Fourteen Women The Countess of Montrose. English mode, reserved and cool. La Contessa di Montruzzi. Northern Italian mode, warm and accessible. La Comtesse de Montruex. French mode, arrogant, mysterious, elegant, aristocratic, sophisticated, the connoisseur, class conscious, confident of innate superiority, selfish, dispassionately passionate, indifferent to other people’s opinions. The Steel Magnolia. The lady, discrete, classy, cultured, genteel, appears vulnerable outside but tough underneath, manipulative, materialistic, conscious of how other people see her, controlled and in control simultaneously, noblesse oblige - the lady of the manor, kind, conscious of other people’s feelings, family traditions and honors, Southern plantation mentality, asexual appearance. The Artist. Creative, sensitive, live and let live attitude, committed to own vision, controversial life style, non-materialistic, enjoys risk and excitement, Avant Garde, liberal, sexually passionate. The Intellectual. Professional, didactic, well read, cynical, often plays the devil’s advocate, radical, attracted to minds not bodies, revolutionary, likes to shock people and observe effects, iconoclastic, sexually experimental. The Writer. Perceptive, understanding, compassionate, introspective, humanistic, observant, tolerant, expressive, feelings are important, questioning, imaginative, rich fantasy life, anxious to experience life in all aspects, aware of other people’s motivations, sees humor in life, sexually warm. Hot Pants. Sexy, earthy, sensual, fun, humorous, loves to dance, likes four letter words, likes rock and roll and country and western music. The Student. Attentive, eager, malleable, eager, conscientious, thorough, receptive. The Dilettante. Knows a little bit about a lot of things, able to pick up terminology and basic concepts quickly, “talks the talk,” superficial, reflects attitude of the group, lacks commitment, opportunistic, insincere. Chairman of the board. Executive, self-assured, assertive, decisive, efficient, demanding, in control, confident, responsible. The Mother and Wife. Self-effacing, superficial, dutiful, dependable, loyal, trustworthy, warm, understanding, loving, controlled, generous, denies own feelings and needs in deference to others. The Screaming Mimi. Volatile temper, frustrated, full of rage and resentment, frequently depressed, insecure, low self-esteem, out of control, sarcastic, hateful. The Little Girl.
