life outside the classrooms and<br />

and urged the alumnus of the<br />

in their lives after school.<br />
He advised them to shun all<br />
forms of social vices, cultivate<br />
the habit of readi<strong>ng</strong>, and inculcate<br />
good behaviour that would<br />
be benefitti<strong>ng</strong>, the families,<br />
friends, community, country,<br />
and the world at large.<br />
“I seize this opportunity to<br />
co<strong>ng</strong>ratulate the graduates<br />
since today marks another milestone<br />
in your lives, the end of<br />
your secondary schooli<strong>ng</strong> and<br />
the beginni<strong>ng</strong> of a new page in<br />
your lives which hopefully will<br />
be a brighter one if you imbibe<br />
good moral behaviours and stay<br />
away from illicit drugs and other<br />
vices”, he stated.<br />
He asked them to be confident<br />
about their abilities and<br />
be proud of who they are, sayi<strong>ng</strong><br />
they must have the desire<br />
to achieve excellence in their<br />
various fields of endeavours as<br />
the decisions they make, henceforth<br />
would determine which<br />
way their lives will go.<br />
Accordi<strong>ng</strong> to him, they<br />
should make maximum use of<br />
opportunities, like Information<br />
Technology (I.T) that is available<br />
now at their disposal to<br />
improve their learni<strong>ng</strong> as those<br />
were not available to earlier generations.<br />

David Ogburn, an educationist<br />
and the Principal of Avi-Cenna<br />
International School has stressed<br />
the need to expose children between<br />
the ages of two and three<br />
to early year pre-school system.<br />
Accordi<strong>ng</strong> to him a child that<br />
passes through this stage has<br />
more emotional stability as well<br />
as some basic introduction to academics<br />
and basic counti<strong>ng</strong> methodologies<br />
over others.<br />

Ambode, wife of the Lagos state<br />

an official trip to Abuja.<br />
The Governor, who disclosed<br />
this, explained that<br />
he was worki<strong>ng</strong> towards full<br />
commencement of e<strong>ng</strong>ineeri<strong>ng</strong><br />
courses at the State Polytechnic<br />
and University, sayi<strong>ng</strong><br />
that the foundation for quality<br />
learni<strong>ng</strong> must be stre<strong>ng</strong>thened.<br />
He pledged to leave no stone<br />
unturned in the traini<strong>ng</strong> and<br />
provision of learni<strong>ng</strong> infrastructure<br />
for the you<strong>ng</strong> people<br />
in science oriented courses in<br />
secondary schools in the state.<br />
He said his administration<br />
decided to commence with the<br />
recruitment of 1,569 teachers<br />
to teach all science subjects<br />
and E<strong>ng</strong>lish la<strong>ng</strong>uage in secondary<br />
schools in the state.<br />
Emphasisi<strong>ng</strong> the need to<br />
build capacity and stre<strong>ng</strong>theni<strong>ng</strong><br />
manpower ahead of the<br />
impendi<strong>ng</strong> economic recovery<br />
in the country, the governor<br />
said; “Certainly, as we prepare<br />
governor in Ikeja, explained that<br />
the idea was to raise the early<br />
learni<strong>ng</strong> childcare provision at<br />
the school.<br />
Accordi<strong>ng</strong> to him the centre<br />
would offer new opportunities<br />
to e<strong>ng</strong>age and stimulate a deeper<br />
interest in learni<strong>ng</strong> for pupils<br />
thereby layi<strong>ng</strong> a solid foundation<br />
for entry into primary school.<br />
“Education is much more than<br />
what is taught in the classroom,<br />
children learn from their community<br />
on how to behave, they also<br />
learn from the school environment,”<br />
he said.<br />
The principal said the whole<br />
area is themed around a street<br />
scene with brightly decorated<br />
shops includi<strong>ng</strong>; realistic street<br />
furniture, addi<strong>ng</strong> that the school<br />
towards economic recovery, we<br />
need to also build capacity in<br />
order to move on, if I don’t do<br />
that, it means that I don’t have<br />
faith in the economy.”<br />
Assuri<strong>ng</strong> the people of the<br />
state to remain focussed irrespective<br />
of the distractions,<br />
Emmanuel stated;<br />
“I am one of those that have<br />
full confidence in the economy,<br />
that as we move towards the<br />
last quarter of the year, the<br />
economy should be back on<br />
the part of recovery.”<br />

is committed to continuous improvement<br />
and to creati<strong>ng</strong> an<br />

pupils.<br />
He reiterated that the idea has<br />
to do with improvement facilities<br />
and the way the school e<strong>ng</strong>ages its<br />
pupils in teachi<strong>ng</strong> areas especially<br />
where there is need to develop how<br />
to control their emotions as well as<br />
the way they interact with other<br />
children.<br />
“At this stage they learn<br />
through variety of methods not<br />
expected of normal secondary<br />
school students where the teacher<br />
stands in front of the class, we inculcate<br />
a sense of play into them,<br />
they learn to use their body for coordination,<br />
they learn to socialise<br />
and communicate,” he said.<br />

in Nigeria,” will feature Dr.<br />

Affairs, as the keynote<br />
speaker.<br />
The programme, billed for<br />
the University of Lagos come<br />
September 2017, will feature<br />
prominent personalities who<br />
had made meani<strong>ng</strong>ful impacts<br />
on humanities in their chosen<br />
