Ghanaian
filmmakers
go online
BY RAMSON
ACQUAH-HAYFORD
THE POWER of the
internet and social
media has brought a
revolution in the
work of various disciplines
and professions
and filmmakers are not
lagging behind. It is for this reason
that some young Ghanaian
filmmakers have resorted to harnessing
the power of YouTube,
an online video streaming platform,
to broadcast their work, a
mini-series titled ‘Whatsup Online
Web Series.’
“As time ages, there are
changes that arise but not all
these changes are necessarily bad;
the internet revolution is here and
we have to embrace it. In recent
times young people have built careers
on YouTube and other social
media platforms. This, to a
large extent, shows us the power
social media wields and we are
ready to use it to our advantage,”
Horla Manuvor, creator of the
show, stated in an interview with
the DAILY HERITAGE.
According to him ‘Whatsup
Web series’ tells the story of three
young gentlemen - Abu Amoako,
Kweku Dawey and Chris Agboka
-¬ and their adventures as students
who are on a self-discovery
journey, exploring their curiosity
about the opposite sex and the
scope of their talents.
“The series is created with the
intention of educating young
people. It is tailored to have an
appeal to tertiary students since it
mostly tackles subjects they can
relate to. People from different
backgrounds normally find themselves
in a common background
and since they usually want to
have a sense of belonging, sometimes
they succumb to peer pressure.
These are some of the
issues we seek to address in our
film,” Mr Manuvor cited.
He concluded that the web series
has seen two successful seasons
completed and is ready to
release the third season. The first
season was able to feature legendary
actors like Adjetey Annan,
popularly known as ‘Pusher’, and
Paulina Oduro and there are plans
of bringing more of them on
board in the third season.
People with tattoo are uncultured — Tima
GHANAIANS WHO have tattoos
will definitely not be happy
with ‘Kumkum Bagya’ host,
Cynthia Tima Yeboah, after
watching her on Celebrity Ride
With Zionfelix show because
she has spoken strongly against
individuals who have inked images
on their body.
The host of popular telenovela
show, ‘KumKum Bagya’ believes
persons who have tattoos
on their body are not cultured.
The voice-over artiste added
that she also has a perception
that individuals who have tattoo
are not serious.
Talking about the negative
effects celebrities are likely to
face after writing on their skin,
the actress opined that brands
do not want to associate with
such individuals because customers
hate tattoo and that will
make the stars lose endorsement
deals from giant companies.
After bombarding people
with tattoos, Tima Kumkum, as
she is popularly known, started
lashing at people who drink and
smoke.
The mother of two stated
emphatically that she has issue
with people who smoke. She
quickly added that she sees people
who inhale and exhale the
smoke of tobacco or a drug as
“bad”.
Most gospel musicians’
are ‘hypocrites’ – Bulldog
THE CHIEF Executive
Officer of BullHaus Entertainment,
Lawrence
Nana Asiamah Hanson,
known in
showbiz as Bulldog,
has said
that most of
Ghanaian
gospel musicians
are ‘hypocrites’.
Speaking on
Daybreak Hitz
on Hitz FM, the
former manager of
Shatta Wale asserted
that a larger crop of
the gospel musicians refrain
from speaking their
minds to better the
country, hence soaked in
‘hypocrisy’.
He says he believes
gospel musicians across
the country portray the
‘holier-than-thou’ attitude,
hence leaving the
secular musicians to address
matters that affect
the society.
“Most of them
(gospel musicians) are
like us in the secular
business - hypocrites.
They can’t speak their
•Bulldog
minds.
They have never used
their music to influence
us positively…” he told
host Andy Dosty.
He continued that,
“There are a lot of
things going on in this
country that I feel they
should be able to sing,
preach about and be
controversial about.
From politics to sports
or whatever, but they do
nothing. It’s the secular
music guys who tend to
and ‘Always on my
Mind’ (2015).
According to Hammer,
he is on a studio
tour discovering new
sound kits and bringing
himself up to speed on
new techniques.
Hammer anticipates
the release of this historic
joint album in
March 2018.
come out sometimes to
speak about the ills in
society…” he maintained.
In spite of this,
Bulldog advised
various gospel
artistes to review
and understand
the
showbiz industry
as a business
entity with lot of
controversial
concerns.
“Jesus was a
controversial character,
he defied all odds.
They have got it wrong.
Christianity is a huge
and radical business and
if you can’t be radical
you should forget it.
They use the word of
God to intimidate and
be timid…” he said.
“If they want to be
controversial doing
gospel music, they
should actually preach,
push and fight for the
agenda of the word.
People died for it. Jesus
Christ died for it…” he
maintained.
