Microsoft Office Talent Hunt Commences Countrywide 

Microsoft Office Specialist 

World Championship is, 

actually a search mission 

to recognize the best 

minds in MS Office applications, in 

its 14th year now and, first time ever, 

Bangladesh is going to take part in this 

globally most popular IT contest. 

Each country selects its best to represent 

it in the final round, usually held at an 

international venue. This year it is Dallas 

in the USA on August 9-12. To pick out 

the top talent, DIGILEARN, the Certiport 

certified authority in Bangladesh, 

has undertaken extensive campaign 

program targeting the school-collegeuniversity 

students through face-book, 

online portal and other on-campus 

activation. 

In presence of mass media and noted 

personalities, the inauguration took 

place at 11-00 am this morning (Feb 

28, Saturday) through the enrolment 

of students at the Cambrian School and 

College campus in Baridhara. The MOS 

campaign would continue through 

March and April, till May 15.

Mostafa, Managing Director of Digicon 

Wahid Sharif, Consultant Gourab Gupta 

and Managing Director of Cool Exposure

Those who pass the test will be 

awarded with the prestigious Microsoft 

Certification. The top scorer in country 

will bear the national flag and represent 

country at the final round of the test at 

Dallas in the USA on August 9-12. The 

other top ten will also be awarded with 

attractive gift hamper and scholarship 

money. 

A candidate willing to take part in the 

test must be a student in any approved 

educational institution in Bangladesh 

and must be aged between 13 and 22 

(as of June 2015). About 8 lac students 

from over 140 countries enrolled in the 

last year’s championship.

of entertainment channels from 950 

to 2,000. This comes on top of the 

already wide selection of more than 

200 audio options and 50 games to 

entertain both children and adults 

during their journey. 

Passengers on board Qatar Airways 

flights in March 2015 will also be able 

to enjoy an eclectic line up of Oscarwinning 

movies including Birdman, 

which won Academy Awards for Best

singer, an artist or a performer is not just 

born each is created. One of the finest 

examples is TowfiqueAhmed, who is 

not only a singer rather a revolutionary 

artist whose songs, lyrics and tunes speak for our 

nation. His early childhood was nurtured with the 

influence of musical instruments like tabla and 

drums. He has always been greatly influenced and 

inspired by Rock music. His deep indulgence and 

devotion have made him a revolutionary artist. 

Back in 2000 during a casual jamming session 

with the famous vocalist Shabbir of Metal Maze he 

surprisingly wrote a song lyric and since then he 

has introduceda number of tremendously written 

lyrics. Later, while studying in Jhenaidaha Cadet 

College his band PIERO was crowned as the best 

band at Inter Cadet College Band Competition in 

the year 2005.

to Bangladesh in 2010.

majestic soundtracks. 

Each song is not only 

composed of fine tunes 

and lyric rather each 

song is the spark of 

true patriotism, youth 

and our society. In 

2014, he came up with 

another motivational 

album called Dashotto. 

Later both the albums

DASHOTTO were under 

the major record label 

of Bangladesh G Series. 

Some of his inspirations

Nochiketa, 2 Pac, 

Lowkey, Eminem, 

Linkin Park, and so on.

contemporary Bangla

approach that improves the life 

of patients and their families 

facing the problem with life-threatening 

illness, through the prevention and relief 

by means of early identification and 

treatment of pain and other problems, 

physical, psychosocial and spiritual. 

To put across this inspirational memo 

among a greater audience, a daylong 

workshop titled `Palliative Care : Why It 

Should Be in the National Health Policy?’ 

was held today at the Milton Hall of 

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical 

University (BSMMU) in city.

BTCCI urges Thai Businessmen to enhance bilateral 

business relation with Bangladesh 

Bangladesh Thai Chamber of 

Commerce & Industry (BTCCI) 

urged the Thai entrepreneurs to

Shah Jahan & Mumtaz Mahal 


In line with the philosophy of the 

great preacher St. Valentine, what 

greater love story could there be, 

than a love story that inspired one 

of the most magnificent structures 

in the World? That which began as a 

betrothal, blossomed into an intensely 

intimate bond- which despite ending 

in tragedy, will live on forever through 

the awe-inspiring Taj Mahal. 

One could only imagine the life, this 

widely romantic couple would have 

experienced- mid night strolls on the 

shore Taj lake, Meena Bazaar. On this 

day, the gates of the private market 

attached to the Harem of Emperor 

Jahangir, were thrown open to Royalty 

and high-rocking commoners alike. 

It was at once of the stalls that Prince 

Khurram, later Shah Jahan, espied 

the lovely and attractive Anjumand 

Begam (later Mumtaz Mahal) as was 

completely enraptured by her charms. 

When the Royal wedding took place 

after five years, Prince Khurram 

resplendently attired in rich gold and 

brocade. 

The prince continued to court his 

young bride ardently ever after they 

were married, bringing her lavish 

gifts of diamonds and gorgeous roses 

from the most gardens in the country, 

Mumtaz Mahal in turn, stood staunchly 

by her husband’s side through all the 

vicissitudes of life and rose to be his 

trusted political adviser and counsel. 

Before she breathed her last, Mumtaz 

Mahal made Shah Jahan promise to 

erect a peerless monument to amortize 

their love. Shah Jahan also vowed to 

her that he would never remarry, as 

would build the monument ,her last

It took 22 years for heartbroken 

Shah Jahan to construct the Taj Mahal 

to fulfil the promises dream. The Taj 

Mahal is flanked by two immensely 

beautiful mosques on either side. Since 

the lovely Mumtaz Mahal died in child 

birth, The Taj Mahal is today an Urs 

or place of pilgrimage. In the warm, 

vibrant colours of mid summer’s night 

picnic in the moonlight garden of the 

palace-perhaps even an elephant ride 

for two through the streets of Agra or 

along the banks of the river Yamuna. 

Shah Jahan loved and trusted Mumtaz 

Mahal so completely; that he even 

presented her with greatest honour 

possible- his imperial seal, the ‘Mohr 

Uzah’. 

Taj Mahal stands for “the epitome of 

Love”. The beauty of this monument 

is such that it is beyond the scope 

of words. The thoughts that come 

into the mind while watching the 

Taj Mahal (jewel of palace) of Agra 

in India is not just its phenomenal 

beauty, but the immense love which 

was the reason behind its construction. 

Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan got this 

monument constructed in the memory 

of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, 

with whom he fall in love at the first 

sight. The very first sight of the Taj 

Mahal, the lively symbol of love and 

romance leaves one mesmerized. The 

Taj Mahal stood silence, an eloquent of 

eternal love, etched against the perfect 

evening sky. 

As crimson rays tinged the flawless 

façade of the Taj Mahal, a delicate 

pink, the people bowed in homage as 

they recalled the poignant saga of love 

encapsulate in the annals of historyone 

of the seven wonders of the world. 

It was designed by a Persian architect 

named Ustad Isa to fulfil the last wish 

of his wife. Let us go back in time to 

that fateful day when great Love story 

between the Mughal Emperor and his 

would-be queen began… 

… In the year 1607 A.D at the 

Mughal Ruler’s palace in Agra, a 

festival was being celebrated at the 

Royal nature – colours that would had 

never faded, like the everlasting love 

of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. 

Immortalising the Taj Mahal as the 

epitome signifies the undying love. 

Mumtaz Mahal died on 17th June, 

1631, while Shah Jahan died on 1st 

February, 1666. He was buried beside 

Mumtaz in the Taj Mahal which serves 

as a pleasant symbol of dedicated love, 

conjugal harmony and mutual respect 

of two lovers- similar to preaching of 

St. Valentine. 

The Taj Mahal now is an everlasting 

tribute from the emperor to his 

beloved wife- but more than that, it is 

a shining monument of greatest love 

story in the world. 

When Mumtaz Mahal died, she 

was just 39 years old. Shah Jahan 

was inconsolable and contemporary 

chronicles tell of the Royal Court 

morning for 2 years. There was no 

music, no feasting and no celebration 

of any kind. The queen before her 

death extracted 4 promises (1 already 

mentioned), out of which another 

condition was that he should visit the 

memorial every year on her death 

anniversary. He kept the request till 

his last breath. 

Today, there are few lovers like 

shah Jahan and fewer like Mumtaz 

Mahal. If the emperor was born 

today, he would definitely buy 

Mumtaz Mahal a garden of red roses, 

a store full of Swiss Chocolates, 

personalised jewellery and have 

composers from across the world

Valentine’s Day 

story of Love 


The story of Valentine’s Day begins in the 

third century with an oppressive Roman 

emperor and a humble Christian Martyr. The 

emperor was named Claudius II, while the 

Christians were Valentines. 

Claudius II had ordered all Romans to 

worship twelve Gods, and had made it a 

crime punishable by death to associate with 

Christians. But Valentinus (alias Valentine) 

was dedicated to the ideals of Christ; not even 

threat of death could keep him from practising 

his believes. He was arrested and punished life 

time imprisonment. 

During the last weeks of Valentinus’s life a 

remarkable thing happened. Seeing that he was 

a man of learning, the jailor asked whether his 

daughter Julia, might be brought to Valentines 

for lessons. She had been blind since birth. 

Julia was a pretty young girl with a quick 

mind. Valentine readily agreed and taught the 

stories of Roman history to her. He described 

the world of nature to her. He taught her 

arithmetic and told her about God. She saw the 

world through his eyes, trusted his wisdom, 

and found comfort in his quite strength. 

‘Valentinus, does God really hear our 

prayers?’ Julia asked one day. - Yes my child, 

he hears each other. ‘Do you know what I pray 

for every morning and every night?’ I pray that 

I might see. I want so much to see everything 

you have told me about!’- God does what 

best for us if we will only believe in him. ‘Oh 

Valentinus, I do believe. I do!’ she knelt and 

grasped his head. 

They sat quietly together, each praying. 

Suddenly there was a brilliant light in prison 

cell. Radiant! Julia screamed,’ Valentinus, I 

can see! I can see! Praise to God- Valentinus 

exclaimed and he knelt in prayer. On the 

eve of his death, Valentinus wrote a last note 

to Julia, urging her to stay close to God. He 

signed it, ‘From your Valentine’. His sentence 

was carried out next day, February 14, 270 

A.D near a gate that was later named Porta 

Valintini in Rome in his memory. He was 

buried at what is now the church of Praxedes 

in Rome. It is said that Julia planted a pinkblossomed 

almond tree remains a symbol 

of abiding love and friendship. On each 

February 14, Saint Valentine’s Day, massages 

in affection, love and devotion are exchanged 

around the world.

school of thought. He 

was a Roman priest at a 

time when there was an 

emperor called Clandias II 

who persecuted the church 

at that particular time. 

He also had an edict that 

prohibited the marriage 

of young people. This was 

based on the hypothesis 

that unmarried soldiers 

fought better than married 

soldiers because married 

soldiers might be afraid 

of what might happen to 

them or their wives or 

families if they died. 

But obviously the church 

thought that marriage was 

very sacred between one 

man and one woman for 

their life and that it was to 

be encouraged. And so it 

immediately presented the 

problem to the Christian 

church of what to do 

about this. The idea of 

encouraging them to 

marry was what valentine 

was about. And he secretly 

married them because 

of the edict. Valentine 

was eventually caught, 

imprisoned and further 

for performing marriage 

ceremonies against 

command of Emperor 

Claudius the second. There 

are legends surrounding 

Valentine’s actions while 

in prison. One of the man 

who was to judge him in 

line with the Roman law 

at the time was man called 

Asterius, a non-Christian, 

whose daughter was a 

blind. He was supposed 

to have prayed with and 

heeled the young girl with 

such astonishing effect that 

Asterius himself became 

a Christian. As a result 

and in the year 269 A.D., 

valentine was sentenced to 

a 3-part fortune and died. 

The story goes that the last 

words he wrote in a note 

to Aesterious’s daughter- 

‘from your Valentine’. 

“Valentine has come to 

be known as the patron 

saint of lovers. Before you 

enter into a marriage you 

want some sense of God in 

your life”. 

Love – human love and 

sexuality is wonderful, and 

blessed by god- but also 

the shadow of the cross. 

That is what Valentine 

meant as his missionary 

philosophy of life. 

Let us take a trip back 

to the tavern in Rome in 

270 A.D. It is around the 

ides of February, and most 

of the city is engaged in 

Lupercalia, a so-called 

cleansing time for the 

pagans all about us. One 

Bishop, Valentine, refused 

to stop marriages. He 

counselled couples that 

from beginning God made 

them men and women. 

He practised what he 

preached- marrying many 

couples. That irritated the 

emperor, who had him 

arrested and brought to 

him and put him in jail. 

So, in the end, Valentine 

was killed for supporting 

marriage by the emperor 

who believed valentine but 

thought that had he not 

killed Valentine, people 

would think he was weak 

(sound liken Pilate). 

Saint Valentine has 

communicated the World 

people that Jesus has told 

us the first commandment: 

‘If you love the Lord your 

God will be in your heart, 

your soul and with all your 

mind and with all your 

strength’. According to 

his sermon-“ in order to 

live out gods high calling, 

it always helps to be in 

relationship with another 

person. As long as there is 

the two of us, we have got 

the world all its charms. 

And when the world is 

through with us, we will 

have each other’s arms. 

You have got to give a 

little. Take a little, and let 

your poor heart break a 

little. That is the story of 

Valentine’s Day, which is

Widen your eyes: Eyes that have too 

much lid showing need to be coloured 

with shadow (or kohl, if you want to go 

dramatic) across the entire lid, right up 

to the crease below the browbone. Take 

a smudgy kohl pencil and blend a line 

halfway across the lower lash line, too. 

Give close-set eyes some space: Colour 

half the upper lid in a triangular shape, 

with the apex of the triangle at the outer 

corner. Draw a line halfway across the 

lower lash line and blend well. 

Lessen the bulge: If your eyes tend to 

bulge, colour the upper lid all the way up 

to the crease. Line bottom lash line with a 

dark kohl. 

Define deep-set eyes: Apply light frosted 

colour from the lash line all the way to the 

brow but keep it within the bone structure 

of the eye socket.Dark circles: Dot a 

concealer halfway down from the inner 

eye area, which is the darkest part. Blend 

well and set with a very light dusting of 

pressed powder. 

Sleepy eyes: Wake up sleepy orbs with 

navy kohl and mascara. 

LOVE THOSE LIPS 

Balance your lips: For too-full lips, outline the Cupid’s bow of the top 

lip, then fill in the centre of both lips with a darker lip pencil. Blend, 

then apply your normal shade of lipstick. Always match the tip of the 

Cupid’s bow of the mouth with the nostrils — this brings the nose and 

mouth into harmony. 

Give uneven lips shape: Use a brighter colour on the smaller lip for 

a fuller appearance. If your upper lip is narrow, paint a line with a lip 

pencil just over the top lip edge, then use two lippers; a dark shade for 

the upper lip and a lighter one for the lower lip. 

A too-wide mouth: Don’t take lip colour all the way to the corners of 

the mouth. 

THE SCULPTED JAW 

To slim a heavy jawline, apply 

shader in a wedge just above the 

edge of your jawline, then blend.

Blush should always be kept towards the 

outside of the face, never coming closer to 

the middle of the face than just below the 

middle of the eye. 

The cheek can be hollowed by shading the 

outside plane of the jawline. Colour should 

come no closer to the middle of the face 

than the outside corner of the eye.

which is protected from dirt and -bacteria by the 

cuticle. Exfoliate cuticles with grainy scrub instead of 

cutting them. 

• Keep nail strengthener on the desk or by the TV, and 

apply one coat daily. Remove weekly. 

• Soak fingers in olive oil once a week, for 10 minutes, 

for silken nails. 

• Busy fingers make nails grow faster. Play the piano, 

type, or knit. 

• To smoothen brittle nails, mix five tablespoons of 

milk in one-and-a-half cups of hot water. Soak hands 

in this solution for 10 minutes. The lactic acid in milk 

helps exfoliate dead cells. 

• Housework, soap, water and excessive use of 

detergents can split and peel nails because of their 

strong de-greasing effect. Wear rubber gloves or use a 

hand cream every time you wash. Keeps nails clean and 

hands supple. 

• Use a pencil to dial telephone numbers. 

• Nail varnish solvents in removers can cause brittleness 

and breaking; so try not to use a nail varnish remover 

more than once a week. 

MANICURE KIT MUST- 

HAVES 

Nail files: Get a medium grade emery board for shortening 

nails and a fine grade one for the finishing touch. Replace 

your nail files regularly. 

Nail buffer: These usually come in three combined 

buffing surfaces. Some products can give a wonderful 

shine, while others might damage your nails. It’s a good 

idea to consult your manicurist if you are unsure of 

product quality. 

Cuticle softeners: You’ll need these to loosen stubborn 

skin that is stuck to the nail bed. IV me products come 

as easy-to-use thick creams which you massage into the 

cuticle. 

POLISH REMOVERS: Look for acetonefree 

polish removers as they are gentler on the nails. Some 

removers contain vitamin E and are even aromatic. In

EASY STEPS 

1. Using an acetone-free nail polish remover, take off any 

old polish. Hold a cotton ball soaked with remover on each 

nail for 10 seconds and then wipe This helps loosen the 

polish. 

2. Trim and file your nails to the desired shape and length. 

Try to file in one direction only, it helps prevent splitting. 

3. Soak hands in some warm sudsy water for a few minutes 

to soften the cuticles. Adding some nice aromatherapy oils 

or using a scented soap makes the experience even better! If 

you’re giving yourself a pedicure, try an exfoliating scrub to 

get rid of any callouses. 

4. Clean the nails with a nail brush to remove any dirt. 

5. Put on some good cuticle softener/remover and sit for a 

few minutes. (Follow the directions on your cuticle product 

of choice.) 

6. Use the tip of an orange stick (available in most drug 

stores and beauty supply stores) covered in cotton to 

gently push back the cuticles. If it hurts, you’re doing it 

wrong! Remember, you aren’t supposed to be cutting your 

cuticles. 

7. Now massage some moisturiser into your hands and 

let it soak in. This would be a good time for some cuticle 

oil as well. 

8. Before you begin to polish, you need to wash your 

hands or the polish won’t adhere properly. 

9. Apply a base coat and let dry. 

10. Now apply two thin coats of polish. Let each dry for 

at least four minutes. 

11. You’re done! Remember to allow ample drying time 

or you’ll end up messing up your hard work and having to 

start all over again. Once the polish is dry, it’s time to try 

some nail art. 

12. Glitter do-it-yourself: Take some really fine glitter. 

Paint a design on your nail using top coat or polish and, 

while it’s still wet, dust the nail with glitter. The glitter will 

stick only to the wet areas. You can use a toothpick to paint 

really fine lines. Once the glitter has dried in place, seal it

we are the die heart follower of Indian 

tradition from the very beginning.

Day is followed by some other days like 

Chocolate Day, Propose Day, Teddy Day, 

Hug Day and Kiss Day. Young couples

Asparagus Soup 

Make the most of the asparagus season with this easy soup recipe. Serve piping hot with bread – or for a soup with a 

difference, chill thoroughly and serve in cold bowls. 

Ingredients: 

2 Tbsp. olive oil 

1/2 medium onion, chopped 

1 clove garlic, finely chopped 

2 lbs. asparagus, trimmed and coarsely chopped 

6 cups water 

2 Knorr® Chicken flavored Bouillon Cubes, crumbled 

1/4 cup heavy cream 

How to make: 

1. Heat olive oil in 4-quart saucepot over medium heat and cook 

onion and garlic, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 4 

minutes. Add asparagus and cook, stirring occasionally, 3 minutes. 

Stir in water and Knorr® Chicken flavored Bouillon Cubes and bring 

to a boil over high heat. Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, 

20 minutes or until asparagus is very tender. 

2. Blend soup with a hand-held/immersion blender until smooth; 

stir in cream. Garnish, if desired, with chopped dill or chives.

Ancho Chili Beef & Vegetable Soup 

Ingredients: 

2 Tbsp. vegetable oil, divided 

1 1/2 lbs. boneless beef chuck, trimmed and 

cut into 1/2-inch cubes 

1 large white onion, chopped 

1 can (15 oz.) whole kernel corn, drained 

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped 

2 Tbsp. tomato paste 

2 tsp. ground ancho chile pepper* 

4 cups water 

3 Tbsp. Knorr® Beef flavor Bouillon 

1 medium zucchini, chopped 

1 large tomato, seeded and chopped 

How to make: 

1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in large saucepot over mediumhigh 

heat and brown beef. Remove and set aside. 

2. Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil and cook onion and 

corn about 4 minutes or until corn starts to brown, 

stirring occasionally. Add garlic, tomato paste, ground 

chili pepper about 1 minute, stirring occasionally. Stir 

in water and Knorr® Beef flavor Bouillon and bring 

to a boil. Reduce heat, return beef to saucepot and 

simmer covered about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. 

Add zucchini and tomato and simmer uncovered about 

10 minutes or until zucchini is tender. Garnish with 

chopped fresh cilantro.

Avocado Soup with Chipotle Cream 

Ingredients: 

AVOCADO SOUP: 

2 Tbsp. vegetable oil 

1 large sweet onion, chopped 

1 large clove garlic, finely 

chopped 

5 cups water

Chicken flavor Bouillon 

Cubes, crumbled 

4 ripe avocados, diced 

CHIPOTLE CREAM: 

1 cup sour cream 

2 Tbsp. chopped fresh 

cilantro 

1/2 tsp. ground chipotle 

chili pepper [or 1 chopped 

chipotle in adobo] 

Pinch sugar 

1 Tbsp. lime juice 

How to make: 

1. For Avocado Soup, heat oil in a large skillet over medium 

heat and cook onion about 10 minutes or until tender, stirring 

occasionally. Stir in garlic and cook about 30 seconds. Add water 

and Knorr® Reduced Sodium Chicken flavor Bouillon Cubes and 

bring to a boil. Stir in avocado, reduce heat and simmer about 5 

minutes, or until avocado is very soft. Remove from heat. Process, 

in batches, in a blender or food processor until smooth. To serve, 

garnish with Chipotle Cream. 

2. For Chipotle Cream, combine all ingredients in a small bowl

1 medium butternut squash, peeled, seeded 

and cut into chunks (about 5 cups) 

2 Yukon gold potatoes [or all-purpose 

potatoes], peeled and cut into chunks

chopped (about 1 cup) 

1 clove garlic, sliced 

2 Tbsp. olive oil 

6 cups water 

2 tubs Knorr® Homestyle Stock - Chicken 

1 tsp. fresh thyme and/or rosemary leaves 

1/2 tsp. ground ginger 

1/2 tsp. fresh ginger

How to make: 

1. Preheat oven to 450°. 

2.Toss squash, potatoes, shallots, garlic and olive oil in small roasting pan. 

Roast, stirring once, 35 minutes or until vegetables are tender and just starting 

to brown. 

3. Bring water, Knorr® Homestyle Stock - Chicken, roasted vegetables, thyme 

and ginger to a boil over high heat in 5-quart saucepan. Reduce heat to low 

and simmer, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes. 

4. Process soup, in batches, in blender until desired smoothness. 

5.Serve in individual bowls and garnish with Fig Relish*. 

6. *Fig Relish - Melt 1 tablespoon I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!® Spread 

over medium-high heat in medium nonstick skillet and cook 1/2 cup finely 

chopped shallots, stirring occasionally, until golden, about 4 minutes. Stir in 

1-1/2 cups chopped dried Mission figlets and 1/4 cup Port. Reduce heat to 

low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until figs are softened and liquid is 

absorbed, about 4 minutes.

one thing is for sure: No one 

wants to deal with acne. The 

frustrating skin problem is unsightly, 

embarrassing and a pain to deal with. It 

seems like we’re always on the hunt for 

the best acne obliterating miracle product 

or cover-up to hide those imperfections. 

After hearing much buzz about skincare 

myths, we interviewed one of our reputed 

beauty experts and dermatologistrecently, 

who debunked a handful of acne-specific 

myths we totally believed. Check them out 

below. 

You will eventually outgrow acne — it’s 

only a teenage problem. “Acne is worse 

for females when they are women, and 

usually worse for males when they are 

teenagers,” she says. It would be great if 

we could outgrow acne like we outgrew 

bad hair as a teen, but she says, “90 percent 

of all teenagers have acne, but adult acne 

is a major problem for both men and 

women.” 

Washing your face consistently is the 

cure to acne. Sometimes we believe that 

if we scrub hard enough or often enough, 

acne will go away, but unfortunately, that 

is not the case. “Washing one to two times 

a day with an anti-acne cleanser is helpful,

Acne is caused by clogged pores, 

bacteria, hormonal fluctuations and 

overgrowth of sebum and washing 

more won’t fix those causes.

“If you wear an oil-free sunscreen,

should not clog your pores,” she says. 

So when you’re out shopping for a 

facial sunscreen, make sure it is safe 

and good for use on your skin type. 

Your diet has nothing to do with 

acne. We were surprised to find 

out that this one depends on the 

individual. She says, “In many 

patients this is true, but there are 

acne patients where diet plays a role. 

For regular acne patients, she always 

recommends a healthy diet, and if 

a particular patient finds that every 

time they eat chocolate they break 

out, then the best thing to do is avoid 

chocolate.” Healthy eating should 

always be a priority, but if you notice 

certain foods trigger a breakout, 

well then, you may have found the 

culprit. 

Sun exposure is good for healing 

a breakout. This one is a big-time 

falsity. She advises, “Sun kills bacteria 

and that’s why many people feel their 

acne gets better when they go to the 

beach. However, the sun will darken 

any marks left over from a breakout, 

so it is not good to heal a breakout at

1. Structured Bags with Handles: There 

are many different names of these bags: 

satchels, doctor bags, bowling bags, duffle 

bags, or lady like bags. Try imagining a 

handbag from the 50s or 60s and you’d be 

pretty close to what these bags look like. 

Most of the bags were rounded, but not 

round. Some were squarer. Others were 

square with “wings”. 

Some of them were teeny-weeny tiny, 

some of them were smallish, and others 

were mid-sized. The most versatile ones 

had a shoulder strap along with a regular 

purse handle. Structured bags almost 

always look good with color blocking

Rectangular box-shaped bags, sometimes 

called suitcase bags, are hot. The newest 

and trendiest ones are quite small and they

shoulderbags (often with chain straps) or 

meant to be held as clutches (often with a 

hand strap or wrist strap). Other types of 

boxy bags are softer and not as trendy.

Swimming Strokes: 

While there is no end to innovative 

styles, some of the established ones 

include: 

1. Freestyle or Crawl: Done facedown 

in water, it involves rotation of the 

arms and paddling of the feet. 

2. Backstroke: Opposite of the freestyle, 

you face upwards and rotate your hands 

and paddle your feet backwards. 

3. Breaststroke: The technique involves 

circular motion of both hands and legs, 

while bobbing the body up and down. 

4. Butterfly stroke: The legs and 

arms move together and push the 

water downwards and backwards, 

consequently moving the torso 

forward. 

Confused about where to begin? 

Well, for beginners the freestyle is the

Best time to swim 

Along with the rigor of an exercise, the timing also plays a role in 

reaping the complete benefits. We asked our expert about the best time 

for swimming. Early morning as that is the best time to exercise was 

the response. In the mornings, after a good night’s rest, one’s energy 

is at its peak, giving you the full benefit of your workout. As the day 

proceeds, noon time onwards, the sun rays are most powerful, which 

exposes the skin to UV radiation, and some rays will penetrate even if 

one is wearing sunscreen. If you are swimming for relaxation, then an 

evening swim, once the sun isn’t so strong, is also an option. Those 

who don’t have the time in the mornings should head to a pool in the 

evening to ensure a regular form of physical activity.

Limitations? 

Wanting to lose weight drastically? Then swimming 

is not the panacea. An exercise for toning muscles, 

weight loss may come only gradually. 

While you do use a lot of calories while swimming, 

once you get out of the pool much of that calorie 

burning stops, so swimming is in a way more 

effective for body toning than for drastic weight 

reduction. Doing land based exercise like running or 

cycling may use about the same amount of calorie 

per hour as swimming, but once you stop exercising 

the land-based workout usually leads to continued 

increase in calorie use for as long as 18 hours after 

the workout. This is because when you are in the 

pool you don’t heat up as much as you do on land, 

and your body does not have to work to cool you 

down as much once the exercise session concludes. 

Precautions 

Swimming is an enjoyable fun activity to do, but 

needs to be executed with responsibility. Here are 

the tips on what to do and what not to do when 

swimming include: 

• Swim where there is a lifeguard on duty. 

Develop a buddy system – don’t swim alone or 

allow others to swim alone. 

• Check how deep the water is. 

• Wear sunscreen of a good SPF (+30) to protect 

yourself from UV radiation. 

• Keep a first aid kit near the pool in case of 

emergency. Being prepared for minor injuries 

can help avoid major ones. 

• Learn how to dive properly by taking classes. 

Never dive into above-ground pools; they are 

usually not deep enough. Always check the 

water 

depth before plunging into an in-ground pool. 

• Serious spinal cord injuries, permanent brain 

damage, and death can occur to swimmers who 

dive into shallow water or spring upward on the 

diving board and hit it on the way down.

is that actor Siddharth

29th birthday in the 

company of the ‘Highway’ girl, Alia 

Bhatt. 

This news all the more steams up 

the rumours of Siddharth’s alleged 

love affair with ‘Student Of The 

Year’ co-star. 

If reports in Indian media are to 

be believed the two were in Goa 

partying on the special occasion. 

Interestingly, the duo is also 

accompanied by Sid’s mentor and 

buddy Karan Johar and also director 

Ayan Mukerji. 

Both Siddharth and Alia seems to

town red at various events with 

joint appearances. Rumours of 

their alleged relationship started 

gaining momentum after they 

arrived in the same car at actor 

Ranbir Kapoor’s Christmas 

bash and apparently remained 

inseparable for the entire night. 

Their undisclosed New Year 

vacation fanned the link-up 

rumours further. Both were 

caught at the airport when they 

returned from their getaway.
