CYPRESS 5K FUN RUN AND PUPPY PARADE
Cypress and Houston area residents can strengthen their families, their
bodies, their neighborhood school and their dogs at a very fun family
friendly event this fall. Cypress 5K Fun Run and Puppy Parade benefiting
the Performing Arts Department at Spillane Middle School will take place
Saturday, November 18 th at 9 AM at Spillane Middle School, 13403
Spillane Woods Blvd.
The event is the school’s fourth annual Fun Run and will feature a timed
run. You don’t have to be a competitive runner to participate since the race
also features a family run for those pushing strollers or wanting to walk and
a dog walking segment. The race will begin at Spillane Middle School and
go through the Coles Crossing neighborhood. Medals will be awarded in
multiple age brackets and to the first three dogs who cross the finish line.
Early bird registration runs through October 28 th for $30 per individual
or $100 for a family of four and includes a commemorative T-shirt. From
Oct. 29 th -Nov. 11 th , registration increases to $35 per individual or $110 for
a family of four and a T-shirt is not guaranteed. Late registration, which
continues until race day, is $40 per individual or $160 for a family of four
and does not include the shirt. Returning this year will be the option to
“Sleep in for the Arts.” Pay the registration fee. Do not participate on Race
Day. Get a t-shirt! Runners who have pre-registered can pick up their
packets Thursday, November 16 th at Spillane Middle School.

Celebration of Hope Dinner and Awards Banquet
Shield Bearer, a local non-profit organization that brings hope and healing
to survivors of trauma, including abused children, women and girls
rescued from human trafficking, veterans and their families and survivors
of domestic abuse, invites you to be part of the Celebration of Hope Dinner
and Awards Banquet! This signature fundraising event will be held on

20 TH ANNUAL SALUTE TO THE STARS GALA
The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) will host its 20 th Annual Salute
to the Stars Gala on October 19 th at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress
Road). The black-tie, celebratory event will honor 88 CFISD Spotlight
teachers from the 2016-2017 school year, with one highlighted employee
from each district campus.
Dinner, entertainment, a raffle, live auction and teacher drawings will
be featured throughout the night as elected and school officials join
community and business leaders in giving thanks to the those who give so
much to the students in CFISD. Each spring, CFISD recognizes one teacher
from each of its campuses who represent and exhibit the unique balance
of skill, art and heart in teaching students in his or her subject area or
program. The gala also showcases the talents of CFISD students, including
CFEF scholarship winners as guest speakers. There are scheduled
performances, while culinary arts students will make treats for the guests.
All proceeds raised at the event go to the CFEF, which provides college
scholarships for district students as well as staff development grants to
CFISD. Last year, the event raised approximately $186,000 for scholarships
and development grants, bringing the grand total to more than $2 million
raised since 1998. This year’s underwriter will be Cypress Fairbanks Medical
Center Hospital. Also sponsoring will be IBI Group as the Superintendent
Table Sponsor; ASA Dally, Inc. Structural Engineers and Prairie View A&M
University as the 20 th Anniversary Sponsor; Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union
