DAILYHERITAGE.COM.GH Sports DAILY HERITAGE THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2017 We won't be complacent — Coach Basigi BY ROLAND .B. TAMAKLOE HEAD COACH of the Black Princesses, Yusif Basigi, has said his team are leaving Ghana for Kenya to honour a second leg match against the Harambee Starlets and that they would do everything in their power to beat the Kenyans despite the superior goal advantage of the Princesses. He stated that the players attach seriousness to the game and so are taking nothing for granted even though the Black Princesses hold a commanding lead over their opponents. The Princesses are going into the game with a 5-0 goal advantage over the Kenyans in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup to be held in France. He told the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview at Prampram on Tuesday that the team understood what had to be done to get them to France next year. Kulchirie Rafia Alhassan, an attacker for the team, said the atmosphere in camp was very positive as the team remained focused ahead of the second leg and had already disregarded any thoughts of them holding a commanding lead over their Kenyans. She said training had been very good and that they were being pushed really hard to raise their endurance level due to the dry atmosphere they expect in Kenya. “Even though some players were carrying little knocks, the medical team are doing their best to get the players back on their feet,” she said. Priscilla Adobea, Princesses’ leading attacker, also added that though their Kenyan counterparts are quick on the ball, she believes with their preparations they would secure victory in Kenya. She expressed the hope that her goal-scoring form that helped her bag four goals against them in the first leg in Ghana would be seen in Kenya. The Black Princesses are expected to leave the country today for Kenya and honour the match on sunday. • Coach Yusif Basigi Great Ambition to organise ‘justify your inclusion’ BY ANNETTE S. YEBOAH •The squad of Great Ambition FC THE GREAT Ambition Football Club at Kaneshie in Accra will organise a special justification exercise to attract new players for the coming season. The programme, meant for young players aged 16 to 19 years, comes off at the Kaneshie/Bubuashie Bishop School Park from Monday, November 20, 2017, and ends on Friday, November 24, 2017, in the morning at 8:00a.m. According to Reginald Agyeman Prempeh, a member of the media and communications staff of the club, this is an opportunity for players who dream of playing in Ghana for experience, and later move out to bigger clubs in Europe or America. He said Great Ambition FC has a unique policy of grooming young talents and use their contacts with top international football agents and scouts to help them get clubs abroad. He said Ghana’s unfortunate exit from the FIFA World Cup would affect the development of young players, but he said he was happy for the Black Starlets, the national juvenile team, who went to the World Under- 17 and reached the quarter finals in India last month. According to him, the raw talents in Ghana need to be groomed to become real super stars and that is what Great Ambition FC wants to do. Ghana to host world title fight on Jan. 6 AFTER NEARLY 30 years, Ghana is about to host another world championship fight for the first time since December of 1988, when Azumah Nelson defended his WBC super featherweight title against Sidnei Dal Rovere in the country. Ghanaian boxer ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe will be stepping into the ring with a world title of one of the major sanctioning organizations on the line. Dogboe (17-0, 11 KOs) will take on tough Mexican contender Cesar Juarez (20-5, 15 KOs) of Mexico in what is arguably the most significant fight ever to be hosted in Ghana on January 6, 2018. The Dogboe-Juarez fight will be for the WBO interim junior featherweight title, a belt currently held by Jesse Magdaleno. However, after Magdaleno was injured while training for his fight with Juarez, the WBO ordered an interim title fight to be held between the next two available contenders - Juarez and Dogboe (Marlon Tapales was unavailable). Although the fight initially looked like it would end up in Mexico, Rising Star Africa Promotions won the purse bid and finalised the fight to take place on January 6, 2018 at the Bukom Boxing Arena. “All we have been praying for is a world title and finally I have been given that opportunity,” Dogboe said of his upcoming fight with Juarez during the WBO Congress aboard the Norwegian Sky cruise ship. Dogboe’s last victory, a dominant sixth round TKO over Argentina’s Javier Chacon in a fight for the WBO International title, took place in the same arena and there is little question that the gritty Mexican will be in a hostile territory once he steps into the ring at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
