Threatened Species: The following list includes all mammals which occur
in Palestine and are rated as Critically Endangered (CR), Endangered (EN)
or Vulnerable (VU) in the 2000 IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals. An
asterisk (*) indicates a change from the 1996 Red List to the 2000 Red List.
Critically Endangered:
o *Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monachus monachus) (Not listed in 1996
in Palestine).
Endangered:
o Arabian Oryx (Oryx leucoryx).
o Buxton's Jird (Meriones sacramenti) (Endemic to Palestine).
o Mount Hermon Field Mouse (Apodemus hermonensis) (Endemic to
Occupied Golan Heights).
o Nubian Ibex (Capra nubiana).
Vulnerable:
o Allenby's Gerbil (Gerbillus allenbyi) (Endemic to Palestine).
o Asiatic Wild Ass (Equus hemionus) (Re-introduced populations).
o *Barbary Sheep (Ammotragus lervia) (Not listed in 1996 in Palestine).
o *Dorcas Gazelle (Gazella dorcas) (Rated Lower Risk: Near Threatened
in the 1996 Red List).
o Dugong (Dugong dugon).
o *Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra) (Not listed in 1996).
o Geoffroy's Bat (Myotis emarginatus).
o Lesser Horseshoe Bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros).
o Long-fingered Bat (Myotis capaccinii).
o Mediterranean Horseshoe Bat (Rhinolophus euryale).
o Mehely's Horseshoe Bat (Rhinolophus mehelyi).
