Welcome to GotHeNBURG aNd WesteRN sWedeN
And most welcome to
cIP FoRUm 2011
GothenburG and the surroundinG Västra Götaland region is a melting
pot. Here industrialists are mixed with customers, university students
with factory workers, new and immigrant Swedes with people born here
and nostalgics with progressives. In recent years, innovators have become an
increasingly visible component of this mix. Intellectual property issues have
been raised to agendas extending far beyond the researchers' chambers. This
is a sign of the times. To develop our society, it is increasingly evident that
we are dependent on the power of the brain, not just that of the hand. The
intellectual property issues have landed on the agenda also far away from the
researchers´ chambers. They are now a foundation for the gradual transition
of the industrial society into the knowledge society.
We bid you Welcome to the ciP Forum 2011, taking place in these very
days when change is imminent, here as well as globally. The impressive programme
of the conference spans most of the topics that will have a decisive
impact on our future. That is precisely why your presence here is more than
a visit; it is a participation in the process of shaping the future.
So, once again, most heartily welcome to our corner of the world, to
Gothenburg and western Sweden!
cIP FoRUm – a teN
Launching a new international business conference among many was a daring venture when
in 2001 CIP, the Center for Intellectual Property at Chalmers University of Technology and
the University of Gothenburg, organized its first CIP ForUm. When a number of invited,
internationally renowned industrialists, academics and representatives of the public sector rapidly
confirmed their partici pation, however, the organizers knew that they were on the right track:
Intellectual Property, IP, was increasingly seen as a key element in the ongoing transition to a
knowledge economy.
Over the last ten years, the CIP FOrum has played
a central role in expanding the traditionally legal
discourse on intellectual property rights into a new,
inter-disciplinary knowledge-based business dialogue
at the core of strategic management in industry and
universities. In the process the event has grown from a
rather humble four page program, 50 participants and
15 speakers in 2001 to something much larger ten years
later. Linking theory and practice and mixing executives
with masters students, is at the core of the unique
experience in Gothenburg every two years. Where else
but CIP FOrum can you discuss new IP-based business
models with your “chauffeur” from the airport?
strateGic and oPerational
The first CIP FOrum had two main topics:
Technology/r&D collaboration and alliances in industry,
and IP litigation & legal strategies. Additional
topics included business strategies/IP strategies,
Intellectual Capital management and IP valuation.
Two years later the theme of the 2003 CIP FOrum
was “managing the Intellectual Value Chain”.
In 2005 the response to the quest for IP under standing,
not least from industry, spurred the organizers to focus
on “managing IP as Core Business”. The event went
even further to show that IP management was not
only an issue for major corporations; it applied equally
to new innovation firms, SmE´s, public research organizations,
incubators and universities, and spanned
the strategic and operational level. Furthermore it
was stated that the main goal of CIP FOrum was
to foster a process of continuous learning and competence
building within IP and knowledge-based business
management, to the benefit of industry, academia
and society as a whole.
Pivotal role
The 2007 CIP FOrum was held in an even more
positive spirit, under the theme “En route to an intellectualized
economy”. The growth of knowledge-based
business development had been exponential during the
past six years, with industry gradually transforming itself
into knowledge-based business and universities finding
their entrepreneurial role as engines of innovation.
The organizers however also warned that the knowledge
economy was still a moving target, with game- changing
new business often being built on unexamined foundations
and operating globally without globally harmonized
or even acknowledged business rules for this new
economy. “In 2007 it is safe to say that there is little
doubt that intellectual assets, property and capital will
play a pivotal role in relation to wealth and welfare in
the 21st century,” the organizers wrote.
no. 2 in euroPe
The 2009 CIP FOrum was organized against a backdrop
of financialcrisis and a general sense of industrial
and commercial gloom worldwide. The Forum
however attracted even more participants and served
them a well assorted buffet of topics under the theme
“The Future of of Innovation.” Again the atmosphere
was one of general optimism about the prospects of
the knowledge economy. It was underlined that this
required continuous investments in innovation and
entrepreneurship, something Gothenburg and western
Sweden have taken to heart. In fact the western Sweden
cIP FoRUm 2011 | ProGram
region is, next to Stuttgart, Germany, the European
region investing most in corporate research and
development, making it a world leader in this respect.
Hosting an event on translating investments in knowledge
into wealth and welfare was never more relevant.
2011 and beyond
The world has moved forward rapidly over the last ten
years and nowadays more and more people in industry,
academia, and government accept the need to focus
on IP and knowledge-based business development to
create strong cities, regions, and nations. Knowledge
is generally accepted as “The New Wealth of Nations”
while at the same time businesses are growing beyond
the borders of nations – driving the need for collaborative
innovation.
Ten years ago the organizers had a vision of building
a new understanding of how intellectual property
could create wealth and welfare in the knowledge economy.
Beyond a new understanding, a community of
friends was forged that will remain long after the lights
are turned off.
WHY We oRgAnIze
aNd sUPPoRt cIP FoRUm
ciP Forum is an initiative positioned at the interface of the public and private spheres, with the objective
to advance the state of the art in understanding global challenges facing industry, academia, and society as a whole in the
transition to the knowledge economy. On the surface, CIP FOrum is a conference and meeting place. Beyond the four
day program, however, it is a platform for professional relationships to be developed and for launching concrete initatives
and collaborations. Over the last ten years we have seen how many of the processes discussed at CIP FOrum are being
picked up and turned into practice, both by participants at CIP FOrum and society at large, and are becoming part of
our collective movement into the knowledge-based economy. It has been a privilege to provide the platform supporting
some of these developments. Here we would like to share with you just a sample of the many perspectives and expectations
on CIP FOrum that bring our various stakeholders together.
ruud Peters
Ruud Peters, ceo of Philips Intellectual Property & standards, executive Vice President of Philips International
BV & chairman, cIP FoRUm 2011
“more than ever, CIP FOrum shows us how the role of intellectual property and our relationship to
it have changed over the last decades and must continue to change. CIP FOrum has seen IP move
beyond the sphere of consultancy firms and patent agents and take center stage in board rooms, research
environments, and the public agenda.”
anneli hulthén
mayor and chairman of the city executive Board, Gothenburg
“In the vision of the sustainable and good society, the knowledge-driven economy has a key role. I hope
that CIP FOrum will facilitate increased cooperation between academia, companies and the public
sector that will help build this economy. In the long run, this will be one of many contributions that help
build Gothenburg as a knowledge city, driving economic growth and benefiting all citizens.”
helena l nilsson
director of research and development at the department of regional development at Region Västra Götaland
“Building a sustainable region at the forefront of research and development in new growth sectors is a
question of integrating and lifting up regional networks and clusters to reach international standards.
CIP FOrum shows us how these challenges exist in regions all across the world, and is one example
of region Västra Götaland’s ongoing work to continuously evolve to meet the knowledge economy.”
birGitta l-öFverholm
chairman of the organizing committee of cIP FoRUm 2011 & director, trade and Industry Group, Göteborg & co
“I see CIP FOrum as a valuable contribution to the development of Gothenburg as a platform for
collaboration between industry, universities and organizations, in order to be one of the most welcoming
and attractive metropolitan regions to visit and in which to live and work.”
marGareta Wallin Peterson
Pro-Vice chancellor, University of Gothenburg & chairman cIP
“CIP FOrum should be seen as an initiative in the context of developing the university as a strong
and strategic actor with concrete responsibility for innovation. This development does not mean the
university abandons its role as an independent and critical voice and allows commercial interests to direct
the academic vision. It must follow its own strategies and strive to elaborate these together with industry.
It is all about finding promising areas and then cooperating through long-term, equal relationships.
Opportunistic research is not in anybody's greater interest.”
eva-lena albihn
deputy ceo & Financial director, Business Region Göteborg
cIP FoRUm 2011 | ProGram
“With the wealth of cities, regions and nations becoming increasingly knowledge-based, networks
and clusters of innovative SmE’s take on an increased responsibility for driving economic growth and
compe titiveness. Business region Göteborg supports this process by building regional business and
industry networks, and views CIP FOrum as a platform for initiating and linking together networks
that remain after the forum and contribute to generating sustainable economic activity.”
jesPer vasell
managing director, Innovation office West
“I see that CIP FOrum has a role to play in illustrating the importance of and supporting the development
towards a modernized and more effectively organized innovation system. If we are to realize maximum
societal benefits from research, we need an innovation system that can offer practice-integrated
innovation perspectives and professional support capabilities for innovation development.”
martin lackéus
Project manager, Gothenburg schools of entrepreneurship, chalmers and University of Gothenburg
"It is with great pleasure that I see this year’s CIP FOrum including also the theme of building entrepreneurial
capacity in the form of action-oriented and highly skilled individuals and interdisciplinary teams.
I regard this as a vital component constituting the lifeblood of any knowledge-intensive innovation
system. The importance of supplying state-of-the-art entrepreneurial education and training is bound
to increase in any society aspiring to sustainably extract value from knowledge."
boWman heiden,
Innovation director, Qatar science & technology Park
“CIP FOrum has endeavored to transcend ideology and buzzwords towards the development of a deep
understanding of how knowledge-based business creates wealth and welfare in society. more than a simple
networking opportunity, the event has aimed to redefine the role of intellectual property, promote a new
inter disciplinary profession, and encourage personal responsibility in building the future success of the
knowledge economy. In the shadow of the financial crises it is more important than ever to show how
the knowledge economy can sustainably align economic incentives with social development and lead by
example.”
ulF Petrusson
Head of department, Institute for Innovation and entrepreneurship, University of
Gothenburg & director cIP
“Perhaps more than anything else, our safe and sustainable transition to the knowledge economy will depend
on our ability to understand, create, and regulate openness. We see this in the challenge of linking
public and private innovation processes, in our use of intellectual property to build wealth and welfare,
and in building bridges between developed, emerging, and developing regions. For over a decade CIP
FOrum has not only studied and promoted open platforms, but has also in itself been a dynamic and
open meeting space where long term networks and initiatives have been initiated.”
cIP FoRUm 2011 | ProGram
cIP FoRUm 2011
is jointly organized by cIP and göteborg & co
center For intellectual ProPerty (ciP)
CIP is a non-profit development center at the intersection of industry
and academia with an overarching aim to generate sustainability by
facilitating business in a knowledge-based society. Founded in a joint
effort between Chalmers university of Technology and the School
of Business, Economics and Law at the university of Gothenburg,
CIP’s mission is to drive and facilitate a shift to an intellectualized
economy for the benefit of industry, academia and society as a whole.
CIP acts in a coordinating role to facilitate innovation in
general, and particularly focuses on the implementation of intellectual
asset management and of regulated openness. In this role, CIP’s
position at the interface of academia and the public and private
spheres enables promotion of research, education and practical
initiatives employing a truly multi-disciplinary approach. Since a
knowledge-based society knows no geographical boundaries and
the infrastructure for knowledge-based business is global, CIP operates
on an international scale.
moreover, building a sustainable knowledge economy requires a
new set of skills at the intersection of management, economics, law,
GöteborG & co
The task of Göteborg & Co is to contribute in developing the
City and adjacent regions as a tourist, meeting and event destination.
Göteborg & Co is a leading platform for international and
national initiatives and programs in its sector. Owned by the City of
Gothenburg, the Gothenburg region and local trade and industry
associations, Göteborg & Co is a dynamic vehicle for mobilizing
different sectors of the society to formulate and implement jointly
shared activities in the interest of the region.
Cooperation with institutions like the university of Gothenburg
and Chalmers university of Technology is a natural part of Göteborg
& Co’s operations. An example is the International Science Festival
that is organized once every year in order to attract the interests of
the public as well as students, to education and research, especially
natural sciences. The Festival generates a significant number of
visitors and active participants.
technology, and design combined with experience of the challenges
for industry, academia, and society at large. CIP also believes that
challenging international issues requiring an open-minded approach
are best addressed by working towards practical results. By
promoting an action-based approach anchored in real-life projects
for education and research activities, CIP is thus combining theory
with practice while fostering development of new tools to shape
knowledge-based business.
Finally, facilitating innovation across disciplines, stakeholder
boundaries and national borders means a constant balancing act between
the interests of actors from industry, academia and the public
sector. It also implies a responsibility to promote a constructive,
sustainable and not least moral development. As an independent
non-profit development center CIP is therefore always committed
to actively anchor its activities in firm ethical standards.
Increasingly attention is given to further develop Gothenburg and
the adjacent regions into a “knowledge city”. The concept is used
to summarize high ambitions at all levels of knowledge production;
from primary school level to cutting edge research.
Göteborg & Co and CIP are jointly organizing CIP FORUM
2011. This effort is to be seen as a clear indication of the City's and
the region's ambition to take an active role in building a sustainable
knowledge economy. Different stakeholders must come
together and actively interact in the processes ahead. Only a creative
and determined commitment by the universities, the corporate
world and the public authorities can create jobs and welfare, global
competiveness and sustainable wealth creation.
STUDenT PaRtIcIPatIoN
Here to help
the ParticiPation oF current students and alumni makes
the CIP FOrum event unique. Students are an integrated part of
the event and are available as sounding boards for discussions about
knowledge-based business.
the educational backGrounds of the participating students
differ, but can broadly be categorized as originally stemming from
business, biomedicine, law and/or technology. The Entrepreneurship
and Business Design educations at Chalmers and university of
Gothenburg consist of the master level educations: Intellectual
Capital management (ICm), Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship
(CSE), Göteborg International Bioscience Business School
(GIBBS) and Knowledge-Based Entrepre neurship (KBE). These
educations offer a wide array of learning within the fields of knowledge
based business development, innovation management and
entrepreneurship.
“In 2009 the Swedish National Agency for Higher
Education ranked the entrepreneurship programs
in Gothenburg as the best in Sweden.”
the core vision oF icm is to educate a new generation of
highly-talented engineers, lawyers, and business managers. ICm
is centered on an award-winning pedagogy consisting of advanced
theoretical concepts, simulated business environments and real life
innovation projects, each designed to increase the understanding
of the construction of knowledge-based business. Throughout
the education ICm students analyze, identify and assess valuable
knowledge assets in knowledge intensive firms, organizations and
universities, as well as develop strategies to maximize the utilization
of these assets within the knowledge based society. Its learning modules
emphasize problem solving, in the context of open innovation
platforms design, brand and patent management, IP strategy creation,
governing of technology standardization governance, license
negotiation as well as contractual design of r&D collaboration,
licensed based business models, franchising and secrecy policies.
cIP FoRUm 2011 | ProGram
Historically, ICm students have been able to test their skills and
capabilities through summer and master thesis work at firms
such as Cargill, CIP Professional Services, Coller IP Capital, the
Dow Chemical Company, Dow Agrosciences, Ericsson, General
Electric, mAQS Law Firm, morphosys, Nestlé, Nokia, PArC,
Philips, PIPrA, Qatar Science and Technology Park, rambus,
Setterwalls, Sun microsystems, ThinkFire, among others.
cse and Gibbs are educational PlatForms which, together
with their dedicated incubation company Encubator AB, are
actively involved in venture creation. Both CSE and GIBBS mix
students with various backgrounds and experiences in cross-
disciplinary teams, GIBBS focusing on bio-entrepreneurs and CSE
on technology entrepreneurs. The first year consists of partly shared
courses with ICm, as well as specialized entrepreneurship courses.
The second year consists of full-time participation in real-life
innovation projects. Through a well-developed screening process,
highly promising projects are selected from external business and
innovation ideas and brought into the platforms. Students work
in groups of two or three in collaboration with the idea providers
(inventors) on the path to commercialization. Each project should
have potential to be funded within a timeframe of 9–12 months.
Since the start in 1997, the schools have generated more than 47
new companies, placing them among the most renowned schools
of entrepreneurship in Europe.
the masters ProGram knoWledGe-based Entrepre neurship
at the School of Business Economics and Law provides students
with insightful knowledge about innovation and entrepreneurship
as well as the skills to turn such knowledge into practice. Students
acquire perspectives, skills and experiences necessary to take on an
entrepreneurial role in whatever position they may find themselves.
Through the learning process students learn to identify venture
opportunities, assess possibilities and problems related to for example
science, technology or market development and implement
a venture creation process.
the themes oF ciP Forum 2011 mirror on-going developments
in knowledge-based business, such as managing collaborative
innovation, a shifting boundary between academic and commercial
research, an emergence of novel technologies, the increased importance
of the entrepreneur and the role of intellectual property as
a driver in the innovation models of the knowledge economy. In
these days, the ability to create, distribute and exploit knowledge
is increasingly central to facilitate wealth creation. With this both
public and private actors are faced with new challenges. Demand
has arisen for the public sector to manage intangibles and on government
to design an intellectual infrastructure that encourages access
to knowledge, and for the private sector to balance societal requirements
and renew business models. In other words, there is a need
for entire nations to review and assess under which conditions a new
infrastructure can emerge, and how this should be managed.
ciP dialoGues
Knowledge is now considered to be the new wealth of nations by
many, but what does this really mean in relation to the future of
universities, industry and society? How will traditional universities
and industry transform to meet the new demands placed on them
by an increasingly globalized and competitive world? What role
will the nation state play for wealth and welfare in a society where
knowledge and capital flows across borders? In essence then, who
will carry the responsibility for economic and social development
in the knowledge economy?
To support increasingly collaborative forms of innovative value
creation, CIP FOrum 2011 presents CIP Dialogues; an arena
where opinions can be voiced and new ideas and solutions can
be discussed. World-leading experts from all corners of the world
representing a broad spectrum of disciplines will be on stage to
participate in discussions centered on the importance of a new infrastructure
adapted to knowledge-based business with a strong
focus on the developmental challenges faced by nations.
CIP Dialogues will approach these challenges for the New
Wealth of Nations and highlight questions that are on everyone’s
mind, divulging the opportunities and doubts about the future of
the knowledge economy.
ciP Forum 2011 Focuses on the New Wealth of Nations and
the theme of constructing public/private innovation infrastructure
is at the core of this theme. The theme will explore international
research collaborations and the creation of platforms to ensure innovation.
The theme will cover the significance of, and the need for,
a new infra structure – especially around universities – adapted to
knowledge-based business, which will enable knowledge generation,
knowledge acquisition and knowledge utilization. Focus topics in
the sessions will include the important role of public financiers in
ensuring utilization and the operative roles of intermediaries between
science and business – often manifested in the form of science parks,
and the collaborative and entrepreneurial functioning of university
technology transfer offices. The aim of the theme is to explore different
levels that constitute and construct public/private innovation
infrastructure and how they interrelate at the levels of policy, of financiers,
of intermediaries and universities.
• larGe-scale collaborative innovation –
will address the current trends towards an increasingly fierce
international knowledge-market and how coordinated European
initiatives across stakeholder, discipline and regional barriers
may be the key instruments to ensure long-term European
competitiveness and sustainability.
• Public FundinG to ensure eFFective utili-
Zation focuses on the role of public research funding regarding
the utilization of research. The background to this focus
is that funding agencies over a long period of time have been
increasing their demands and expectations on research projects
from an innovation and utilization perspective. Key questions
that will be discussed are: What role do funding agencies have
for utilization of research? How can funding agencies stimulate
research utilization and how for the utilization of research
followed up?
• Public/Private collaborative innovation
in Practice focuses on the operative roles of intermediaries
between science and business. In particular the intermediary
role of science parks will be discussed. The aim is to explore
how science parks constitute and construct one part of public/
private innovation infrastructure and how they interrelate with
the levels of policy, research financiers and universities.
• university technoloGy transFer – toWard
entrepreneurial functioning of university technology transfer offices.
recent developments in particular in Europe are explored
and compared to the impact stemming from wide-spread international
convergence of regulations based on uS models, giving
universities the rights and duty to commercialize research.
business leaders must vieW intellectual property management
as a core business process, and in turn, IP professionals must
view IP within the context of how it creates business value. In both
regards this will demand an entrepreneurial effort on both sides to
overcome the inertia of the industrial modus operandi. The theme
of Driving Innovation through Intellectual Property management
will explore new strategic ways in which IP can be used to build
business through open innovation at various levels. The theme will
build on and enhance previous discussions and question the sustainability
of knowledge-based business models and how the business use
of IP affects not only the bottom line but the incentives of others
to oppose IP, regulate its future use, and potentially eliminate its
existence. more than ever we can see that there is no IP without
there should be no doubt that the world is perceived as
becoming increasingly more volatile, uncertain and complex,
and that this trend is expected to continue. Within the theme of
managing complex innovation-based business, participants at CIP
FOrum 2011 will explore how both public and private actors deal
with an increasingly complex innovation landscape characterized
by industry convergence, increasingly rapid product life-cycles, and
near-instant global access to knowledge and innovation.
What capabilities and tools are needed to successfully benefit
from collaborative research and development? What are open innovation
and open business models, when you go beneath the surface
of the buzzwords? How do large, traditional companies transform
themselves and their business models to meet new challenges? How
can SmE’s design their business models to prepare for rapid scalability,
and how can they come up with and test the assumptions
that will help them redefine their business as they and their contexts
evolve? These are some of the questions that will be discussed in the
four sessions during monday and Tuesday afternoon.
• larGe-scale collaborative innovation –
Why it Will build euroPe’s Future comPetitiveness
focuses on creating and managing complex innovation-based
business from the European perspective. It will
address the current trends towards an increasingly fierce international
knowledge-market and how coordinated European initiatives
across stakeholder, discipline and regional barriers may be
the key instruments to ensure long-term European competitiveness
and sustainability
• transForminG 20th century industry into
21st century knoWledGe based business
focuses on how companies within traditional manufacturing
industries are meeting the pressure to become increasingly
knowledge and service-centric. The session will discuss the challenges
and provide illustrative examples of companies which
have, in one way or another, made significant changes to their
business model and/or organization in order to achieve higher
leverage in internal know-how and expertise.
• the Future oF the knoWledGe-based Firm:
are knoWledGe-based business models
sustainable?
The term knowledge-based business is used ambiguously in
many settings with disparate meanings. In this session we will
define knowledge-based business as business where knowledge
as such is packaged and transacted (e.g. through licensing IP, IT
solutions or services) and discuss whether business models that
only transact knowledge are sustainable.
• research-based sme’s – choosinG the nonobvious
Path. Very few, if any, start-up companies find
their sustainable and scalable business model with their first
attempt. The reality is that start-ups and SmE’s must constantly
come up with and test new assumptions to survive and arrive at
business models that can survive both expansion and evolving
markets. unlike established, larger, already profitable companies,
SmE’s tend to be highly financially constrained in their
freedom to explore new alternative business options. The session
will explore what it is that drives but also what might prevent the
discovery of new and sometimes unexpected business models.
What can we learn from SmE’s that are in the middle of finding
scalable business models? How do they find ways to create and
capture value?
enTRePReneURSHIP IN a GloBal
kNoWledGe ecoNomY
entrePreneurshiP in a Global knoWledGe economy,
deals with entrepreneurial activity to build new innovation, as well as
infrastructure that will foster entrepreneurial behavior in a knowledge
economy. Entrepreneurship in a knowledge economy will include
much more than encouraging start-up ventures. It will encompass
social, academic, corporate as well as institutional entrepreneurship.
This is increasingly seen as a collective rather than an individual responsibility,
and the importance of individuals, their networks and
their “outside the box” behavior needs to be appreciated.
many global challenges such as the fundamental need for clean
drinking water and access to information require a social entrepreneurship
carried out in NGOs, private ventures or other means, in
order to be successfully tackled. In this way social entrepreneurship,
particularly with the engagement and involvement of prominent individuals,
can help build and shape the infrastructure that the developed
world typically takes for granted.
The educational system on all levels is a promising key infrastructure
for developing entrepreneurial behavior. Within the system
we find students and academic entrepreneurs who champion new
solutions, and the system can offer entrepreneurial training while
participating in the active realization of new ideas. Through nurturing
entrepreneurship in both established and emerging business,
universities in particular can promote the adoption of new, more
sustainable technologies, and thus help industry break with less sustainable
path dependencies.
• the role oF the knoWledGe Worker/the next
Generation leadershiP.
This theme will investigate the challenges for the individual
working in a knowledge-based economy. In particular, it will
highlight the role of the entrepreneur, and what this role entails
in the context of the knowledge economy. What new demands
are placed on the employers of ‘knowledge workers,’ and how
can firms manage their most important assets when knowledge
is both input and output? How will the role and responsibility of
the individual change when driving business forward becomes
an entrepreneurial challenge?
• entrePreneurshiP in science: intellectual
asset aPProach.
This session will investigate the entrepreneurial potential inherent
in universities and how an intellectual asset approach has
the potential to visualize, define and find the entrepreneurial
potential in research project, even when the project vision is
far from any commercial application. This session will lift up
examples from entrepreneurial activities inside academia, large
scale industry and smaller ventures.
• knoWledGe based entrePreneurshiP to
solve Global Problems – Focus on Water.
The issue of water is a critical one. The innovations in the field
of water management will influence the very future of South
Africa as well as Sub-Sahara. The session will focus on aspects
of ongoing innovation processess and projects.
• educatinG entrePreneurs For a knoW ledGe
economy.
This session will examine entrepreneurship education with a
starting point in three constructs – cognition, affection and
conation – as building blocks of successful entrepreneurship
educations. The school system holds great potential in contributing
to the development of new entrepreneurs and being a key
infrastructure for enabling entrepreneurial behavior. Within it,
we find students and academic entrepreneurs who champion
new solutions, and the system can offer entrepreneurial training
while participating in the actual realization of new ideas.
Through nurturing entrepreneurship in both established and
emerging business, universities in particular can promote the
adoption of new, more sustainable technologies, and thus help
industry break with less sustainable path dependencies.
ciP Forum Gathers a unique combination of international
thought leaders from government, business and academia. The
event not only establishes a community for knowledge transfer
and development, but it also offers participants physical venues –
so-called roundtable discussions – to sit down in private to discuss
and determine the way forward in The New Wealth of Nations together
with other actors, networks, clusters or decision makers. CIP
FOrum therefore equips its participants with the frameworks,
capabilities and tools needed for advancing participants’ knowledge-based
business and provides an arena for decision making and
setting the roadmap moving forward.
Building on the experience from previous CIP FOrum events,
we know that new insights and ideas emerge among the participants
during inspiring talks in plenary sessions, specialization themes and
workshops. We therefore see it as crucial to offer the opportunity
for participants to reserve and set up private meetings either for
their internal networks or together with other participants.
Transportation
WalkinG. In Gothenburg, almost everything is within walking
distance. Thanks to the favorable location of the Swedish
Exhibition Centre, most delegates will be able to walk from their
hotels to the exhibition centre or take advantage of the extensive
and reliable public transportation system.
Public transPort system. Gothenburg has a well organized public
transport network that consists of three types of vehicles; trams,
buses and boats. Travel cards and tickets are available from several locations,
e.g. the Pressbyrån shop outside the Swedish Exhibition Centre.
airPort buses. The bus from Gothenburg Landvetter Airport
stops right outside the Swedish Exhibition Centre/Hotel Gothia.
The bus from Gothenburg City Airport stops at the Central Station
(Nils Ericson Terminal) where tram lines, buses or taxis are available
for quick access to any hotel.
ciP Forum shuttle service. Shuttle buses are available, free
of charge, for all transport between CIP FORUM conferense venues
and social events. For detailed information see separate shuttle bus
Cooperation between CTH, GU, Sahlgrenska university Hospital,
contacts and collaborative projects with partners abroad.
the GothenburG reGion is an imPortant area for trade and
shipping much owing to its advantageous location in the center of
Scandinavia. Apart from trade, the second pillar of Gothenburg has
traditionally been manufacturing and an industry that significantly
has contributed to the city’s wealth. As a few examples, the city is the
hometown of well-known companies such as AstraZeneca, Ericsson
Omeprazole (brand name: Losec) is just one example of the significant
role that the interplay between the industry and academia
