The mid-season placing of the event left<br />

some riders frightened of damaging their<br />

title chances in EnduroGP. It’s fair to say that<br />

no-one expected the slightly inexperienced<br />

squad of largely national-level riders to be<br />

able to challenge for the podium (as Team<br />

GB did last year, finishing in second place,<br />

just three and a half minutes behind winners<br />

USA). But incredibly, due to their perseverance<br />

and consistency the Brit Boys brought<br />

home a very respectable fifth place in World<br />

and fourth in Junior.<br />

Heading into the rain and chilly winds<br />

on the penultimate night of the Six Days to<br />

check out the ‘Final Cross’ it was difficult to<br />

imagine how they would fit the estimated<br />

15,000 fans into the limited spectator areas<br />

but, as is often the case, this last act of the<br />

2017 ISDE was both exciting and enthralling<br />

despite France’s huge lead in the Trophy<br />

category.<br />
