membranes; its Vitamin C is responsible
for growth and repair of tissue
throughout the body while its Vitamin B1
(Thiamin) converts carbohydrates into
glucose for the body to use as energy.
Donkey milk’s Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
helps convert nutrients from food into
usable bodily energy and to maintain
healthy metabolism. Vitamin E is good
for protecting body tissue from damage
caused by free radicals that play a role
in ageing.
The lysozyme present in donkey’s milk
protects flora in the digestive system and
creates a conducive environment for the
uptake of nutrients. That environment
also inhibits the growth of bacteria
that causes diarrhoea in children.
Another essential mineral is selenium,
which is important for the protection of
cell membranes. In addition to being
nutritious, donkey’s milk increases the
metabolic rate and thus burns unwanted
fat relatively quickly.
But what inspired this article was the
creation of donkey’s milk powder and a
medicinal capsule. A recent telephonic
conversation with Visagie revealed that
his company had acquired a machine
that converts donkey’s liquid milk into
powder that is expected to reach the
market at the beginning of September
2018 and the capsules in the course of
the same month.
In ancient times, donkey’s milk was
used as a moisturising agent because
it has properties that induce skin
regeneration and softening. Donkey’s
milk is a natural cleanser and is easily
absorbed into the skin. It has properties
that soothe bumps and pimples and is
ideal for use as an aftershave balm. It
is said that Queen Cleopatra owed her
eternal youthfulness to bathing in donkey
milk.
According to Visagie, donkey’s milk
has been used for centuries to alleviate
asthma, arthritis, sugar diabetes and
heart disease, to name but a few
ailments. Research conducted at
UB has confirmed that donkey’s milk
reduces the risk of suffering a stroke
and heart disease. Meanwhile, Visagie’s
company is working with cardiac disease
specialist Professor Kiran Bhagad, who
actually encourages his patients to drink
donkey’s milk. Those who know will
go further and say eating donkey meat
keeps the doctor away.
