Gold for Cambridgeshire Dance School
The Jill Bridger School of Dance has won Gold in the Dance School
of the Year Award ‘large school’ category. From thousands of
dance schools eligible to enter across the UK and Europe, principal,
Jill Bridger, was delighted to be shortlisted as a Finalist before
attending the awards ceremony in Exeter on 28 July 2017. “We
were thrilled to win the Gold Award at the end of an outstanding
evening attended by many fellow dance professionals,” says
Jill Bridger.
The Dance School of the Year Awards were founded by
Anne Walker MBE to celebrate the achievements of theatre dance
schools. Anne is a former dance teacher, entrepreneur and
business mentor. She has run many successful businesses including
the dancewear company International Dance Supplies. The judges
Francesca Filpi, Royal Ballet dancer, Paul Haigney, entrepreneur
and Angela Rippon CBE, broadcaster and life-long dance supporter
all attended the event.
The Jill Bridger School of Dance was established in 1988 and has
over 700 students aged 18 months to 18 years with branches in
Cambridge, Cambourne, Hardwick and St Ives. Classes offered
include pre-school Melody Bear classes, RAD ballet and ISTD
modern and tap.
The school ethos is that every child feels welcomed and inspired
with a joy of dance. Jill has been determined from the school’s
earliest days to offer an environment where students can achieve as
much as their natural ability makes possible whilst acquiring many
happy memories in the process. “It is important to me that I get to
know my students as individuals and provide them with a platform
for growth, assisting their development into confident young adults.
I am now personally teaching the children of past pupils and
reminiscing about old school events is an ever-popular pastime.”

Stagecoach Cambridge
Stagecoach Cambridge and Cambourne are preparing to celebrate
the 30th Anniversary of the Stagecoach Performing Arts nationwide
network in 2018. They have many exciting things planned for the
year but most notably they will be taking over the Cambridge Corn
Exchange on the 24th and 25th and every student will get their
chance to perform on stage in front of an audience filled with family

Beauty and the Beast
at The Maltings this Christmas

Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a young girl named Beauty as
she becomes the Beast’s prisoner in order to save her father. As
time goes on, Beauty realises the Beast is not all that bad, but are
her feelings strong enough to keep the Beast alive from the wicked
curse placed upon him by the evil Poison Ivy. Will Fairy Rose be
able to weave her magic to help break the curse? Will Dame Mary
Bakewell and her son, Willy-Do-It, ever get the cooking done?
Celebrating 5 years of professional pantomime in Ely, this ‘Beast’ of

After an amazing summer and achieving a rating of
OUTSTANDING from OFSTED, Barracudas are excited to
announce that they will be running an October Half Term camp at
Hinchingbrooke School in Huntingdon. Children aged 4.5 to 14
years can enjoy an action packed programme of activities including
swimming, archery, fencing, motorsports, arts and crafts and dance
and drama. There are also additional Skills Builder courses such as
Lab Rats, Swim School, Upstage! and Motor Mania that can be
added to the standard package for an extra special experience.
Their early and late clubs offer extended hours of 8-6pm to cover

As parents, we strive to pick good schools and to get to know our
child’s teacher. When it comes to clubs outside school, we don’t
necessarily know how to go about this. For dance classes, all good
dance teachers should be qualified and happy to prove it! Ask the
teacher about their qualifications, research teachers online or
contact the Council for Dance, Education and Training for a list of
Recognised Teachers. Always ask to try or watch a class before you
decide if it’s right for your child.
