lockportlegend.com NEWS the Lockport Legend | November 30, 2017 | 9 Reed School celebrates Family Literacy Week Not just for kids Submitted by Reed School Reed School kicked off Family Literacy Week on Nov. 13 with storyteller Chris Fascione who mesmerized students with his engaging stories and humorous wit. His message was simple: reading books and using your imagination can take you anywhere. The fun continued all week with Westernthemed school spirit days, including Hats Off to Our Favorite Author, Be a Super Reader/Super Hero Day, Slip Into a Good Book, Lasso a Good Book and Everyone at Reed School Reads Day. Throughout the week, students had an opportunity to visit the Book Fair as did parents during Family Literacy Night and Parent Teacher Conferences. On Nov. 16, staff hosted their annual Family Literacy Night. With a variety of stations to choose from, students, their parents, and siblings spent the night competing in Battle of the Books, taking photos in the photo corner, creating crafts, playing Book Bingo, searching the building for Scavenger Hunt clues, and taking part in a Book Walk. With more than 100 families having attended the event, Reed School’s Family Literacy Night Committee is eager to begin planning for next year. Photos submitted Several events for adults coming to Lockport Township Park District Staff Report The Lockport Township Park District is to offer Young Timers Club, Adult Spanish and Adult Tap Class in the coming weeks. Young Timers Club is open to all seniors ages 50 and older, and is to be held Jan. 16 from noon-2 p.m. Attendees will be welcome to a buffet followed by Bingo and socialization. Participants are to use their own money to play Bingo. The prices for Bingo are $.05 per card per game and $.10 per card for coverall. The fee to register for the club is $8 if pre-registering and $12 if paying at the door. Adults ages 55 and older can also participate in the Adult Spanish Class that is to be held on Wednesdays from Jan. 17- Feb. 21 at the Gladys Fox Museum, 231 E. 9th St. in Lockport. Classes are to run from 12:30- 3 p.m. Attendees are to learn Spanish conversation, grammar and phonetics in a relaxed environment. Fees are $85 for residents and $90 for nonresidents. Ms. Priscilla’s School of Adult Tap is also to make its return on Thursdays from Jan. 11- May 3. The classes are to take place at Central Square, 222 E. 9th St. in Lockport, from 8-8:45 p.m. Anyone who is age 18 or older can participate. The class is designed to teach attendees the basics and the advanced steps to make them look like a polished dancer. Fees are $118 for residents and $128 for nonresidents.
