In a recent development that
will cheer our business
c o m m u n i t y , K a r n a t a k a
continues to be the country’s
top preferred destination for
investments. The Trade and
Industry is still grappling with
the complex new Goods and
Services Tax (GST) rolled out
post-July 2017 and the trade
and industry bodies are
slowly getting the nuances of
the law in place and hopefully,
in the coming months the nation will be GST-compliant.
There are bound to be several teething problems
d u r i n g t h e o n g o i n g i m p l e m e n t a t i o n o f a
transformational indirect tax regime such as GST.
The FKCCI is setting up GST Simulation & Facilitation
Centres in all districts of Karnataka in association with
District Chambers of Commerce. Any Member of the
Chamber can visit the GST Simulation Centre and seek
clarification on specific issues related to their line of
business. They are open basically to accelerate the process
of GST integration especially among the MSME players who
are finding it difficult to understand and grasp the nuances of
the new law. The Chamber has partnered with renowned
technology companies and the tax department to guide
Members in solving compliance issues.
India is expected to be home to a workforce of 500 million
by 2022. About 12 million persons are expected to join
the workforce every year. However, only 10% of the total
workforce in the country receives some kind of skill
training (2% with formal training and 8% with informal
training). Considering the increasing requirement for
skilled labour, FKCCI has decided to set up a Skill
Development Institute. We are thankful to KIADB for
having allotted 1.5 acres of land for setting up the
Institute in Dobbaspet Industrial Area which shall aim to
support the following objectives:
Skill development for ITI graduates
Exposure to real-life workplace situations
Exposure to latest trends in Manufacturing/Innovation
Collaboration with international skill development
partners in Germany and Switzerland
Host startups/incubators and provide mentoring
and support for their growth
The continued crisis in the farm sector has alarmed us all
and so we at the FKCCI joined hands with Media Today
Group to organize the 9th Edition of Agri-Tech India
2017 and Foodex 2017 which gave a single, common
platform for all stakeholders of the farm sector to come
together and stave off the crisis. All of us, especially from
Industry, Trade and Commerce, need to join hands to
encourage the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘More Crop, Per
Drop’ and we at the Federation would like to urge the farm
sector to adopt newer technologies in the cutting edge to
increase farm output and better the quality of produce.
FKCCI will establish a Centre for Business Excellence at
its state of-the-art new Centenary building and conduct
certification courses on export documentation, labour
laws, tourism, GST etc. in association with government
agencies and professional bodies. Sir MV Research
Centre will be started where several position and
research papers by renowned experts on a crosssection
of relevant and topical subjects will be released,
and support extended to the government to improve the
Ease of Doing Business by highlighting pain-points of
the industry and helping policy -makers to tune in with
the industry requirements.
For the first time, FKCCI will be representing at the
prestigious international Conference, the “World
Chambers Congress”, a premier event of its kind
bringing together chambers, business and government
figures on a single platform to discuss issues related to
trade and industry, scheduled between September 19
and 21, 2017 at Sydney, Australia.
In conclusion, I would like to state that the initiatives
enumerated above, would enable FKCCI to play the role of
a policy facilitator more effectively. Development, being a
continuous process, I intend taking forward in continuing
the initiatives taken by my predecessors along with my
action plan. This would be possible only with the active
support of the Government, the visionaries of the State
and the Centre, Print and Electronic media, Members of
FKCCI and the people of the State.
