needs for local veterans in the community and services other needs such<br />
as Christmas Toys for Veteran’s Children and the annual events celebrating<br />
our brave men and women on Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day.<br />
CYPRESS 5K FUN RUN AND PUPPY PARADE<br />
Cypress and Houston area residents can strengthen their families, their<br />
bodies, their neighborhood school and their dogs at a very fun family<br />
friendly event this fall. Cypress 5K Fun Run and Puppy Parade benefiting<br />
the Performing Arts Department at Spillane Middle School will take place<br />
Saturday, November 18 th at 9 AM at Spillane Middle School, 13403<br />
Spillane Woods Blvd.<br />
The event is the school’s fourth annual Fun Run and will feature a timed<br />
run. You don’t have to be a competitive runner to participate since the race<br />
also features a family run for those pushing strollers or wanting to walk and<br />
a dog walking segment. The race will begin at Spillane Middle School and<br />
go through the Coles Crossing neighborhood. Medals will be awarded in<br />
multiple age brackets and to the first three dogs who cross the finish line.<br />
Early bird registration runs through <strong>October</strong> 28 th for $30 per individual<br />
or $100 for a family of four and includes a commemorative T-shirt. From<br />
Oct. 29 th -Nov. 11 th , registration increases to $35 per individual or $110 for<br />
a family of four and a T-shirt is not guaranteed. Late registration, which<br />
continues until race day, is $40 per individual or $160 for a family of four<br />
and does not include the shirt. Returning this year will be the option to<br />
“Sleep in for the Arts.” Pay the registration fee. Do not participate on Race<br />
Day. Get a t-shirt! Runners who have pre-registered can pick up their<br />
packets Thursday, November 16 th at Spillane Middle School.<br />

Celebration of Hope Dinner and Awards Banquet<br />
Shield Bearer, a local non-profit organization that brings hope and healing<br />
to survivors of trauma, including abused children, women and girls<br />
rescued from human trafficking, veterans and their families and survivors<br />
of domestic abuse, invites you to be part of the Celebration of Hope Dinner<br />
and Awards Banquet! This signature fundraising event will be held on<br />
Tuesday, <strong>October</strong> 10, <strong>2017</strong> at 6:30 PM at 2700 Cypress Creek Parkway.<br />
Proceeds will help fund professional counseling services and prevention<br />

20 TH ANNUAL SALUTE TO THE STARS GALA<br />
The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) will host its 20 th Annual Salute<br />
to the Stars Gala on <strong>October</strong> 19 th at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress<br />
Road). The black-tie, celebratory event will honor 88 CFISD Spotlight<br />
teachers from the 2016-<strong>2017</strong> school year, with one highlighted employee<br />
from each district campus.<br />
Dinner, entertainment, a raffle, live auction and teacher drawings will<br />
be featured throughout the night as elected and school officials join<br />
community and business leaders in giving thanks to the those who give so<br />
much to the students in CFISD. Each spring, CFISD recognizes one teacher<br />
from each of its campuses who represent and exhibit the unique balance<br />
of skill, art and heart in teaching students in his or her subject area or<br />
program. The gala also showcases the talents of CFISD students, including<br />
CFEF scholarship winners as guest speakers. There are scheduled<br />
performances, while culinary arts students will make treats for the guests.<br />
All proceeds raised at the event go to the CFEF, which provides college<br />
scholarships for district students as well as staff development grants to<br />
CFISD. Last year, the event raised approximately $186,000 for scholarships<br />
and development grants, bringing the grand total to more than $2 million<br />
raised since 1998. This year’s underwriter will be Cypress Fairbanks Medical<br />
Center Hospital. Also sponsoring will be IBI Group as the Superintendent<br />
Table Sponsor; ASA Dally, Inc. Structural Engineers and Prairie View A&M<br />
University as the 20 th Anniversary Sponsor; Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union<br />

in the CLC. We will be screening for diabetes, hypertension and obesity.<br />
There will be education (English and Spanish) related to these conditions<br />
and the aftermath of the Harvey Hurricane. There will be face painting and<br />
