in our chapter year, we have
much to be thankful for.
Our coffers are full! The
Thrift Shop is exceeding
expectations and Ring the Bell
is at 99% of our goal
- making it possible to fund
our philanthropic programs
and “transform the lives of
children and adults” in our
community.
You have welcomed 10 new
members into this amazing
group of women. I know
Assistance League will enrich
their lives.
I’m excited about plans for
our upcoming events – the
golf outing and library
gala. This promises to be a
fun and busy Spring.

WELCOME
All new members have completed their
orientation, along with process training
and sales training in the Thrift Shop.
Four new members and their big sisters
will be introduced at the December
chapter meeting. We welcome Cynthia
Warner, Ann Smith, Linda Lund and
Linda Stickrod.
There will be a prospective member
coffee in January so if you have a friend
to recommend, please let us know so she
can be invited.

The Website Committe is excited to host our National WebMaster, Ms. Cheri
Kassinger on January 5th at 10am She will demonstrate and teach us what
our new website is capable of doing.
I'm so pleased to report that Gretchen Schaeffer will be our Website Committe
Chair.
If you have ANY interest in learning something new....please contact Gretchen
for more information (402-578-6681 or gschaeffer1222@gmail.com) and plan
to attend this training session.
The committee will share the responsibility of maintaining our website...this is
not going to be a burden to fall on a single person. The more 'creative brains'
we can get involved...the more creative, flexible and versatile the website will
be. We want to keep it fresh and exciting.

New Friends will be
celebrating the November birthdays of our
friends in the memory care unit of Autumn
Leaves Memory Care at 4907 Williams
Drive at 2 pm Tuesday Dec 19th.
3rd Tuesday of each month
at 2pm.
Everyone is invited to join us at any
time....just come out and help to entertain
these folks. You'll love it!
Our November event at Autumn Leaves
was a huge success. We celebrated 7
Birthdays with polka dot balloons, home
made cookies, punch and music. Deborah
put her special touch on the music and we
all sang like crazy. Then Linda got her
boombox out and played some awesome
music that got us singing and dancing and
finally ended with the chicken dance.
Thanks Deborah & Linda!!! What fun that
was! It is so wonderful to see so many
residents and caregivers singing, clapping
and laughing. We also visit with the
residents and so enjoy them. What a
wonderful experience. Thanks so much
Autumn Leaves and Dorothy Weeks for
having us! Dorothy, you are a very special
person.
Assisting me were: Deborah Lepeard,
Linda Meehan, Duff Bourgeous, Gail
Greenley, Sharon Bartleson, Celeste Frost,
Candy Prater and Sharon Wright. Thank
you all so much. I couldn't do it without you.
We WILL have the December event on
Tuesday the 19th at 2:00 pm. Be there
about 1:45 and wear you name tags. If
possible could you let met know if you
will be able to come. I know it really
close to Christmas.

NEW FRIENDS: chairman, Karen
Ellsworth, reported that the November New
Friends at Autumn Leaves was a huge
success. They celebrated seven birthdays
with polka dot balloons, homemade cookies,
punch and music.
Deborah Lepeard was awesome with the
singing, and Linda Meehan brought out her
boombox that resulted in more singing and
dancing, and finally ended with the chicken
dance, which was enjoyed by the residents,
the caregivers, and our volunteers.
Nine ALGA volunteers had a great time
visiting and having fellowship with the
residents of that facility. Karen reports that
there will be a December 19 meeting at
2:00, and asks that volunteers be there at
1:45 and wear their name badges. Please
let her know if you will be able to come to
this last meeting of this year. She thanks
her committee for their participation and for
being an AWESOME TEAM!

seniors and foster children "aging out" of the
system.
The difficulty in providing funds for technical
or trade school scholarships was discussed,
but it was decided that we will continue to
try to reach this segment of graduating
seniors.
The committee requested that a flyer be
produced that would show how much
Assistance League supports our scholarship
programs, and that would be available to all
the schools to encourage seniors to apply
for assistance. It was decided that we would
send as soon as possible invitations to our
December holiday meeting to our five
scholarship recipients and some other
invited guests, where we present the
students with an additional holiday donation
toward school expenses.

SCHOLARSHIP: Donna Provence,
chairman, reports that they met at chairman
Donna Provence's home on December 1,
2017, and discussed plans for the year.
Among things discussed were expanding
scholarships to both Jarrell and Florence
I.S.D. eligible graduating seniors, and

AlgaThriftShop
Blow the trumpets, clang the
cymbals! November at the Shop was
AMAZING, from the early days when Winter
Wonderland was introduced. $3000 made
the night of our member and guests
evening. We also had a $1700 successful
Black Friday day, enjoyed by many. So by
the end of the month, we totaled $36,854!!
That is astounding and outstanding, so
thanks everyone who worked so hard or
shopped so hard to make it a great month.
We continue to recommend (rather
than require)ALL MEMBERS to
contribute some assistance to the Shop, be
it working on the sales floor or working in
the back processing. Bev Sutton does a
great and difficult job trying to be sure shifts
are properly covered. Remember once
trained in processing, you can just drop in
any time, and work only as much as you
have time for. Or there are other functions
the manager would like to delegate, like
some maintenance, dusting weekly, trash
detail, working on eblasts, coordinating
donation deliveries … you know, all the fun
stuff! But it all is necessary. Please find
where your time and talents fit and bring
needed assistance to the members who are
working “overtime”! .
Our newly rented off-site storage has
started to make our back room/dungeon
look better. Linda Hansen has obtained a
donation of new, attached lid tubs from
WalMart which we will use for easy
stacking. Off-seasonal items, linens, shoes
and clothes will be the majority of items
stored, along with furniture when no room to
display on the Shop floor. Is there someone
who would take over “management” of that
site?
And now for the important reminder
for ALL MEMBERS: Sometimes we are
aware of donated items never making it to
the floor. In other words, items are being
removed without payment or manager
approval. As we all know, we can lose our
Chapter standing if a member takes any
item meant for sale, and bought before the
item has been available to the public on the
Shop sales floor for one hour. Also please,
if you bring in an item for decoration, or take
a donation that we can use in the Shop or
for hospitality events, do mark it clearly and
permanently with a “not for sale” sign along
with your name or department so something
doesn’t get sold in error.
