A talented, young getaway driver (Yes, his name is “B-A-B-Y, Baby” (Ansel
Elgort). At least, that’s the name he gives people when asked, although he’s
more often ignored. He’s the nearly silent getaway driver for a robbery syndicate
managed by Doc (Kevin Spacey), who organizes the crime, hires three
criminals, and then puts them in Baby’s car. You see, Baby can drive. But he
needs music to do it. After a car accident as a kid left him with tinnitus, he
spends the vast majority of his waking hours with ear buds in his ears to
drown out the ringing. And the world around him moves to the music on one
of his many iPods—he has various ones for different moods. Sometimes the
world seems to respond to his choice, sometimes his choice seems to influence
the world around him—either way, music is as essential to the success
of “Baby Driver” as it was to “La La Land,” maybe more.
Sleek, rhythmic, intricate and synced to the smallest of details. Baby Driver is
the quintessential example of the formulaic beauty of music and film. Masterfully
executed by Wright and a colorful and powerhouse cast of characters,
the film is as dazzling as it is precise; making for a personal best as well as
one of the best films of the year.
From the editor
This has been a bit of a rushed job so
sorry if there are any typos or errors
and if anything has been missed out. I
have had a couple of days in hospital—all
well now but my son Alan is
in GHUHospital, not at all well. If anyone
wants to send him a cheer up
message he would love that, either on
his facebook page or email him on
narcos101@hotmail.com
Others we can support are members
Pam Marsh, Pam Hawthorne, Ian and
Julie Young, Vanessa Bull, all of
whom need our best wishes. Hope
there are not too many others that I am
unaware of but they too are in our
thoughts.
Warrick

Sunday
19th November
5.50pm for 6.00pm
Strictly Ballroom
is a 1992 Australian
romantic comedy
film directed and co-written
by Baz Luhrmann. The film,
Luhrmann's début, is the first in
his The Red Curtain Trilogy of
theatre-motif-related films; it was
followed by Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge!.
Strictly Ballroom is based on a critically acclaimed stage
play originally set up in 1984 by Luhrmann and fellow students
while he was studying at the National Institute of Dramatic
Arts in Sydney. An expanded version of the play became
a success at the Czechoslovakian Youth Drama Festival
in Bratislava in 1986, and in 1988 it made successful
season at Sydney's Wharf Theatre, where it was seen by
Australian music executive Ted Albert and his wife Antoinette.
They both loved it, and when Ted Albert soon after
set up the film production company M&A Productions with
ex-Film Australiaproducer Tristram Miall, they offered
Luhrmann to transform his play into a film. He agreed on
the condition that he would also get to direct it
