Adventist and had just lost his wife

leaving him with 6 children. Justina died on 31 Dec 1911 in Acme, AB, at age 37 of TB. She was buried in
Bieseker-Levelland Seven Day Adventist Church - East of Beiseker, AB.
Justina Wonnenberg and Gottlieb Koenig had six children; for further information please see the history of

There were no children of Justina Wonnenberg and Phillip Keim.
15. Louisa WONNENBERG (Ludwig, Friedrich, Heinrich) was born on 15 Apr 1880 in North Caucasus. She
married Samuel Littau, son of Martin Jr. Littau and Anna Christina Krueger, circa 1899 in North Caucasus. She
died on 17 Jan 1958 in Lodi, CA, at age 77. She was buried on 20 Jan 1958 in Cherokee Memorial Park Lodi,
CA.

16. Martin WONNENBERG (Ludwig, Friedrich, Heinrich) was born on 12 Jan 1882 in Kronental, North
Caucasus. He appeared on the census of 1 May 1910 in Helena Township, OK, which showed that he was
employed as a labourer for the railway. Circa 1912, we noted that the three sons dropped one "N" in their last
name. Martin's wedding certificate of 1913 used only one N, however his Naturalization Certificate which was
done about the same time listed him with 2 Ns, but he signed it with one. Martin married Elizabeth Elsie
Warner, daughter of Philip Christopher Warner and Christiana Werner, on 22 Mar 1913 in Ault, CO. At the
time of her marriage Elizabeth lived in Lyons, CO. After Elizabeth's sudden death Martin married Anna
Elizabeth Werner on 9 Feb 1914 in Greeley, CO. In fact Martin met Anna at Elizabeth's funeral as the 2 girls
had been good friends. Anna brought Erna Dorsch into the marriage and Erna was raised as one of the family
and did not realize she was not Martin's child until she got her birth certificate at the time of her own marriage.
Circa 1923 Martin was took over his father-in-law's homestead in Briggsdale, CO, and raised his family and
farmed this land for the next 20 years. He appeared on the census of 10 Apr 1930 in Precinct 53, CO. He
received a certificate of naturalization on 16 Mar 1964 which confirmed that he had been naturalized by the
Sixth Judicial Court , Woodward, OK. He died on 5 Jan 1972 in Greeley, CO, at age 89. He was buried on 10
Jan 1972 in Briggsdale Cemetery, CO.

economical disaster and in 1927 we find them back in Idaho at Castleford near Twin Falls.
In 1928 John bought 7 lots for the tax owing in the townsite of in Filer, ID. John and Carrie appeared on the
census of 15 Apr 1930 in Castleford, ID. In 1940 John traded the 7 lots in Filer for 40 acres of land south of
Buhl, ID which they farmed for only 2 years before John had a heart attack. Most of this land was still in the
family and as of Oct 2005, 7 grandchildren lived on this 40 acres.

Maude Anderst immigrated in Oct 1908 to Spondin area, AB. On 5 Apr 1909 Ludwig made application for
entry for a homestead on two different quarter sections - both the SW and NW quarter of 9-34-7 W4M. On
September 28, 1909 he signed a declaration to abandon both of these quarters with the explanation that "The
land is unfit for cultivation". Through these affidavits he was granted release from any obligations on these two
quarter sections.
On 11 Feb 1910 Ludwig made an application and was granted 'entry' to his homestead NW2-32-13 W4 near
Hanna, AB. He built a sod house 12' X 29' and and moved in on 26 Mar 1910. Over the next three years they
built a sod barn 13' X 34', dug a water well, plowed 40 acres and fenced 40 additional acres and by 1913 had a
farm with 4 horses, 11 cattle and 3 pigs. In 1911, 12, 13 he put a crop in on 40, 23 and 14 acres. Ludwig was
issued land title rights for his homestead on NW1/4 Sec 2, Twp 32, Rg13, W4M on 30 May 1913 near Hanna,
AB. In 1918 Ludwig and Maude are listed as one of the premier members of the Seven Day Adventist
congregation in the Sponden, Alberta district. The family followed this religion their entire life. Ludwig was
listed as the owner of Section 30, Township 31, Range 12, W4 on a 1920 map. In 1923 Ludwig and the family
left Canada immigrated to Twin Falls, ID. He appeared on the census of 4 Apr 1930 in Twin Falls, ID.
