The Quarterly Review
Hello Readers,
The year is winding down. I
cannot believe how quickly time
is flying for me. Has 2017 been
all that you expected? I am
finding it full of wonderful
surprises.
Book Festivals have consumed
most of my Spring and Summer.
I have enjoyed meeting new
readers, my peers and aspiring
authors throughout my travels.
The experience has been
fulfilling and humbling.
Your feedback is greatly
appreciated for those who care
to share. Of course, I always
look forward to hearing from

Independence Day
Happy 4 th of July.
I have to say that I had no idea of
how to celebrate the holiday.
There are so many people out and
about showing everyone their
American pride.
Usually, I stay home because I
believe it to be safer than being
out and about. I was so wrong. I
had such a great time
fellowshipping with others in
Centennial Olympic Park. The
show lineup was entertaining.
Cee Cee Peniston took me back to
when I was a girl with her hit song
“Finally.” Bobby Brown is
showing his age but he is always
entertaining and the other folks
who did medleys from famous
singers made the show. The
fireworks were spectacular.
I think that I will do it again next
year.

Supporting a Friend in
Need
My good friend OCK (One
Cool Kat on the Harmonica)
has a private party gig. He
invites me along to record his
performance. I assist as he
does his warm-up number.
There is a crowd of twenty
odd people in attendance.
The dynamic of the melding
of different personalities in
the room intrigue me to no
end. The eclectic
combination of viewpoints
and self expression compels
me to make a few of these
mixtures a character in my
upcoming murder mystery.
This tag-a-along is a rich
experience for me. The
hostess was lovely and
welcoming. Her guest were
entertaining and thought
provoking. A good time was
had by all.

Over Forty, Fit and
Fabulous Fashion Show
This event was a pleasant
addition to my list of must
attends in the month of July.
These ladies were certainly giving
it all that they had. I enjoyed the
production immensely.
My good friend OCK (One Cool
Kat on the Harmonica) was on
the list of entertainers for the
evening and he killed it.
New adventures keep the
creative juices flowing and boy
did this event give me a few new
ideas for characters in my
upcoming murder mystery
entitled It all Happened on
Techwood Drive slated for
release in 2018.
I can only hope to be blessed
with same agility as these ladies
when I reach the age of the
gracious beauties.

Atlanta Kick Back Event
As much as I wanted to be a
part of this event, I figured
that I can lend support to a
few notable authors that I
have come to know. The
sooner we learn that it can’t
always be about ourselves
the more we grow.
First stop is my comrade from
the neighboring state of
Alabama, C.D. Blue. She
writes romance novels that
have her audience
captivated. Happy to have
her as a peer.
Next, I met a lovely author by
the name of C. Michael
Forsyth and I am giving him a
read.
With so many authors in one
location, it was hard to
choose who to patronize.

Birthday Celebration
My granddaughter is in preschool.
I wanted to surprise
her by showing up to read a
book to her class. It is her turn
to get cupcake treats for her
classroom.
Unfortunately, when I arrived,
much to my surprise, she was
not in class that day. She is now
four-years-old.
I had to go deliver them to her
home. She got to enjoy some
with her younger cousin. The
cutie is pleased with her
Grammie’s selection.
I told her that I would come
back to her school and read to
her class on another occasion.

Classic Weekend at NSU
Each time I do a book vending
event, I try to add something
new to my presentation.
Whether it is just in my setup or
potential reader engagement.
This time I was bit more
forward with those who stop by
my table. I got a few more
names for the my email
marketing list.
The main book that readers had
much to say about is How I
Wish I had my Mother.
The atmosphere was light and
fun. The whole Norfolk State
University campus was buzzing
with excitement.
The battle of the Bands has
become an annual tradition.
The drumline was outside
practicing before the
competition starts.

Greetings Anyone
I had the pleasure of working
next to Sabrina of
Sabrinahandmadecards this
weekend. She was a hit with
the crowd. Her handmade
greeting cards collections are
outstanding. If you are ever in
need of a handmade limited
edition. She is the one to
contact.
There were many potential
clients who stopped to marvel
at the craftsmanship exhibited
in each of the wide variety of
card choices.
She has another event in
October and I am sure that she
will woo everyone who comes
to her booth.

A Spiritual Experience
We took a trip to the Swrandrini
Mandir Temple. It is a local
place of worship that mimics the
Taj Mahal in India. The
architecture is breathtaking.
We participated in the
afternoon prayer session and
toured the temple to see all the
artifacts. I would recommend
this attraction to anyone visiting
the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.
Spiritual oneness is a welcome
change in my routine. After the
visit I feel light and have an new
openness.
I wonder if I have it in me to
create a Hindi love story. The
setting could be in Indonesia
and the main characters could
be from different faiths. Visiting
new places always stirs new
ideas for book development.

BWABC Literary
Author Book Signing
Initially, I wanted to attend the
book fair. Due to unforeseen
circumstances, it was cancelled.
I was delighted when I was later
contacted about a limited book
signing event. Happily, I
registered to be part of this
event. I have never been to
Memphis, Tennessee. The ride
was serene with rolling hills and
ridges kissed by nature.
Everyone was warm and
welcoming. I enjoyed speaking
with readers and authors. My
best selling books of the day
were How I Wish I Had My
Mother and Why Grammie,
Why?
Thank you to the Black Writers
and Book Club Literacy group
for having me.

Fall Harvest Festival
I am always well-received when
I have events in the state of
Virginia. This visit was no
different. The location is
perfect for any author looking
for new readers.
The other vendors were all
good people. I was happy to be
with them. My girlfriend who is
like a sister to me suggested
that we attend. If you are ever
looking for someone to
promote your business she is
the founder of ConsiderItSold.
My best-selling book of the day
was Why Grammie, Why?
There were a multitude of great
products. A good time was hade
by all. Thank you Chesapeake
for the warm reception.

The Book Review
I had quite a few books on my
summer reading list this year. In
between creating new content,
I managed to squeeze in my
picks.
The first book that I read was
Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones.
This tale of belonging and
feeling less than is
heartwarming and relatable. I
highly recommend it. The flow
of the storytelling made me feel
as if I were watching a movie of
the week.
The second book that I read
was The Identity Thief by C.
Michael Forsyth. I always like a
good thriller and this story did
not disappoint. It is a roller
coaster ride that you will enjoy.
Next I took a deep dive into the
Art of War. It is a book about
tactical principles to be
victorious in battle. However, I
believe the logic of the codes
can be applied in life.

The Book Review - Part 2
Continuing with my list, I moved
onto The 50 th Law by 50 Cent
and Robert Greene. This book is
about perseverance and all that
is necessary to recognize your
dreams and ambition. It will live
on my reference shelf.
The Paleo Recipes for Beginners
by Sandra White made my list
because who is not interested
in clean healthy eating these
days. The recipes sound tasty.
The philosophy makes sense. I
did try a few. Most of them
required eggs and I have never
been a fan of eggs so I could
not follow it to the letter.
The last book on my list to read
during the summer is that of
someone I met earlier this year.
It is a romance entitled Shards
of the Past by C.D. Blue. This
book was a runner up for a
literature award so I had to
make sure that I made time to
give it a read.

The Book Review - Part 3
I read this book in two days. It is
very rare that I find a read that I
devour in less than a week’s
time. The attention to detail
was masterful. The characters
are believable and each
resonated with me in one form
or another. It can easily become
a movie for the big or small
screen. You have a new fan C.D.
Blue and I will start on her
series in the Fall.
