editor’s By Brenda Hill Labor of love... Works of faith... Persevering hope... Seated from L-R: Jasmine Moore, Brenda Hill, Leslie Thomas, Vicky Parker and Kimberly Guillory. I was invited by Vicky Parker, Founder/CEO of Rising Above, a nonprofit organization that provides information with supportive services for single mothers, to come and lunch and learn about their issues. I was introduced to Kimberly Guillory, Founder/CEO of Silent Footprints, a nonprofit organization that offers support to mothers who suffered pregnancy loss (ectopic, miscarriage) or the loss of a child. These single mothers expressed concern about several issues such as, end of natural life, lack of insurance benefits for still borns, talking around loss, rising cost of living, affordable housing, the great need for male mentoring, and their deepest feelings of empathy for mothers and their families affected by areawide shootings and loss of life, such as the recent shooting death of a 10 year old and the 17 year old who remains hospitalized. Leslie Thomas joined us and spoke about the issues that comes with working two jobs that pulls you away from family and the need for more education including financial and budgeting literacy. Logan's Roadhouse was a welcoming atmosphere to have such an inspiring moment with these women of compassion.
