Prayer Meeting
Prayer Meeting will be held this Wednesday evening, December 13, at 7:00 pm, and
will be presented by our elementary school students from Oakwood Adventist Academy
(OAA). Prayer Meeting for the adults and university students will be in the sanctuary,
while Prayer Meeting for our youth will be in the multi-purpose rooms. All are
encouraged to attend. Remember, “much prayer, much power!”
Stewardship Corner
Somehow it’s become fashionable to believe that if we’re faithful to God, we’ll never
have to experience anything unpleasant or tragic; that God will somehow reward our
faithfulness with some kind of insurance policy. Yet, God’s people throughout history
have almost always had to endure different kinds of trials in their walk with the
Lord. The wise man in Matthew 7 did not, by building his house on a rock, prevent
the storm. But having a solid foundation saved him from losing everything that he
had. Continue to trust God by returning your Tithe and Combined Budget Offering
gifts regardless of the circumstances that may be surrounding you.
Oakwood Adventist Academy (OAA) Building Project
Please be mindful of our financial commitment to the OAA Building Project. Given
our church obligation of $3,000,000.00, the OUC makes a monthly payment to satisfy
this commitment. Let us all support this collective responsibility through our systematic
financial support, which is in addition to our normal Tithe and Combined Budget
Offering. All donations, large or small, are sincerely appreciated. Kindly mark on
your offering envelope, “OAA Building Fund.”
“Restoration 40” - Construction of Family Life Center
Our Family Life Center is over 75% completed! Praise the Lord! As we go into the
“home stretch” for construction completion, everyone is kindly asked to intensify
their giving efforts for our Family Life Center Building Project, which is inclusive of
our “Restoration 40” initiative. Each member is asked to reach a goal of $1,000.00
for this project through a one time gift, systematic monthly gifts, or the solicitation of
donations from family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and businesses (in
addition to your normal Tithe and Combined Budget Offering). If you have reached
your $1,000.00 goal, please feel free to give additional funds. Donations can be made
via your offering envelope and labeled, “Restoration 40.” Thank you.
Huntsville Area Retired Adventist Workers (HARAW) Meeting
The next HARAW Meeting will be tomorrow, December 10, at 1:30 pm in the multipurpose
rooms (south). All current and prospective members are invited to attend.
Welcome
On behalf of the Pastoral Staff, Officers, and Members of the Oakwood University Church
(OUC), we would like to extend a special welcome today to all of our visiting friends. We
hope you enjoy your worship experience with us, and please come again.
Handel’s Messiah Presentation
In harmony with the holiday season, “Handel’s Messiah” is being presented today,
December 9, during the Divine Worship Experience. Special thanks to Dr. Eurydice
Osterman, our guest soloists, choir members, Cathedral Chimes, musicians, Valley
Conservatory, and orchestra members for your service in music ministry today.
Family Life Ministries
Our “Divorce Care” and “Grief Share” Support Groups will meet today, December 9,
from 5:00 to 6:30 pm in the Moseley Complex.
The OUC Family Ministries Department will present its third “Living in Love” Seminar
next Saturday night, December 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the multi-purpose rooms
(south). This seminar will be a panel discussion consisting of married couples that will
speak and share their experiences, marriage history, and relationships with their spouses.
All engaged and married couples are invited to attend. For more information, please
contact Dr. Belvia Matthews (belviamatthews@gmail.com).
Save the date!!! Our OUC Couples’ Ministry will be having a “Couples Marriage
Retreat” Weekend on October 12-14, 2018 entitled, “Courageous Hearts!” This retreat
will consist of a three-day, two-night program designed to restore communication and
rekindle affection in marriage. The pace and pressures of life place enormous strains on a
marriage, which often leave couples just “co-existing.” Married couples share the same
house and spilt the bills, but that’s about it. “Courageous Hearts” helps couples rebuild
vital connections in their marriage through clear communication and healthy ways of
resolving conflicts. The cost is $620.00 per couple (includes program, meals, and
lodging). For reservations, please call 706.368.6801, and for program information, please
see Nichole Taylor.
Children’s Ministries’ Presentation - “Angels Aware”
Inclusive of the normal Divine Worship Experience, our OUC Children’s Ministries’
Department will present “Angels Aware” next Sabbath, December 16. Please plan to be
present for this special Worship Experience.
Square Up with God Month
The month of December has been designated as “Square Up with God” month. We
(church members, students, and visitors) are all called to “square up” with God in our
Christian Stewardship. Let’s “square up” in our Time - Church attendance, Talents -
Church service, and Treasury - Church giving (Tithe and Combined Budget). Remember,
“you can’t beat God giving no matter how you try.”
Church Board Meeting
Church Board Meeting will be held this Monday evening, December 11, at 6:00 pm. All
church board members are kindly asked to be in attendance.
at 5:30 pm here at the OUC. This worship experience will include Holy Communion and
the music ministry of “Heaven’s Song,” an Adventist musical group from Maryland.
Communion Rehearsal for all Elders, Deacons, Deaconesses, Ushers, and Greeters will
take place on Saturday evening, December 30, at 5:30 pm.
Women’s Ministries
Our OUC Women’s Ministries Department will go “Christmas Caroling” next Sabbath,
December 16, immediately following the Divine Worship Experience in an area Nursing
Home. All are invited to join in this holiday ministry event. Additionally, lap blankets will
be given to nursing home residents. If you are able to donate a lap blanket, please do so by
dropping of your blanket at the church. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
Prayer Ministries
Come and join our “Families in Prayer” Initiative to pray for our children and families each
Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Mother’s/Family Room South. Also, if
you’re in need of special prayer, Prayer Ministries’ Team Members will meet you today
immediately following the Divine Worship Experience in the Kindergarten Room to pray
with you. Kindly be reminded that sign up sheets for the “24 Hour Prayer Chain” Initiative
are also available in the church foyer.
coverage on Sabbath mornings. To join, and/or for more information, please contact
