The Glennie School Ethos CHRISTIAN COMMENT Cricket is a funny game, you can bowl all day and beat the batsmen on many occasions but not get a wicket just for the next bowler to come and bowl an average delivery but gets the wicket. It is frustrating when you don't always get the reward you expected. The reality is that you have to move on and bowl the next ball. Moving on is an important step in life whether on the sporting field or in life situations. You can't safely move forward while looking in the rear mirror. As we mature we find it easier to walk away from certain circumstances and let it go through to the keeper. Someone wrote: “When we stop expecting life to be perfect, for people to be the best they can be, we are no longer holding ourselves down with things that are out of our control, we have grown and matured enough to appreciate both life and the people in our lives for what and who they are.” Paul also knew the importance of moving on and being focused Award, the Sue Edwards Trophy for the Senior Years recipient was Bianca Loughlin. He acknowledges his past and the way it influenced him but he knows that he needs to let go in order to go forward. Philippians 3:12-14 ESV Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies Ear Piercing Celebrations included an address by Mrs Elizabeth Gillam, Chair of Council, and The Right Reverend Cameron Venables, Bishop of the Western Region gave the blessing. Guest speaker at the Middle and Senior Years celebration was Professor Helen Chenery, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University. All three special guests took part in presenting prizes. In her address, Mrs Cohen talked about the importance of the core values of Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Courage and the role that these play in the lives of the Glennie community every day in all they do. She also launched the new Strategic Plan, which is made up of five pillars: Empowered Girls, Enriched Learning, Passionate Staff, Connected Community and Sustainable Operations. She introduced the Glennie theme for 2018: Be Like a Girl, in line with the School’s motto of Be All She Can Be. She encouraged the students to embrace being female and to see it as being an advantage, and not a barrier, in being anything they can be. She explained that to be like a girl means to be feminine yet strong, compassionate yet firm, nurturing yet challenging, gracious yet competitive, thoughtful yet ambitious, respectful yet respected, helpful yet independent Performances by Year 2 Ballet, G Minor, Junior Years String Ensemble, Junior Years Concert Band, G Major Choir, Glennie Junior Years girls, Glennie Choral Group, Glennie Singers and the Middle and Senior Years girls showcased the emerging talent of performing artists at Glennie.
