karin markides, President, Chalmers University of<br />
Technology<br />
Karin Markides, professor of analytical chemistry, previously<br />
taught and conducted research at Stockholm<br />
University and Uppsala University . As part of her broad<br />
international experience, she held a guest professorship<br />
at Stanford University in the US . She has tutored<br />
more than 30 PhD students and published more than<br />
250 scientific articles . As of 1999 and 1992 respectively,<br />
she is a member of The Royal Swedish Academy of<br />
Sciences and The Royal Swedish Academy of engineering<br />
Sciences . between April 2004 and August 2006,<br />
Professor Markides held the position of deputy director<br />
general at VInnoVA, a state agency that finances<br />
research and innovation for sustainable development .<br />
She also held memberships in the government Research<br />
Advisory committee and the Swedish Research council<br />
committee for Research Infrastructure as well as acted<br />
as a board member of the Swedish Foundation for<br />
Strategic Research .<br />
karl Palmås, researcher in social entrepreneurship<br />

Karl Palmås is a researcher in social entrepreneurship at<br />
moRe, chalmers . He holds an mSc from chalmers and<br />
a PhD from the london School of economics & Political<br />
Science, and currently manages a three-year research<br />
project that explores how social entrepreneurs participate<br />
in the spread of organic farming in Sri Lanka.<br />
kasim alFalahi, <strong>CIP</strong>O, Ericsson<br />
Kasim Alfalahi has been vice president and chief IP<br />
Officer at Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson since June<br />
2005 . mr . Alfalahi is responsible for ericsson’s patent<br />
licensing and patent development worldwide . He joined<br />
ericsson in 1995 as a product manager of IP rights, responsible<br />
for patenting in the area of mobile systems for<br />
north America . In 1999 he was appointed director of<br />
patent licensing – a business that he was instrumental<br />
in establishing within the ericsson group . In this role, he<br />
was a key contributor to the transformation of Ericsson’s<br />
patenting - taking it from being a net-payer to a netreceiver<br />
of royalty income . mr . Alfalahi received his mSc<br />
in engineering and management from Linköping Institute<br />
of Technology, Sweden in 1995 .<br />
kaZumasa soGa, Professor, Tokyo University<br />
Dr . Kazumasa is the Professor at the Faculty of law and<br />
Graduate School of Law at Tokyo University, Japan specializing<br />
in Intellectual Property law and Jurisprudence .<br />
His previous appointments include Professor at the<br />
Faculty of engineering and graduate School of natural<br />
Science, and the Head of International Department<br />
at Kumamoto University Innovative collaboration<br />
organisation (KIco) engaging in IP related projects .<br />
He holds a bSc from nagoya University, an llm degree<br />
from Stockholm University and a PhD from University of<br />
london . He has several honors to his credit and has been<br />
actively publishing in the area of intellectual property .<br />
keith berGelt, CEO, Open Invention Network<br />
Keith bergelt is the ceo of the open Invention<br />
Network, based in Durham, NC, USA. The Open<br />
Invention Network is a company that was formed to<br />
promote linux by using patents to create a collaborative<br />
environment . Prior to joining the open Invention<br />
Network, Mr. Bergelt served as president and CEO of<br />
two hedge funds formed to enable IP rights as collateral<br />
in asset-based loans . In addition, mr . bergelt has<br />
held several senior and managerial positions within intellectual<br />
property, business development and technology<br />

laurent mieville, Head of Technology Transfer,<br />
University of Geneva<br />
laurent mieville is the Founder and the Head of<br />
the Technology Transfer office at the University of<br />
geneva . He is the immediate past President of the<br />
european Association of Science and Technology<br />
Transfer Professionals (ASTP) and co-founder of the<br />
Swiss Technology Transfer association (SWITT) . He is<br />
also a board member of clP Inc ., a not for profit body<br />
that provides certification for licensed professionals .<br />
Additionally he worked at Stanford University as group<br />
leader and at the early stage Silicon Valley start-up company,<br />
conductus . laurent has a degree in Physics from<br />
the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in lausanne and<br />
a PhD from University of Geneva. He recently took a<br />
year‘s sabbatical from his work to co-write a book on<br />

laWrence bickers, Investment Manager at Coller<br />
Capital<br />
Lawrence Bickers is responsible for the operation of the<br />
Ventures and Intellectual Property (IP) group within<br />
coller capital since 2007, with a focus on the technical<br />
due diligence of IP acquisitions. Lawrence was previously<br />
Vice President of european Partnerships at IPvalue (a US<br />
based IP license firm) and Head of licensing at british<br />
Telecom (BT). Lawrence has a background in Research and<br />
Development and holds 5 patents and has published over<br />
50 technical papers and has held visiting Professorships at<br />
manchester metropolitan University . He also sits on the industrial<br />
advisory board for bangor University . He has a bSc<br />

liisa eWart, Senior Legal Counsel, Tekes<br />
Liisa Ewart is the Senior Legal Counsel at Tekes, the Finnish<br />
Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation . Prior to this,<br />
she has worked as an Attorney at Law at Liisa Ewart law<br />
firm, managing the firm for over 12 years . In her present<br />
position at Tekes she works with legal matters of public research<br />
funding and public-private partnerships . She is a legal<br />
National Contact Point for the Framework Programme<br />
7 and a Finnish delegate for Administrative and Finance<br />
committee of eSA . liisa has an ImbA degree from Instituto<br />
de empresa and a master of law from Turun yliopisto .<br />

lucas Hulsmann has made his career within Procter<br />
and Gamble, previously working as head of finance<br />
for P&gs ceemeA supply chain organization, as well<br />
as being a part of the company’s global laundry and<br />
cleaning Strategic Plannning group . His current position<br />
is based in geneva, Switzerland . mr . Hulsmann<br />
is German, but has studied and worked in various<br />

luis sanZ, Director General, IASP<br />
luis Sanz is Director general of the International<br />
Association of Science Parks since 1996, and member<br />
of its executive board . A trained sociologist, he is an expert<br />
consultant and senior adviser to different Science<br />
Parks worldwide and chief co-ordinator of over 27 international<br />
conferences on Science and Technology Parks,<br />
regional development and innovation policies . He is the<br />
author of numerous papers, books, articles and presentations<br />
on this topic and has participated as invited speaker<br />
in over 90 international conferences and seminars all<br />
over the world . Formerly he was the co-director of<br />
Valencia Technology Park which he founded in 1987 and<br />

luke e. mumba, Coordinator, NEPAD Planning &<br />
Coordinating Agency Regional Centres & Initiatives &<br />
Director, Southern Africa Network for Biosciences (SANBio)<br />
Prof . mumba comes from the nePAD Planning and<br />
coordinating Agency (nPcA), a technical body of the<br />
Africa Union based in South Africa . nPcA’s core mandate<br />
is to facilitate and coordinate the implementation<br />
of regional and continental priority programmes and<br />
projects . He holds two Portfolios: (1) coordinator of<br />
the nePAD Regional centres and Initiatives, a consortium<br />
of five sub-regional biosciences centres distrusted<br />
throughout Africa. Two new Networks have been established<br />
to focus on Water Sciences in Southern Africa<br />
and West Africa . (2) He is also the founding Director for<br />
one of the five biosciences networks called the Southern<br />
Africa Network for Biosciences (SANBio) which has a<br />
Secretariat at the cSIR in Pretoria . Prof . mumba holds<br />
a PhD in Plant genetics from University of Wales; mSc<br />
in molecular genetics from University of Wales; and a<br />
bSc in biology & chemistry from zambia . He still retains<br />
his Professorship of genetics in the Department of<br />
biological Sciences at the University of zambia .<br />

magnus lundin is the ceo and managing Director at<br />
SiSP – Swedish incubators & Science Parks, the member<br />
organization for Sweden’s 70 incubators and science<br />
parks. He has an entrepreneurial background and has<br />
held various roles as a founder, seed investor, ceo of<br />
a venture capital funded university start up in medical<br />
nanotechnology, business consultant, incubator manager,<br />
has founded and chaired the board of a venture capital<br />
fund and comes most recently from a four year period<br />
as CEO and Managing Director of Västerås Science Park,<br />

Since 2004, margareta Wallin Peterson has served as<br />
Pro-Vice-chancellor at the University of gothenburg<br />
with a special focus on external relations and innovation<br />
efforts . She is a member of the University’s management<br />
Team and the Vice-chancellor’s management council .<br />
margareta is Professor of zoophysiology and has served<br />
as Vice Head of Department at the Department of<br />

maria anvret, FRCPath, Senior Advisor, Research<br />
and External Relations at University of Gothenburg.<br />
Professor maria Anvret obtained her PhD at the<br />
Karolinska Institute (KI) in 1978, did a postdoc at Yale<br />
University in USA, held a research position at the<br />
University of gothenburg (1980–1985) and holds a professorship<br />
in neurogenetics from the Karolinska Institute.<br />
Dr Anvret has published over 200 scientific articles and<br />
has a broad experience in supervising PhD students .<br />
During her time at Astrazeneca (1997–2005) she was<br />
heavily involved in topics of strategic importance to<br />
management . During 2005–2007 Dr Anvret was a member<br />
of KI management and headed the Strategy office<br />
at the Karolinska Institute.. She was (2007–2010) the<br />
spokesman for science- and innovation politics within the<br />
confederation of Swedish enterprise . She serves at a<br />
number of boards, and is a member of the Royal Swedish<br />

Martin Lackéus is the project manager for the Gothenburg<br />

maryann Feldman is the S .K . Heninger Distinguished<br />
chair in Public Policy at the University of north carolina,<br />
chapel Hill . Her research and teaching interests focus on<br />
the areas of innovation, the commercialization of academic<br />
research and the factors that promote technological<br />
change and economic growth . Previously, Dr . Feldman<br />
held the miller Distinguished chair in Higher education at<br />

Mats Lundqvist is the current and long-standing director<br />
of chalmers School of entrepreneurship (cSe), as well<br />
as one of the co-founders of the school, back in 1997,<br />

has a history of entrepreneurial activity on both the venture<br />
level and institutional level and sits on the boards<br />

michael lubitz is the chairman/ceo of gTT group, a<br />
global patent brokerage and patent transaction advisory<br />
firm . He also is responsible for and chairs gTT group’s<br />
valuation practice . mr . lubitz is the originator of the<br />
Patent Market Index or PMI which is widely regarded<br />
as the benchmark economic index for patent transaction<br />
activity within the United States . Prior to starting<br />

olle WästberG, fm Director-General, Swedish<br />
Institute, Chairman of STINT (The Swedish Foundation<br />
for International Cooperation in Research and Higher<br />
Education)<br />
olle Wästberg is a journalist, politician and diplomat who<br />
most recently served as the Director-general of the<br />
Swedish Institute (SI) and is now the government co-ordinator<br />
for the Raoul Wallenberg Year 2012 . From 1999<br />
to 2004, Wästberg was consul-general of Sweden in<br />
New York City. Prior to these appointments, he held the<br />
positions of editor-in-chief of the newspaper expressen,<br />
State Secretary at the Swedish ministry of Finance and a<br />
member of Swedish parliament . He has also held several<br />
board appointments including the Swedish broadcasting<br />
corporation and the Sweden-America foundation . He<br />
received a bachelor’s degree in political science and economic<br />
history from Stockholm University in 1972.<br />

Pam Fredman is the vice-chancellor of The University of<br />
gothenburg since 2006 . She currently also holds several<br />
executive positions – as a chairman of the Association<br />
of Swedish Higher education(SHU), council member of<br />
european University Association( eUA), member of the<br />
EUA Research Policy Working Group(RPWG) and Chair<br />
of the nordic University Association(nUS) . She is also a<br />
professor in neurochemistry .<br />

Paul Van Dun is general manager of K .U .leuven<br />
Research & Development and managing director of<br />
gemma Frisius- Fonds K .U .leuven nV, the university<br />
venture fund . He is also member of the board of directors<br />
of several spin-off companies and investment<br />
funds. In 1991 he joined KPMG, after which he took<br />
up a position with Investco/LPM, the private equity<br />
and venture unit of Kbc group, where he was active<br />
in portfolio management, legal issues and acquisitions.<br />
Paul has a law degree from K .U .leuven, a degree in<br />
