first mentioned in Uzbekistan<br />

The first cotton factory,Tashkent, 1874<br />

material was purchased, which was,<br />

moreover, bought at much lower<br />

price. From that processed cotton the<br />

right goods were manufactured on<br />

Russian factories. Thus, Uzbekistan<br />

served Russia as a raw material<br />

supplier for a long time until<br />

becoming independent.<br />

First cotton processing plant<br />

was constructed in 1847, Tashkent.<br />

Few years later, such plants were<br />

constructed in Andijan, Kattakurgan,<br />

Samarkand, Margilan, Kokand<br />

and Namangan as well, that led to<br />

enormous technological development<br />

of textile industry in Uzbekistan.<br />

In 1910 Turkestan region provided<br />

43 per cent of the cotton consumption<br />

in Russia.<br />

In the period of 1914–1915 the<br />

harvest gathered provided 70 per cent<br />

— 249 thousand tons of lint cotton<br />

cotton to Russia was not economically<br />

profitable, for this reason, cotton gin<br />

plants were constructed in Turkestan.<br />

Thus, primary cotton processing<br />

industry took place. In 1908 there<br />

were 204 factories in Turkestan, by<br />

the year of 1915 their number had<br />

reached 235.<br />

The Fergana Valley became the<br />

largest manufacturer of cotton in<br />

Central Asia, that for instance, in<br />

1913 gathered 62 per cent of the<br />

whole amount of shipped cotton. Two<br />

thirds of cotton plants were located in<br />

Turkestan.<br />

In 1913 a giant cotton-oil-pressing<br />

partnership Besh-Bosh was formed,<br />

which purchased more than 30 per<br />

cent of cotton produced in Turkestan<br />

region, exported 80 thousand tons<br />

of cotton lint and cultivated 160<br />

thousand of seeds.<br />

It should be high<strong>light</strong>ed, that<br />

despite enormous production<br />

volumes in 1925–1991 in Uzbekistan<br />

cotton lint was still exported<br />

to other countries as a raw material.<br />

Ready-made textile products<br />

had to be imported from other<br />

countries, which of course was not<br />

economically profitable. The textile<br />

industry was not developed. Lack of<br />

development in terms of technique<br />

and technology, poor innovation and<br />

investment activities, high power<br />

consumption, labour-intensive,<br />

raw material capacity led to poor<br />

competitiveness of domestic goods<br />

produced from cotton.<br />

Since our independence, the<br />

decision of developing textile<br />

industry has been made, which<br />

had to be done from virtually<br />

zero. Since 1995 for this purpose<br />

more than $2,5 billion of foreign<br />

investments have been attracted.<br />

2006 it had reached $300 million,<br />

by 2011 — $650 million, and in the<br />

year of 2015 exceeded $1 billion in<br />

the same currency.<br />

Thus, Uzbekistan has done much<br />

work and fundamentally change<br />

the policy of the textile industry<br />

in the Republic. Over the years of<br />

independence, factories with great<br />

productive potential have been<br />

created.<br />

Our collocutor is a very unique individual. Scientific figure, Doctor of Science, who built the foundation for family business,<br />

brought up children who can serve as an example for other people, a modest and an extremely fair person. The story of his life<br />

is resembles a tortuous mountain path full of difficulties, complex tasks and happy moments. Today, he is speaking about his<br />

life guidance and main achievements.<br />

ABOUT SCIENCE<br />

I am a Doctor of Science, I graduated from the Tashkent<br />

State University, Faculty of Physics, with degree in Radio<br />

physics. and my career in science began in the Institute of<br />

Cybernetics of Academy of Science of Uzbekistan.<br />

From 1971 until 1978 I worked on my dissertation and<br />

simultaneously taught Physics in Polytechnic Institute. My<br />

traineeship in MSU changed a lot. It was there where I met<br />

wonderful people, professionals, who taught me a lot and<br />

headed my career in the right direction. At the end of my<br />

training in MSU I was given the control task consisting of<br />

five points. The tasks were not simple, requiring time and<br />

a lot of efforts. But I agreed without a second thought. I<br />

came back to Tashkent, where my family and work were<br />

NEED TO WORK HONESTLY, ONLY IN THIS CASE,<br />

THERE WILL BE BENEFIT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL,<br />

FOR THE FAMILY AND THE GOVERNMENT.<br />

waiting for me. It took me two years to complete all the<br />

points of the given task.<br />

After two years of work, I created necessary<br />

technology. I was already married in those days, and<br />

support and understanding of my wife helped me a lot.<br />

As the time was uneasy, low salary, I should maintain<br />

my family, build a house and work on the creation of<br />

technological project.

BUSINESS, I MUST BE BRINGING IT TO THE END.<br />

FAMILY HEARTH<br />

I got married at the age of 27, sometimes<br />

it was difficult to maintain the family, but<br />

nevertheless, we were happy. My wife was<br />

always on my side, she supported me in<br />

everything. And she gave me 4 wonderful<br />

children.<br />

I stroke out on my own, I never asked<br />

anyone for anything. I didn’t avoid any work,<br />

as I don’t like to owe anybody. The same is<br />

about credits: if you took a loan, please, pay<br />

in time. We always follow this rule, and this<br />

factor, unquestionably, impacts on business<br />

success.<br />

After to years I went to Moscow to present the result of<br />

the work done. The technological unit created by me was<br />

unique, complex, I am not boasting at all, but it was an<br />

authorial invention.<br />

It was the working that became a push for the doctoral<br />

thesis defense. And I managed it successfully.<br />

THE FIRST STEP ON THE WAY<br />

TO BUSINESS<br />

To be honest, working, doing science and bearing<br />

responsibility for the family at the same time is difficult,<br />

especially in finances.<br />

And in 1994 I made a decision to leave the science. My<br />

friend — the CEO of Uzbek-Chinese JV specializing on<br />

polypropylene bags production — invited me to pursue<br />

manufacturing. That work was unknown to me without<br />

any relation to science, but I agreed. As a result, within<br />

a short period of time I became the Director of technical<br />

division, and the factory started working at full capacity.<br />

Over time, due to working hard, modernization and<br />

high output the factory passed into my ownership. My<br />

elder son Farkhad advised me to take a loan. And we<br />

managed it! It was in 1996, and we spent the whole<br />

amount of money on modern equipment purchase. We<br />

created everything virtually from zero: production lines,<br />

work space. Moreover, I improved the equipment myself,<br />

my knowledge in Science was of a great help. Such kind<br />

of technical modernization helped the factory to run<br />

faultlessly, and we reimbursed that loan quickly.<br />

I began construct factories, and the questions regarding<br />

client search, sales and contracts were my son’s business.<br />

I consider, particularly on this stage of my life our way<br />

to UZTEX GROUP began.<br />

CHILDREN<br />

The contribution of my children to the business<br />

prosperity is great. I have four children: my sons Farkhad,<br />

Doniyor, Dilshod and my daughter Sadokat. My elder son<br />

Farkhad is our financial <strong>eng</strong>ine, he tackles the problems,<br />

concerning finance. Dilshod is a professional builder, he<br />

is aware of all subtleties and modern trend in this sector,<br />

he managed factories construction. Doniyor is a specialist<br />

in production. He manages all the processes inside<br />

the company, watches cost reduction and productivity<br />

growth. My daughter Sadokat is our support and the best<br />

counselor in everything.<br />

My children are my happiness, the grew up, became<br />

The new generation of the Mamatdjanovs family is<br />

growingwe are preparing our successors. My grandchildren<br />

take interest in our work.<br />

ANSWERING THE QUESTION “HOW TO BRING UP SOCH TALENTED<br />

AND SUCCESSFUL CHILDREN?” I WOULD SAY THAT FIRST OF ALL<br />

IT IS UP TO FATE, IF YOU HAVE A SPARK OF TALENT AND SKILLS<br />

INSIDE, THEN SUCH PERSON WILL BE SUCCESSFUL.<br />

Certainly, something can be corrected though<br />

upbringing. When a child himself is a thought starter, then<br />

a little push can lead to your business being run. Recently<br />

Farkhad has been to Italy where he signed a contract with<br />

Italian business partners, and there was a photo of him<br />

and an Italian in the newspaper. I saw it and trembled<br />

with joy. Can you imagine, they wrote about my son in the<br />

Italian newspaper! And this is just one of his achievements,<br />

but there are lots of them.<br />

I know that my children realize how to work and what<br />

should be emphasized if you are in the charge of a huge<br />

factory, and not just one factory. First of all, it is care for<br />

personnel, providing all the working facilities for the<br />

workforce: hot meals, uniforms, a lounge, sports facilities.<br />

Now it is not just our business, as each plant is hundreds of<br />

work places, hundreds of our staff members’ families, now<br />

it is our duty to take care of people who trust us.<br />

We are doing charity work as well. Thus, before opening<br />

up textile factory in Shavat, we helped a disabled person<br />

in his business start-up by purchasing equipment. And<br />

nowadays, his business is prospering. I and my children<br />

place productivity goals higher than personal ones. The<br />

work absorbs our time and attention. For instance, my son<br />

Dilshod has started to build his house, as before all the<br />

investments were attracted on business development, and<br />

personal wishes were relegated to a later stage.<br />

Sometimes I ask myself: why do I need it? Why to work so<br />

much, if every m inute is time lined? The answer is simple:<br />

business is an inevitable part of our life.<br />

The meaning of life is that if you were born, do something<br />

useful, leave a mark. Time is a great gift, which<br />

should be appreciated.<br />

Knitting and dyeing and finishing<br />

manufacture is located in Chirchik.<br />

The productive capacity constitutes<br />

12,000 tons of geirge and 7,000 tons<br />

of dyed fabric and 4,000 tons of fabric<br />

with rotary printing. From the second<br />

half of 2017 the production of terry<br />

cloth and 14 million terrycloth items<br />

is planned. The fabric is produced<br />

from cotton yarn of domestic<br />

production. The basic range of cotton<br />

and blended fabric have more than<br />

50 names: ribbing (carded/combed),<br />

stockinet structure (supreme),<br />

carded/combed, lacost (twill, carded/<br />

combed), interlock (carded/combed),<br />

french terry and fleece, velour, celadon<br />

and etc.<br />

UZTEX TASHKENT,<br />

2010<br />

The factory is in Tashkent, it<br />

manufactures compact combed,<br />

doubled, open end yarn yarn in the<br />

amount of 6,750 tons a year. The<br />

factory staff members use modern<br />

equipment of world known brands<br />

namely RIETER (Switzerland),<br />

MURATA (Japan). Own laboratories<br />

are equipped with quality control<br />

technologies and certified as<br />

The clothing factory is located<br />

in Chirchik. The activities of the<br />

factory are aimed at the production<br />

of jersey ready-made items, from<br />

The factory is equipped with<br />

modern sewing machines that are<br />

used for sewing and decorating the<br />

2012<br />

Spinning production is located in<br />

Khorazm region, Shavat district. The<br />

productive capacity of this factory is<br />

more than 4,550 tons of combed yarn<br />

per year. This factory is also equipped<br />

with modern technologies, which<br />

make it available to manufacture<br />

products of high quality.<br />

SHOVOT TEKSTIL,<br />

2015<br />

In Khorazm region, Shavat district,<br />

there is also a textile center,<br />

which includes knitting and sewing<br />

manufacture. The spinning factory is<br />

a manufacturer of compact combed,<br />

doubled, open end yarn in the amount<br />

of 8,100 tons per year.<br />

KATQAL’A-TEKS,<br />

2016<br />

The factory is in Khorazm region,<br />

in Uchkurgan city. Hosiery goods<br />

are manufactured here: stockings,<br />

tights, socks. There are more than<br />

2,000 units of the main machinery<br />

being launched on the factory, the<br />

productive capacity comprises<br />

140 million pairs per year. The<br />

production automation system SAP<br />

is set up at the factory, it makes it<br />

possible to monitor the quality and<br />

the optimization of the whole factory<br />

work. In KATQAL’A-TEKS team there<br />

are experts from Italy, Greece and<br />

Turkey, who on regular terms teach<br />

the staff members and upgrade their<br />

One of the new projects is Children’s football<br />

school under Lokomotive football club, that belongs<br />

to AB Uzbekistan Railways.<br />

Lokomotive was founded in 2002, and nowadays<br />

it is the champion of Uzbekistan Major League. In<br />

2006 young footballers’ school was opened at the<br />

club, where children aged 5—13 do their favourite<br />

sport with a great pleasure. Young footballers<br />

participate in local and international competitions.<br />

Thus, they competed against a team from Latvia on<br />

the opponents’ stadium. In addition, they struggled<br />

to win in Malaysia and Turkey.<br />

ECO-BIO TEST the assessment of<br />

individual workplace in realms of<br />

injuriousness and harmful production<br />

factors was carried out. By virtue<br />

of the assessment the report by<br />

Ministry of Labour of the Republic of<br />

Uzbekistan was obtained under which<br />

injury-causing sites and harmful<br />

factors or violations of labour were<br />

not found. However, the certification<br />

organization recommended to provide<br />

the workers <strong>eng</strong>aged in dyeing sector,<br />

with dairy products — 0,5 liters per<br />

person in one working shift.<br />

Moreover, all UZTEX workers are<br />

provided with 4 hot meals (there<br />

are 450 seats in the canteen) and<br />

free medical care. The uniform and<br />

personal protective equipment if it<br />

is necessary are given out twice a<br />

year. Modern changing and shower<br />

rooms are operating productively.<br />

The measures of disinfection and<br />

deratization of workplace are taken<br />

promptly.<br />

We can proudly state that due to<br />

daily preventive work conducted<br />

by safety service and work safety<br />

department (as well as company<br />

managers) no injuries at the<br />

manufacturing have been made since<br />

the company was established.<br />

However, even the most safety<br />

production doesn’t mean that a<br />

worker’s health will be strong. There<br />

are lots of other factors besides<br />

production, where the company<br />

doesn’t bear responsibility, but these<br />

factors can more or less influence<br />

In childhood, I was an ordinary boy:<br />

fan of video games, played football, was<br />

<strong>eng</strong>aged with tennis and swimming, and<br />

from school subjects I adored mathematics.<br />

Entrepreneurship was in my blood,<br />

and I always dreamed of business. For me<br />

it seemed that this was a work perfectly<br />

combined with rest. However, later it<br />

turned out that this is not so. (Laughs.)<br />

I studied at Narkhoz, now it is the<br />

Tashkent State Economic-University.<br />

The study was held like everywhere else,<br />

probably students are fun and relatively<br />

carefree. I remember one case. Once none of<br />

the fellow students did not volunteer to go<br />

to receive scholarship for the whole group:<br />

a huge line, for dinner and do not have time.<br />

Nobody except me. I set the condition: I take<br />

commissions from each group-mate - from<br />

C takers five thousand soums, and there<br />

were thirty-one of them, from B takers three<br />

thousand, there were five of them and from<br />

students with A level, in the number of three<br />

people, nothing. All agreed, and during the<br />

academic year I earned quite well. For the<br />

student, of course.<br />

In UZTEX, I came to work on May<br />

1, 2016. How come? Simply — on foot.<br />

(Laughs.) I immediately fell in love with<br />

my work: courage, when you bargain with<br />

the client, solving problems in production,<br />

building a system - is not this a pleasure?<br />

The most difficult in my work - to establish<br />

business processes and, of course, to look<br />

for orders. The most pleasant thing is to<br />

argue with colleagues, convince them and<br />

convince them and in the end turn out to<br />

be right. UZTEX — company with huge<br />

potential, vertical integration gives us a<br />

great advantage.<br />

Of course, I spend most of my time<br />

In 2016, SAP HANA and UZTEX GROUP<br />

announced the start of a project for a<br />

single system SAP S/4HANA three factories<br />

group: JV UZTEX CHIRCHIK LTD, JV UZTEX<br />

TASHKENT LTD, JV EUROTEX GLOBAL LTD.<br />

This project will be the first introduction of<br />

an innovative performance of SAP platform<br />

in the CIS textile industry. The innovative<br />

SAP S/4HANA platform will allow for a<br />

long-term perspective to support a single<br />

cycle of enterprise management at all<br />

stages: from product concept development<br />

to after-sales service.<br />

In my work there is no monotony, forgive<br />

me, our accounting department! (Smiling.)<br />

My life puts before me such tasks, which<br />

are simply interesting to solve! Almost<br />

higher mathematics, though, when solving<br />

mathematical problems, you do not earn<br />

money. My profession itself is considered<br />

prestigious. Lawyers are respected and<br />

have a lot of advantages in society, they<br />

have the opportunity for excellent career<br />

growth. Most of the top high-paying<br />

positions require just a legal education.<br />

I have been with UZTEX since 2011. A<br />

vacancy was announced and I passed the<br />

interview.<br />

My work is very interesting: there is<br />

diversity and I also like to make calculations<br />

of formulas: translate from the English to the<br />

metric and back. Sometimes it is necessary to<br />

solve many production tasks and manage to<br />

do it simultaneously in a timely manner. But,<br />

when the problems are successfully solved,<br />

when you put experiments and get results<br />

in the form of improving the quality of work,<br />

you realize that this is the real thing!<br />

The equipments we have are at the highest<br />

level — that’s what’s important. My work<br />

demands full return, but due to technical<br />

At JV UZTEX TASHKENT LTD came to work in 2001.<br />

He graduated from Tashkent Institute<br />

of Textile and Light Industry with honours,<br />

leaving the walls of the university as a<br />

technologists of the products of the knitting<br />

industry.<br />

He passed the interview first with the<br />

head of the HR department, and then had<br />

a talk with the chief technologist, after<br />

was taken on a position of the mechanicrepairman<br />

of the textile equipment.<br />

Everyone noticed the spark in the guy:<br />

he always undertook to solve difficult<br />

production problems. But they seemed more<br />

interesting to him than impractible. Constant<br />

monitoring the production processes is not<br />

an easy task, but a young man copes with it<br />

and does it well.<br />

At the moment he works in the specialty<br />

received at the university.<br />

“The textile industry is a huge world”, —<br />

says Khojiakbar. His choice of profession was<br />

predetermined from childhood — all close<br />

relatives of his father worked in the textile<br />

industry of <strong>light</strong> industry. Khojakakar adores<br />

his family, and, of course, he has a dream —<br />

to learn how to fly in an airplane.<br />

She did not immediately find her<br />

professional path: after graduating from<br />

the National University of Uzbekistan<br />

(Slavonic-Philological Faculty), the girl<br />

worked as a teacher at the school, tried<br />

herself in foreign economic activity,<br />

including at the UZTEX CHIRCHIK factory.<br />

But all these professions did not bring<br />

satisfaction.<br />

As a result, Tamila tried herself in<br />

marketing. And then came the realization<br />

― here it is, the dream job!<br />

The girl admires the work subtleties:<br />

about dealing with customers, about<br />

processing orders, and emphasizes<br />

that the most favorite thing in work is a<br />

constant opportunity to learn something<br />

new. Specialization of the marketer<br />

assumes the presence of psychological<br />

skills, and psychology is Tamila’s favorite<br />

inquisitive mind of the girl that Luiza<br />

opened in the Khorezm region, the girl<br />

with her friends came to work and was<br />

accepted. Gulmira immediately proved<br />

Nazakat has always been a singleminded<br />

person, therefore, having<br />

started working at the factory, absorbed<br />

new knowledge like a sponge of<br />

moisture. Having completed training<br />

and acquired the skills of working with<br />

new technological equipment, she was<br />

transferred to the position of laboratory<br />

assistant of the production department.<br />

“I was always encouraged by a sincere<br />

interest in my profession. Working here, I<br />

quickly learned to determine the quality<br />

of cotton and the final product ― yarn.<br />

My work makes my life brighter!”― says<br />

Nazakat. The girl easily overcomes<br />

difficulties in production, believing that<br />
