Prayer Meeting
Prayer Meeting will be held this Wednesday evening, November 29, at 7:00 pm.
Prayer Meeting for the adults and university students will be in the sanctuary, while
Prayer Meeting for our youth will be in the multi-purpose rooms. All are encouraged
to attend. Remember, “much prayer, much power!”
Stewardship Corner
Jesus called the disciples in the midst of their normal lives, as they were busy with
their usual work on the shoreline of a lake that was very familiar to them. He said,
“Come and follow Me!” Though they did not fully recognize the significance of their
response to His summons, they literally dropped what they were doing and followed
Him. You and I may not always recognize the calls of Jesus which come to us, even
those that come on a normal Sabbath as we sit in our customary place. Some calls are
more far-reaching than others, but they come nonetheless. As you return your Tithe
and Combined Budget Offering today to support the ministry of our church, hearing
His call to action, won’t you respond - not merely to what is said by your fellow human
beings - but to what He directs you to do?
Oakwood Adventist Academy (OAA) Building Project
Please be mindful of our financial commitment to the OAA Building Project. Given
our church obligation of $3,000,000.00, the OUC makes a monthly payment to satisfy
this commitment. Let us all support this collective responsibility through our systematic
financial support, which is in addition to our normal Tithe and Combined Budget
Offering. All donations, large or small, are sincerely appreciated. Kindly mark on
your offering envelope, “OAA Building Fund.”
“Restoration 40” - Construction of Family Life Center
Everyone is kindly asked to reach a minimum goal of $1,000.00 per person for our
Family Life Center Building Project, which is inclusive of our “Restoration 40” initiative.
This can be done through a one time gift, systematic monthly gifts, or the solicitation
of donations from family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and businesses
(in addition to your normal Tithe and Combined Budget Offering). If you have
reached your $1,000.00 goal, please feel free to give additional funds. Donations can
be made via your offering envelope and labeled, “Restoration 40.” Thank you.
Square Up with God Month
The month of December has been designated as “Square Up with God” month. We
are all being called to “square up” with God in our Christian Stewardship. Let’s
“square up” in our Time - Church attendance, Talents - Church service, and Treasury
- Church giving (Tithe and Combined Budget). Remember, “you can’t beat God giving
no matter how you try.”
Welcome
On behalf of the Pastoral Staff, Officers, and Members of the Oakwood University Church
(OUC), we would like to extend a special welcome today to all of our visiting friends. We
hope you enjoy your worship experience with us, and please come again.
Condolence
We regret to announce the untimely passing of Menelik Bridgewater, Drake State
University Student, from Bermuda. The Memorial Service will be this evening,
November 25, at 6:00 pm at Royal Funeral Home, 4315 Oakwood Avenue, NW,
Huntsville, AL 35810. All are invited to attend and support the Bridgewater Family with
your attendance. Most importantly, please remember the Bridgewater Family in prayer.
Family Life Ministries
Our “Divorce Care” and “Grief Share” Support Groups will meet today, November 25,
from 5:00 to 6:30 pm in the Moseley Complex.
Save the date!!! Our OUC Couples’ Ministry will be having a “Couples Marriage
Retreat” Weekend on October 12-14, 2018 entitled, “Courageous Hearts!” This retreat
will consist of a three-day, two-night program designed to restore communication and
rekindle affection in marriage. The pace and pressures of life place enormous strains on a
marriage, which often leave couples just “co-existing.” Married couples share the same
house and spilt the bills, but that’s about it. “Courageous Hearts” helps couples rebuild
vital connections in their marriage through clear communication and healthy ways of
resolving conflicts. The cost is $620.00 per couple (includes program, meals, and
lodging). For reservations, please call 706.368.6801, and for program information, please
see Nichole Taylor.
Special Worship Experience - Dr. Barry C. Black
Please plan to be present next Sabbath, December 2, for a special worship experience
featuring the preaching ministry of Dr. Barry C. Black, United States Senate Chaplain,
along with the music ministry of the Oakwood University Aeolians. Kindly invite your
family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and loved ones to join us.
Handel’s Messiah Presentation
In harmony with the holiday season, the musical presentation of Handel’s Messiah will
commence here at the OUC on Sabbath, December 9, during the Divine Worship
Experience (11:00 am). Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to be in
attendance.
Health Nugget - Gift Giving during the Holidays
During this holiday season, you can show love and care with any gift that is meaningful
and personal. It doesn’t have to cost a lot. Or, use words instead of an expensive gift to
let people know how important they are to you. Make a telephone call or write a note and
share your feelings. (Source: www.webmd.com/stress-management)
New Year’s Eve Worship Experience
Our annual New Years’ Eve Worship Experience will be Sunday evening, December 31,
at 5:30 pm here at the OUC. This worship experience will include Holy Communion and
the music ministry of “Heaven’s Song,” an Adventist musical group from Maryland.
Women’s Ministries
Our OUC Women’s Ministries’ “Secret Sister Revelation Party” will be Sunday, December
3, at 2:00 pm in the multi-purpose rooms. All participating ladies are kindly asked to be in
attendance. Additionally, our Women’s Ministries Department will go “Christmas
Caroling” on Sabbath, December 16, immediately following the Divine Worship Experience
in an area Nursing Home. All are invited to join in this holiday ministry event. Lap
blankets are needed to complete the gift baskets that will be given to the nursing home
residents. Donated blankets are now being accepted in the church office.
Disabilities Ministries
Our Disabilities Ministries Team is requesting donations of gloves, hats, scarves, and
hygienic items to be given to the homeless community during the holiday season.
Donations will be accepted in the church office through November 30, as the items will be
distributed on December 1. For more information, please see Marlene Hudson.
Prayer Ministries
Come and join our “Families in Prayer” Initiative to pray for our children and families each
Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Mother’s/Family Room South. Also, if
you are in need of special prayer, Prayer Ministries’ Team Members will meet you
immediately following the Divine Worship Experience in the Kindergarten Room to pray
with you. Kindly be reminded that sign up sheets for the “24 Hour Prayer Chain” Initiative
are available in the church foyer.
this Thursday, November 30, at 6:00 pm here at the OUC. This confidential support group
is led by experienced clinicians, Cliff and Freddie Harris.
