Was man nicht alles gerne hätte – eine tolle Karriere als Tänzerin, ein Musikinstrument
oder einfach einen Vater, der in Kindheit und Jugend da ist. Viele Sehnsüchte also in
den Kurzfilmen dieses Programms, aber die Umstände erschweren immer wieder die
Erfüllung. Der Krieg hallt nach, die finanzielle Lage ist mies und ja, auch der Daddy hatte
seine Gründe, wieso er eines Tages die Familie verließ. Da hilft nur genau hinschauen,
nachfragen, nicht den Kopf hängen lassen – so ein Film kann manches klären. Erzählt
wird vom Hoffen und Wünschen, bis die Traumtänzer böse scheitern oder vielleicht ihre
Welt besser verstehen und die Aufmerksamkeit bekommen, die sie verdient haben.

To have or have not – that is the question, especially in this program. A little girl
wants to have a career as a dancer; other, older girls are already dancers, but in a
strip club. Two boys want to have a beautiful instrument to play away the ravages of
war. And a daughter just wants to have a father. At least, she wants him to be there
for her now and find out why he was absent for all those years. Longing everywhere.
But the circumstances make these wishes (almost) impossible. What’s possible?
Taking a close look, asking the right questions, remaining hopeful, cheerful – and yes,
cinema might be the right medium for this endeavor. Sometimes, failure is inevitable,
but in the end, the searchers may find a better understanding of the world surrounding
them – and get the attention they deserve.
