Fundraising Day
4 Animals
29th – 30th September
Wetnose Animal Aid is a small, dedicated,
not-for-profit organisation that raises money
to support animal rescue centres in the UK.
We donate money specifically for animal
rescues that don’t get the support they
valuably need, to help cover payments for
essential requirements such as feed and
vet bills.
Every year we hold our national fundraising
event, called “Wetnose Day” – one theme for
this year is to invite schools to hold an animal
fundraising day, so why not think of activities
you could hold at your school, such as: face
painting, drawing different animals that are
cared for in Rescue Centres, fancy dress,
holding a cake sale, writing a story or reading
animal poems, better still, do something
completely bonkers!
“POSE WITH A NOSE or be DAFT IN A MASK”
Schools can download our NEW starter
packs of posters and we can send you TEN
legendary ‘Wetnoses’! Additional noses and
masks are available to buy from our website
by Paypal. The funds that YOU raise are
donated back to Wetnose; funds are then
given to support animal Rescue Centres.
Join Saint Catherine’s for Starlight Walk’s 10 year Anniversary
September will mark 10 years since the start of Saint Catherine’s annual Starlight Walk. This year the walk will take
place on Saturday 16th September at 9pm. It will begin at the Hospice on Throxenby Lane and follow a 6.5 mile
route around Scarborough’s North and South bay with a stop on the way at the famous Harbour Bar, who have
supported this event from the beginning.
This year supporters will be given a lantern with their registration packs. People may wish to decorate these in
dedication to a loved one. These lanterns will then be placed within the Hospice grounds before the walk begins.
The supporters will then be able to light up the night when they are given another handled lantern that they can
carry along the route to light the way. The team at Saint Catherine’s are looking forward to seeing their supporters
getting creative with light up costumes to really brighten up the night sky.
Registration is £14 for adults £5 for children under the age of 16. You can register via Saint Catherine’s website www.
saintcatherines.org.uk or by visiting any of the 11 Saint Catherine’s shops to pick up a paper registration form.
education focused on the individual. From September, we are
extending our pre-school provision and welcoming three-year-olds to
our relaxed, warm and nurturing environment.
Pre-Prep and Prep School teaching is geared towards firing
children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning – and most of all,
making it fun. Small class sizes and the fact we hold no external SATs
exams allow us to offer pupils individual support as they learn how
to think for themselves, work in teams, make friends and develop
confidence.
As pupils progress and prepare to move up to Pocklington School,
we gently stretch and challenge every child as they move toward
more in-depth study. A vibrant co-curricular programme is supported
by facilities including a 300-seat theatre, an indoor sports hall and
swimming pool, 21 acres of grass sports pitches and two full-sized
synthetic pitches.
A strong commitment to pastoral care underpins our aim of inspiring
pupils for life, so they leave Pocklington School aged 18 as confident,
capable and respectful adults ready to make their mark on the world.
The Search for the Scarborough
Scholar 2018 is On!
Scarborough
College’s campaign
to find talented
children in the
North and East
Yorkshire regions
who might be
eligible to receive
scholarships with
up to 100% of fees
reduced was so
successful in 2016 that the awards have been made an annual affair.
Potential pupils at primary and secondary schools who have already
proven their academic and extra-curricular talents are
encouraged to apply online.
The year’s recipient of the Scarborough Scholar full scholarship
award has made a most positive impression since her arrival at the
College from Lady Lumley’s into Year 9 in January. Rachel was
chosen from a very large number of high-calibre applicants and
stood out as a pupil with obviously impressive levels of achievement
to-date, talent in many areas, self-motivation and ambition. She has
already proven herself a most accomplished creative writer, public
speaker and dancer.
A number of other accomplished applicants from primary
schools across the area will also be joining the College this
September, thanks to the scholarships and bursaries they have
been awarded via the process. The search is now on for the
Stuck on you
Stuck On You’s story began in 1995.
Anticipating chaos in a growing family,
CEO Carrie recognised the need to
label each child’s belongings. Given that
many little ones are in the early stages of
literacy, why not personalise these labels
with familiar icons? The idea seemed
simple enough. However, when her request was met with blank looks
from the local printer, Stuck On You was born.
Two decades later, we now have over 50 icons, each one lovingly
created by our in-house graphic designers. Our labels are so versatile
they can stick on practically anything – clothing, shoes, you name it
(literally!) We also offer a huge range of other personalised products
- bags, lunchboxes, height charts.. Quality is 100% guaranteed to
survive even the most, ahem, “high-spirited” of children.
WHY SHOULD YOUR CHILD LEARN TO SWIM?
Swimming is one of the best
ways to stay fit and healthy. It
uses most of the muscles in
your body and exercises the
most important of them all,
your heart. It’s also a skill that
can help to keep people safe
throughout their lives!
A recent report from Swim England revealed that one in three
children leave primary school unable to swim. Everyone Active aims
to improve this statistic by encouraging more people to swim, with
award-winning swimming lessons for children as young as four
months, building confidence in and around water.
