Issue 3/2004
50 000 m² modular MINDA plastic chains bring motion to
the corrugated cardboard industry
To date, MINDA has successfully equipped 14 fully automatic large intermediate
storages and many transport lines in the field of corrugated cardboard
production and processing with plastic chain conveyors.
Plastic chain conveyors ready for dispatch
More than 50 000 m² of these modular chains
have been used in over 80 machine lines. For
a recently obtained large order alone, MINDA
will install about 8000 m² of chains.
These figures manifest the success of the
new MINDA conveyor system introduced to
the corrugated cardboard industry. Today
more than 90% of all conveyors leaving
MINDA are equipped with plastic chains, almost
making the good old roller conveyor obsolete.
MINDA installed the first conveyors equipped
with modular plastic chains in the corrugated
cardboard industry 5 years ago. These chains
have been in operation without any problem
at all ever since. There is hardly any noticeable
wear on the chain, the sprockets or on
the glide support.
Despite this victory of the new transport system, MINDA did not just lay back and enjoy their
success:
The University of Chemnitz was asked to carry out long term trials with various
chains and glide supports.
The construction of the conveyor was completely redesigned.
All components and assembly groups were scrutinized; many features could be
further optimised.
A new modular plastic chain was developed especially for the transport of corrugated
cardboard.
Advantages of this consequent further development
Sturdy 1“ Acetal chain with extremely robust sprockets
Special glide table with a minimal friction value, no static charge
Minimal spacing between the chain tracks of a conveyor
Shear-off protected pre-installation of the sensor system within a conveyor, clean and
protected cable routing
Minimal spacing between conveyors positioned next to each other, program controlled
coupling to transport wide blocks
Plane surface, all add-on elements are installed beneath the chain level, yet easily accessible
New generation of plastic chain conveyors
Small transition gaps between two conveyor elements
Details:
On a glide surface made of high density laminated
timber, an SLF Acetal chain (super
low friction) shows the lowest friction value
and almost no wear.
Electrostatic charges do not occur with this
friction situation.
MINDA applied for a patent for these positive
features.
Today, MINDA offers a modular system
encompassing all required lengths and
widths in all installation situations occurring
in practice.
With its robust intermeshing geometry, the 1“
chain runs entirely maintenance free in all
plants. Operating experience gained so far
allow a very high operating life expectancy
prognosis for this new conveyor system.
MINDA also transports your corrugated cardboard!
