karin markides, President, Chalmers University of
Technology
Karin Markides, professor of analytical chemistry, previously
taught and conducted research at Stockholm
University and Uppsala University . As part of her broad
international experience, she held a guest professorship
at Stanford University in the US . She has tutored
more than 30 PhD students and published more than
250 scientific articles . As of 1999 and 1992 respectively,
she is a member of The Royal Swedish Academy of
Sciences and The Royal Swedish Academy of engineering
Sciences . between April 2004 and August 2006,
Professor Markides held the position of deputy director
general at VInnoVA, a state agency that finances
research and innovation for sustainable development .
She also held memberships in the government Research
Advisory committee and the Swedish Research council
committee for Research Infrastructure as well as acted
as a board member of the Swedish Foundation for
Strategic Research .
karl Palmås, researcher in social entrepreneurship
at MORE, Chalmers University of Technology
Karl Palmås is a researcher in social entrepreneurship at
moRe, chalmers . He holds an mSc from chalmers and
a PhD from the london School of economics & Political
Science, and currently manages a three-year research
project that explores how social entrepreneurs participate
in the spread of organic farming in Sri Lanka.
kasim alFalahi, CIPO, Ericsson
Kasim Alfalahi has been vice president and chief IP
Officer at Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson since June
2005 . mr . Alfalahi is responsible for ericsson’s patent
licensing and patent development worldwide . He joined
ericsson in 1995 as a product manager of IP rights, responsible
for patenting in the area of mobile systems for
north America . In 1999 he was appointed director of
patent licensing – a business that he was instrumental
in establishing within the ericsson group . In this role, he
was a key contributor to the transformation of Ericsson’s
patenting - taking it from being a net-payer to a netreceiver
of royalty income . mr . Alfalahi received his mSc
in engineering and management from Linköping Institute
of Technology, Sweden in 1995 .
kaZumasa soGa, Professor, Tokyo University
Dr . Kazumasa is the Professor at the Faculty of law and
Graduate School of Law at Tokyo University, Japan specializing
in Intellectual Property law and Jurisprudence .
His previous appointments include Professor at the
Faculty of engineering and graduate School of natural
Science, and the Head of International Department
at Kumamoto University Innovative collaboration
organisation (KIco) engaging in IP related projects .
He holds a bSc from nagoya University, an llm degree
from Stockholm University and a PhD from University of
london . He has several honors to his credit and has been
actively publishing in the area of intellectual property .
keith berGelt, CEO, Open Invention Network
Keith bergelt is the ceo of the open Invention
Network, based in Durham, NC, USA. The Open
Invention Network is a company that was formed to
promote linux by using patents to create a collaborative
environment . Prior to joining the open Invention
Network, Mr. Bergelt served as president and CEO of
two hedge funds formed to enable IP rights as collateral
in asset-based loans . In addition, mr . bergelt has
held several senior and managerial positions within intellectual
property, business development and technology
investment .
kjell-håkan närFelt, Chief Strategy Officer
within Swedish Innovation System, VINNOVA
laurent mieville, Head of Technology Transfer,
University of Geneva
laurent mieville is the Founder and the Head of
the Technology Transfer office at the University of
geneva . He is the immediate past President of the
european Association of Science and Technology
Transfer Professionals (ASTP) and co-founder of the
Swiss Technology Transfer association (SWITT) . He is
also a board member of clP Inc ., a not for profit body
that provides certification for licensed professionals .
Additionally he worked at Stanford University as group
leader and at the early stage Silicon Valley start-up company,
conductus . laurent has a degree in Physics from
the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in lausanne and
a PhD from University of Geneva. He recently took a
year‘s sabbatical from his work to co-write a book on
technology transfer entitled “From Science to business” .
laWrence bickers, Investment Manager at Coller
Capital
Lawrence Bickers is responsible for the operation of the
Ventures and Intellectual Property (IP) group within
coller capital since 2007, with a focus on the technical
due diligence of IP acquisitions. Lawrence was previously
Vice President of european Partnerships at IPvalue (a US
based IP license firm) and Head of licensing at british
Telecom (BT). Lawrence has a background in Research and
Development and holds 5 patents and has published over
50 technical papers and has held visiting Professorships at
manchester metropolitan University . He also sits on the industrial
advisory board for bangor University . He has a bSc
from bangor University and an mSc from essex University .
liisa eWart, Senior Legal Counsel, Tekes
Liisa Ewart is the Senior Legal Counsel at Tekes, the Finnish
Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation . Prior to this,
she has worked as an Attorney at Law at Liisa Ewart law
firm, managing the firm for over 12 years . In her present
position at Tekes she works with legal matters of public research
funding and public-private partnerships . She is a legal
National Contact Point for the Framework Programme
7 and a Finnish delegate for Administrative and Finance
committee of eSA . liisa has an ImbA degree from Instituto
de empresa and a master of law from Turun yliopisto .

lin Weichang is the deputy governor of The People’s
government Panyu District guangzhou city, Director of

lucas hulsmann, Associate Director EMEA
Global Business Development - Transactions at Procter and
Gamble
lucas Hulsmann has made his career within Procter
and Gamble, previously working as head of finance
for P&gs ceemeA supply chain organization, as well
as being a part of the company’s global laundry and
cleaning Strategic Plannning group . His current position
is based in geneva, Switzerland . mr . Hulsmann
is German, but has studied and worked in various
european countries .
luis sanZ, Director General, IASP
luis Sanz is Director general of the International
Association of Science Parks since 1996, and member
of its executive board . A trained sociologist, he is an expert
consultant and senior adviser to different Science
Parks worldwide and chief co-ordinator of over 27 international
conferences on Science and Technology Parks,
regional development and innovation policies . He is the
author of numerous papers, books, articles and presentations
on this topic and has participated as invited speaker
in over 90 international conferences and seminars all
over the world . Formerly he was the co-director of
Valencia Technology Park which he founded in 1987 and
as positions of trust he has been Vice-President of the
Spanish Association of Science Parks and President of the
european Division of the IASP .
luke e. mumba, Coordinator, NEPAD Planning &
Coordinating Agency Regional Centres & Initiatives &
Director, Southern Africa Network for Biosciences (SANBio)
Prof . mumba comes from the nePAD Planning and
coordinating Agency (nPcA), a technical body of the
Africa Union based in South Africa . nPcA’s core mandate
is to facilitate and coordinate the implementation
of regional and continental priority programmes and
projects . He holds two Portfolios: (1) coordinator of
the nePAD Regional centres and Initiatives, a consortium
of five sub-regional biosciences centres distrusted
throughout Africa. Two new Networks have been established
to focus on Water Sciences in Southern Africa
and West Africa . (2) He is also the founding Director for
one of the five biosciences networks called the Southern
Africa Network for Biosciences (SANBio) which has a
Secretariat at the cSIR in Pretoria . Prof . mumba holds
a PhD in Plant genetics from University of Wales; mSc
in molecular genetics from University of Wales; and a
bSc in biology & chemistry from zambia . He still retains
his Professorship of genetics in the Department of
biological Sciences at the University of zambia .
maGnus lundin, CEO, SiSP
magnus lundin is the ceo and managing Director at
SiSP – Swedish incubators & Science Parks, the member
organization for Sweden’s 70 incubators and science
parks. He has an entrepreneurial background and has
held various roles as a founder, seed investor, ceo of
a venture capital funded university start up in medical
nanotechnology, business consultant, incubator manager,
has founded and chaired the board of a venture capital
fund and comes most recently from a four year period
as CEO and Managing Director of Västerås Science Park,
one of Sweden’s larger innovation actors . magnus holds

marGareta Wallin Peterson, Pro-Vice
Chancellor, University of Gothenburg & Chairman, CIP
Since 2004, margareta Wallin Peterson has served as
Pro-Vice-chancellor at the University of gothenburg
with a special focus on external relations and innovation
efforts . She is a member of the University’s management
Team and the Vice-chancellor’s management council .
margareta is Professor of zoophysiology and has served
as Vice Head of Department at the Department of
zoology as well as Vice Dean and Associate Dean at
the Faculty of Science, University of gothenburg . She
also has external assignments at Jönköping University,
Aarhus University, Universeum Ab and the nordens
Ark Foundation, to name a few. At the University of
gothenburg, she is the chair of the Vice-chancellor’s
committee on external Relations, of the University of
gothenburg’s holding company gU Holding, and of the
Institute for Innovation and entrepreneurship . She is also
the chairman of the center for Intellectual Property, cIP .
maria anvret, FRCPath, Senior Advisor, Research
and External Relations at University of Gothenburg.
Professor maria Anvret obtained her PhD at the
Karolinska Institute (KI) in 1978, did a postdoc at Yale
University in USA, held a research position at the
University of gothenburg (1980–1985) and holds a professorship
in neurogenetics from the Karolinska Institute.
Dr Anvret has published over 200 scientific articles and
has a broad experience in supervising PhD students .
During her time at Astrazeneca (1997–2005) she was
heavily involved in topics of strategic importance to
management . During 2005–2007 Dr Anvret was a member
of KI management and headed the Strategy office
at the Karolinska Institute.. She was (2007–2010) the
spokesman for science- and innovation politics within the
confederation of Swedish enterprise . She serves at a
number of boards, and is a member of the Royal Swedish
Academy of engineering Sciences (IVA) .

Martin Lackéus is the project manager for the Gothenburg
Schools of entrepreneurship, chalmers University of
Technology and University of gothenburg, as well as a researcher
at both universities . He has previous experience
of venture creation and management, notably as the ceo
of the successful vehicle communications start-up Vehco
Ab . martin is currently pursuing his PhD in Technology
management and economics at chalmers University of

mary matheW, Associate Professor at the

Dr mary mathew is an Associate Professor at the
Department of management Studies, Indian Institute
of Science (IISc) . She is also an Associate Faculty at the
centre for Product Design and manufacturing at IISc .
Her Ph .D from IISc (1996) is in the area of organization
change and Technology management . ms . mathew’s
research interests are in the areas of measuring R&D
productivity, knowledge management and behavioral dynamics
of inventors, prior art analysis, IP based university
start ups, university IP policy, patent pricing, and product
solutions for mobile based payment systems . At IISc additionally,
she is also a Resource executive of the Society
of Innovation Development the university industry office
of IISc where she negotiates with companies for IISc’s
intellectual property and mentors IISc’s start ups .
maryann Feldman, S.K. Heninger Distinguished
Chair in Public Policy, University of North Carolina, Chapel
Hill
maryann Feldman is the S .K . Heninger Distinguished
chair in Public Policy at the University of north carolina,
chapel Hill . Her research and teaching interests focus on
the areas of innovation, the commercialization of academic
research and the factors that promote technological
change and economic growth . Previously, Dr . Feldman
held the miller Distinguished chair in Higher education at
the University of georgia (2006–2008) and the Jeffery S .
Skoll Chair in Technical Innovation and Entrepreneurship
and Professor of business economics at the Rotman
School of management, University of Toronto (2002-
2006) . Dr . Feldman has served on the Advisory Panel
for the U .S . national Science Foundation's Program
on Societal Dimensions of engineering, Science and
Technology . She holds a master’s degree in management
and Policy Analysis and a PhD in economics and
management from carnegie mellon University .

Park
mats bergh, President/ceo of Johanneberg Science
Park, holds an M Sc in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D.
degree in Semiconductor Physics, both from chalmers
University of Technology. Dr. Bergh has worked for
Swedish Defense industry, including start- up of new
subsidiaries, and has also a background from being a
technical/management consultant, providing him with
experiences from other business areas such as automotive,
engineering, telecommunications and energy . He has
been Director at chalmers University of Technology
with special focus on develop fundraising organization
and activities . Dr . bergh was prior to his current position
Vice President of RISe Holding the holding company for
the major Swedish research institutes research institutes
and a part of the Swedish ministry of Finance .
mats lundqvist, Director, the Chalmers School of

Mats Lundqvist is the current and long-standing director
of chalmers School of entrepreneurship (cSe), as well
as one of the co-founders of the school, back in 1997,
and sits on the board of directors at encubator Ab . mats
has a history of entrepreneurial activity on both the venture
level and institutional level and sits on the boards
of various companies, incubators, development organizations
and programs . He holds an mSc and a PhD, both
from chalmers University of Technology and is heavily
involved in building university-based innovation systems,
locally, regionally, and nationally .
michael lubitZ, CEO & Chairman Global
Technology Transfer Group
michael lubitz is the chairman/ceo of gTT group, a
global patent brokerage and patent transaction advisory
firm . He also is responsible for and chairs gTT group’s
valuation practice . mr . lubitz is the originator of the
Patent Market Index or PMI which is widely regarded
as the benchmark economic index for patent transaction
activity within the United States . Prior to starting
what would become gTT group in 1997, mr . lubitz
was in-house counsel to Kyocera Industrial ceramics
corporation and then patent counsel to Shin-etsu
Handotai America . mr . lubitz has a bachelor of Science
in general business with an emphasis in Japanese from
Arizona State University . He received his Juris Doctor
from the University of San Diego, School of law . At
the University of San Diego he received the American
Jurisprudence Award for his work in Ethics and Secured
Transactions and served as an Associate editor of the
Journal for contemporary legal Issues .
olle WästberG, fm Director-General, Swedish
Institute, Chairman of STINT (The Swedish Foundation
for International Cooperation in Research and Higher
Education)
olle Wästberg is a journalist, politician and diplomat who
most recently served as the Director-general of the
Swedish Institute (SI) and is now the government co-ordinator
for the Raoul Wallenberg Year 2012 . From 1999
to 2004, Wästberg was consul-general of Sweden in
New York City. Prior to these appointments, he held the
positions of editor-in-chief of the newspaper expressen,
State Secretary at the Swedish ministry of Finance and a
member of Swedish parliament . He has also held several
board appointments including the Swedish broadcasting
corporation and the Sweden-America foundation . He
received a bachelor’s degree in political science and economic
history from Stockholm University in 1972.
Pam Fredman, Vice-Chancellor, University of
Gothenburg
Pam Fredman is the vice-chancellor of The University of
gothenburg since 2006 . She currently also holds several
executive positions – as a chairman of the Association
of Swedish Higher education(SHU), council member of
european University Association( eUA), member of the
EUA Research Policy Working Group(RPWG) and Chair
of the nordic University Association(nUS) . She is also a
professor in neurochemistry .

Paul van dun, General Manager, K.U. Leuven
Research & Development
Paul Van Dun is general manager of K .U .leuven
Research & Development and managing director of
gemma Frisius- Fonds K .U .leuven nV, the university
venture fund . He is also member of the board of directors
of several spin-off companies and investment
funds. In 1991 he joined KPMG, after which he took
up a position with Investco/LPM, the private equity
and venture unit of Kbc group, where he was active
in portfolio management, legal issues and acquisitions.
