NEW DELHI: A photo of your shiny
new luxury car on Instagram or a
costly watch on Facebook may lead
the taxman to your door as the tax
department from next month will begin
amassing virtual information to trace
black money.
'Project Insight', likely to be launched
next month, will use big data analytics
to match information from social
media sites to deduce mismatches+
between spending pattern and income
declaration.
The tax department will analyse
mismatches in income declarations
and spending patterns to trace tax
evasions and black money, an official
said.
The government has also made
the linking of PAN with Aadhaar
mandatory to get a 360 degree view of a
person's income and assets.
The tax department had last year
signed a pact with L&T Infotech for

Framingham-based Bose Corp. has
released its smallest and most rugged
portable speaker yet: the SoundLink
Micro Bluetooth speaker.
The device, just 3.75 inches wide
and 1.5 inches high, weighing just .64
pounds, is waterproof and will even
keep playing music if dropped in
water.
The company said the speaker will
provide up to 6 hours of "surprisinglyloud-and
clear audio and low bass."

Samsung Galaxy C8 has become the
latest smartphone on the market with
facial recognition technology to unlock
the handset using the user's face,
something the South Korean giant is
promoting heavily these days. Two
Galaxy C8 variants have been launched
- one with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage,
and another with 4GB of RAM and
64GB built-in storage. The Samsung
the implementation of Project Insight,
which is designed to strengthen
the non-intrusive information

compliance.
"Currently, beta testing is on and the
integrated platform for Project Insight
should be launched by next month," the

Project Insight has been initiated

on cash transactions, extensive use
of information technology and data
analytics tools for identification
of high risk cases, expeditious
e-verification of suspect cases and
enforcement actions.

A Sense Of
Touch
Houston, Sep 14 (PTI) Scientists have
developed a soft, flexible artificial skin
integrated with stretchable electronics
that could allow robots to have a sense
of touch.
Researchers from University of
Houston in the US developed a new
mechanism for producing stretchable
electronics, a process that relies
upon readily available materials and
could be scaled up for commercial
production.
They created the stretchable
composite semiconductor using a
silicon-based polymer known as
polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and tiny
nanowires to create a solution that
hardened into a material which used
the nanowires to transport electric
current.
"The work is the first to create a
semiconductor in a rubber composite
format, designed to allow the electronic
components to retain functionality
even after the material is stretched
by 50 per cent," said Cunjiang Yu,
assistant professor at the University of
Houston.
Traditional semiconductors are
brittle and using them in otherwise
stretchable materials has required
a complicated system of mechanical
accommodations.
That is both more complex and less
stable than the new discovery, as well
as more expensive.

Blue Whale Threat
NEW DELHI: Russian social network
Vkontakte, where the suicidal online
"game" Blue Whale+ is believed to have
originated, was blocked on certain
internet service provider networks
on Tuesday. Internet users accessing
the website through ACTFibernet in
Bengaluru and Chennai, as well as
YouBroadband in Bengaluru reported
that visiting the its URL vk.com
resulted in a page bearing the message:
"The URL has been blocked as per
the instructions of the Competent
Government Authority/in compliance
to the orders of the Court of Law." A
senior official in the union ministry of
electronics and information technology
(MeitY) confirmed the block.
While blocked on some networks,
vk.com was accessible on several other
mobile internet networks such as Idea,
Airtel, Vodafone, Jio etc on Tuesday
afternoon.
"Our strategy has advantages
for simple fabrication, scalable
manufacturing, high-density
integration, large strain tolerance and
low cost," Yu said.
Researchers created the electronic
skin and used it to demonstrate
that a robotic hand could sense the
temperature of hot and iced water in
a cup.
The skin also was able to interpret
computer signals sent to the hand and
reproduce the signals as American
Sign Language, they said.
Artificial skin is just one application,
the discovery of a material that is soft,
bendable, stretchable and twistable
will impact future development in
soft wearable electronics, including
health monitors, medical implants
and human-machine interfaces,
researchers said.
"We foresee that this strategy of
enabling elastomeric semiconductors
by percolating semiconductor
nanofibrils into a rubber will advance
the development of stretchable
semiconductors," researchers said
"It will move forward the
advancement of stretchable electronics
for a wide range of applications, such
as artificial skins, biomedical implants
and surgical gloves," they said.
The study was published in the
journal Science Advances.

BENGALURU: Amazon is set to go
head with rival Flipkart with dates of
its Great Indian Festival on the same
day as Big Billion Days (BBD), starting
September 20-24.
However, as a first, the company
will provide 12 hours early access to
its deals to the Prime customers from
September 20, 12 noon. Another rival
this year, Paytm Mall, may also begin
