Canary Wharf
Nigel Ross’ work provides a functional element with his
sculptural benches, here found in an urban setting, Cross
Way and Arbor are two benches, each carved by hand from
single tree trunks and take inspiration from the rhythms and
energy of nature.
Ron Arad’s Windwand is a 50-metre high, red carbon fibre
needle and is nearly as tall as some of the buildings that surround
it. It is designed to flex gently in the wind, subverting one’s
expectations of what tall objects in this area should do, the work
crosses the boundaries between art, design and architecture.
To reinforce this ‘exemplary environment’ and create a sense
of community there is a thriving Arts and Events programme
consisting of over
180 music, dance,
…a sense of
community…
comedy, art, fashion,
sport, food events
and more, most of which
are free. There is always
something going on that will appeal whatever your taste,
including ice skating in winter or car shows and jazz
festivals in summer.
