Unit 3 – Sounds and Textures
Students will study the following:

semitones are used to create effect.
Composing using consonance and
dissonance.
Performing using Parallel motion in
pairs for peer assessment.
Compositions based on Parallel
Motion using a given structure.
Group performance
Unit 4 – Performance and
Composition skills
Students will study the following:
General Music theory and how to
read Musical scores
Performing using single finger
chords and backing tracks as a
group and a class
Vocal riffs and building layers
Learning to read Bass clef notation
and performing with the Left hand
on a keyboard
Developing performing and
ensemble skills
Understanding how chords are
constructed and be able to use them
to harmonise simple melodies
Unit 5 – World Music – Indian and
Gamelan Music
Students will study the following:
The elements, instruments, notation
and Musical traditions that are used
in Indian Music
How to improvise
Compositions and performances are
created using the above
Brief introduction to Bhangra Music
As above with Gamelan Music
Gamelan Music created via an online
Music technology programme
Unit 6 – Chords and Blues
Students will study the following:
How chords are constructed
Performing the Primary Chords
using full finger chords and single
finger chords
Harmonising melodies using these
chords
