Your road to active living starts at Covenant Village of Northbrook
Most adults understand the
importance of exercise for overall
health. But what about the
other aspects of wellness, beyond
fitness?
Residents at Covenant Village
of Northbrook, a 55-acre senior
living community, have access
to a complete range of resources,
events and programs designed
to promote active aging and
achieve whole-person wellness.
“There is a common misconception
that wellness is onedimensional,
focusing only on
fitness,” Executive Director
Neil Warnygora said. “At Covenant
Village, we address eight
dimensions of wellness through
our LifeConnect wellness philosophy:
community, emotional,
intellectual, physical, resident/
staff involvement, social, spiritual
and vocational.”
According to the 2016 National
Wellness Benchmarks Report
by the International Council on
Active Aging, participants in
wellness programs enjoy a high
quality of life. More than half
of residents who participate in
wellness programs are “very satisfied”
with their overall quality
of life in the community.
“We operate with a residentcentered
philosophy,” Warnygora
said. “Our culture supports
active aging at any age and ability.”
Covenant Village offers a
variety of choices to help residents
continue living, learning,
growing and challenging themselves
— from dining options,
programs and day trips to educational
classes, physical activities
and volunteer opportunities both
on campus and within the community.
Dining
The community offers monthly
meal plan options and flexible
dining times. Menu selections
are updated regularly and
include daily specials in addition
to weekly lunch and dinner
menus. The executive chef
prepares meals that are delicious
and healthy. Residents can dine
together in the bistro or dining
room, or even take food to go.
Learning
Residents can take part in
foreign-language classes and
art classes, as well as attend
on-campus theater and musical
performances. A raised-bed gardening
space is available for the
green thumbs in the community.
Volunteering
Throughout the community’s
history, residents have made
a commitment to give back to
communities in the Northbrook
area. Community-minded individuals
on campus serve as educators
or volunteer for a variety
of outreach activities. Intergenerational
programs connect residents
with area youth.
Staying Active
An on-site personal trainer; exercise
equipment; group classes,
including T’ai Chi; and swimming
are all available to Covenant
Village residents. They can
also join the hiking group or access
the neighboring YMCA for
a change of scenery.
“We are a community of doers,”
Warnygora said. “We understand
that when we take care
of our bodies, we’re also taking
care of our minds.”
Covenant Village of Northbrook,
located at 2625 Techny
