Do you have a favorite restaurant on the North Shore? Right now, it’d probably be Jersey Mike’s to go to with the football team because we go there a lot after doubles. The club sub is my favorite one. Do you have any superstitions before, during or after a game? I’m a really superstitious guy. I feel like whenever I make a move during the day of a game, I always wonder “Will they affect the game?” but in the back of my head I’m thinking “No, I’m just gonna do what I need to do during the game and everything will be fine.” I’m always thinking about whether some superstitions will affect how I play. If you were going on a deserted island and could bring something or someone, what would it be? I’d bring water and some seeds so I could plant a tree to cultivate the land and survive out there. I would also signal for help somehow, someway. What is the best piece of advice you’ve gotten? To be competitive because you know there are always going to be people striving to get to where you’re at. There are always going to be people above you, so you have to be competitive and work hard because that mindset will get you to where you need to be. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Japan and Shanghai. I’ve always been so intrigued with how many people there are and how densely populated it is, how many skyscrapers there are in one area. I’ve always wondered what it’s like to be in that place. What’s the best part about being a New Trier athlete? Everyone is just as committed as you, everyone is in it with you, and you’re also getting your academics solved because it’s such a good academic school. When and why did you start playing football? My dad played football for Michigan and I used to hear stories about that. It was always my favorite sport, I loved watching the contact and I was always a bigger kid. I started in fifth grade because my parents wouldn’t let me play in fourth grade because they thought I was too young. VICTORY VIEWS If you could play a sport other than football, what would it be? Basketball. I love basketball. The one thing about football is the pads get in the way and I like how basketball is free flowing and you can dribble around the court. What’s the best part about playing football? How many people you get to know. There are 11 guys on both sides of the football and those are just first-stringers. There’s like 70 people on our team and you don’t get that in any other sport. Having a team like that is so much fun. If you could have one super power, what would it be? To have the ability to manipulate time because you could basically do anything. If you go back in time, you could solve anything. If you think something is boring, you can just skip it.
